"...like a polite collective orgasm."
Well that's one way to describe the hush before an artist begins a concert. ?
This book was so charming. I loved basically all the characters, even the vapid and self-involved ones. I rooted for Bee through the whole book and loved seeing an intelligent and quirky mother raising her daughter to be intelligent and quirky. The theme of motherhood and selfishness was refreshing and honest. Bernadette was unapologetic in her personality and I couldn't have admired her character more for it. Highly recommend!
The artistry in this #graphicnovel was stunning and the storyline was fast paced and kept you interested. Some of the bloody fight scenes put the graphic in graphic novel and I wouldn't recommend for sensitive readers and the plot was a little confusing a couple times but overall it kept me engaged. #Booked2019

I recently ended up in the hospital for a 10 day stay and then on home rest for 2 weeks and decided that was the perfect time for a re-read of one of my favorite trilogies. It was the perfect decision and comforted me while healing. I loved falling in love with Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont all over again.
What are your comfort reads or favorite series to re-read?
This book was hilarious. Full of funny nuggets of wisdom from a father that while at times is brusque and an oddity, really loves his kids even when they baffle him. I highly recommend listening to this one!

Jo says "Hey ma! Whatchoo reading. My book doesn't have enough pictures!" ? We're not quite to solo reading but I can't wait for those days to come!
Right out of the gate, Sanders's book was on a whole other level compared to the other's I've read so far (with the exception of Warren) when it comes to plan making and political intelligence. This also showcases that Bernie is a humble guy, who would rather see real change than get credit, in how he worked with HC after the loss of the 2016 primaries and how he works across the aisle wit Republicans.

This book was phenomenal. My first of Woodson's but definitely not my last. Her writing is so lyrical and her characters so diverse emotionally, I flew through this book and ate up every word. Highly recommend.

This book was SO fun to listen to. Some of the chapters were better than others and I found Karen's humor a bit more up my alley but there were some really valuable points in this, told in a funny, self deprecating, feminist way. I had never heard of their podcast and am not a fan of true crime so I probably won't be listening to that but this autobiographical book was right up my alley.

A book by two female authors
This was one of my favorite books of the year so far. As an introvert, I've felt misplaced or like I didn't fit well and this really helped me see the traits I have as a strength. It also had a wonderful section on relationships with extroverts that I made my husband listen to that was very enlightening. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to connect more closely with themselves or introverted loved ones in their lives. Truly fascinating.
I was not as big of a fan of the second in this duology. I felt it was pretty inconsistent and plot holey, and I ended up not really rooting for some of the "good guys" by the end, due to their questionable moral ambiguity. But I loved Emika and the world was still cool so I'm glad I finished it.
This book was an interesting premise and I liked the high tech fantastical world, reminiscent of Ender's Game and Ready Player One, this had its own flair. I didn't see the twist towards the end and immediately jumped into the second of this duology.

A book revolving around a puzzle or game
I haven't read Ephron before but I really liked her spicy, irreverent humor. BUT overall I was not a fan of the characters in this book. I didn't root for the love interests and was pretty apathetic about the ending, but I still enjoyed the entertainment factor and Jewish recipes sprinkled in.
This book was beautiful to listen to. Part lyrics and poetry, part narration, this book was a perspective you don't see often; that of two black teenage boys who love baseball, jazz, and are trying to figure out the secrets of girls before prom. Highly recommend

Genrebusting
I was so sad I didn't love this book with all the hype that it received. I'm convinced it was the pretty cover that fooled some into believing this book was more solid than it was. My favorite part was the youngest brother's story, Simon, and the rest of the book made it difficult to keep my interest.

A book gifted to you
Sparks is one of my Safe Havens (get it? ba dum tiss) and his books never fail to interest me and make me satisfied at the ending. Another solid one.
This book was absolutely enchanting. I loved all the characters, but especially Josey. I really liked the magical quality infused into this book that was so subtle and the themes of sisterhood and learning to love yourself and stand on your own. I also did not see the ending coming. Recommend for sure 👍👍

A book with pop, sugar, or challenge in the title
This book was odd, as many from Scandinavia seem to be. The humor was there, though dry and hard to miss but the real gem of this book was the relationship of the grandmother and the granddaughter and the juxtaposition of their experiences and priorities at opposite ends of each other. Short, and a bit boring for being so short but it was alright.

