Eleanor and Park | Rainbow Rowell

I adored this book. The dynamic between Eleanor and Park was so adorable, I wanted to throw up at times but obviously in a good way.
However, I wish I had a *little* more closure at the end. What happened with Eleanor‘s family? And I wish there was a little more justice involved for the way richie treated them all. I also was not a fan of the ending. It left me heart broken and disappointed.
In all though the book was definitely a memorable read.

My full review is on my goodreads mostly because there‘s so much to say about this book and there‘s no way I can condense it to this app. Best book I‘ve read in a good while, I absolutely loved every second of it.

First: I will gladly be Nikolai‘s queen.
There were times I wanted to rip pages out of frustration since I couldn‘t do Alina‘s tether power into the book to bitch slap someone.
Have I mentioned my undying love for Nikolai? I don‘t think I‘ve ever loved a support character more than the main character. UGH this series destroyed me, I need more to feed the merzost that is my soul. #finished

VelvetSpade And Nikolai gets his own series!! Coming Feb 2019! I need this now 😅😅 6y

The Kane Chronicles were just.. weird to me. Didn‘t quite fit Riordan‘s style with any of his other series. Sadie and Carter, the main characters, also seemed selfish and dangerously emotional at times. Also, the whole Walt/Anubis thing, wtf? Overall, still a decent series but not Riordan‘s best. #finished

The language, the emotion, the agony and grittiness of kids killing kids was so powerful it‘s still giving me goosebumps now. This happens, and it happens far too much in a country that‘s supposed to support life. This is where it SHOULD end. It‘s not going to, though, unless we listen to the kids who went through this and finally realize, this is a problem. #finished

MelissaS This has been on my TBR for a while. I haven‘t started it because I‘m afraid it will be heartbreaking. This is happening far far too often and I‘m afraid we will become desensitized to the tragedy. 6y
Pluralconstant @MelissaS It is heart wrenching but it puts a different perspective on mass shootings. It really puts you in the shoes of the victims, and I think it‘s important for people to realize the immense damage these mass shootings are doing to people - including kids! 6y

I had a pre-conceived notion this book would be a smart, witty teenage love story. What I got instead was run-on sentences, 4th grade level vocabulary, countless number of characters to keep track of, and some events that made absolutely no clue.
I wanted to believe the simplicity was on purpose. But if your main characters are supposed to be geniuses, don‘t have them ramble on like a 2 year old telling a story. (Full review on goodreads)

MrsSpencer Oh don‘t you hate that? Then it feels like you can‘t stop reading..because you have already started... makes me crazy! 6y

This is the last Riordan book I‘ve yet to read. Until he comes out with more, that is.

GingerAntics Love Rick Riordan!!! 6y

GingerAntics Oh I totally agree. I love mythology of all sorts. I love his Greek mythology. I‘ve only read the very beginning of his Egyptian mythology. I can‘t wait to see if he goes to Norse next or Celtic, or what. All I know, is it will be amazing!!! 6y

Boy oh boy oh boy. I don‘t know what to say right now. The Throne of