This book WRECKED me. I read Ove last year and went in expecting the same and was suprised to find myself in a completely different kind of story than I was expecting. But his ability to write characters that are so flawed and relatable was exactly the same. A little slow to start, but then it picked up and I couldn't get enough of the story. He even made me care about the hockey parts! Now that's talented writing.
I had the impression that since Mayor Pete was a millennial, military serving, openly gay person that he would have strong stances on some of the policies which make up a large part of our country today. And maybe be does, but I wouldn't know it from reading this book. While incredibly educated and eloquent, there was little policy or actions spoken of on what he would do to drive our country forward. I still admire him fully and am glad I read it
This book was incredible to listen to. I had no idea Malala was just a child when shot in the face and that she was shot because she had already become a voice and champion in her nation for her fight for girls and their education. For anyone like me who is mostly ignorant of the religion of Islam and the strife in the Middle East, this is an important read. Some parts were a bit slow but overall so good. #Booked2019

I am ashamed to say I had this book on my shelf for a couple years and wasn't super in a hurry to read it, since bible stories aren't my grab, but THIS BOOK. What a wonderful story of the camaraderie and strength of women, of girls who become mothers and midwives and aunts and champions for each other. I loved this perspective of Dinah's story and am so glad I finally read it.

Finally reading Beartown and the mother in this speaks to my soul so much, I've teared up just from the weird feeling of being understood so well.
Only three pages in and I found the title. One of my favorite things! Also, I can already tell I'm going to love this book.
As beautiful and ethereal as I remember from the first time I read it a year ago. #pop19 #popsugar2019 #popsugarreadingchallenge
A re-read of your favorite book
"I'll just relax in my hammock by myself and read," said no mother of toddlers ever.
#SorryNotSorry for the small photo dump from this book the last few days. An introspective look into our society when it comes to racism, pop music, toxic masculinity, intersectionality, and the entertainment industry from poet and musician Kyle Tran Myhre. Some parts got bogged down in technicality but the message was solid.

This short novel was gorgeous. It was only 3.5 hours on audio and left me wanting more of this beautiful, spoken lyrical writing told from the perspective of 15 year old Xiomara writing in her journal about her experiences growing up in conservative household with immigrant parents and stretching her wings to fly. Highly recommend.

"Language impacts thought; thought impacts action."
It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be to pick my #top6reads of the year, though I wavered on a couple. It surprises me that two were poetry and one a graphic novel, two types of books I don't think I really picked up before Litsy and reading challenges. Thanks for broadening my horizons guys ❤📚
@Cinfhen
This followed along pretty much like a standard mystery. I guessed early on who the killer was. I really enjoyed the premise of someone witnessing another person's life in snippets passing by on the train during their commute. But all the characters were pretty shallow and unlikeable. The only one I really felt for was Rachel. Overall I'd recommend for a quick weekend mystery read. #pop19 #popsugar2019
A book that has over a million reviews on GR
I really liked the premise of this novel, on Rose's ninth birthday she receives the ability to taste people's feelings through the food they cook, but the execution and writing and plot development ranged from bizarre to non-existent. Not my least favorite book ever, a small amount of memorable lines, but I was confused and dissatisfied after it was over.

Food or Beverage on the Cover
This book was wholly unexpected, but in such a great way. I went into this thinking it was going to be light and fluffy (and it totally was!) but it also tackled tough topics and had some deep themes interspersed with heartwarming love. Not much in common with the original but still holds the message of "Don't judge a person on appearance" and "It's ok the be different." #pop19 #popsugar2019 #popsugarreadingchallenge
A Retelling of a Classic
This was my first of Alyssa Cole's and I really liked it! She had smart, witty writing that was the right amount of steamy. I'll definitely be checking out more of hers! #romantsy #pop19 #popsugar2019 #popsugarreadingchallenge Two Books That Share the Same Title (2)
Kingsolver is a masterful storyteller and just so amazing at narrating her own books. I love her smooth, honeyed voice building up these characters that become a little bit real. This one was a bit too long, and Prodigal Summer still holds the spot for my favorite of hers, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this book.
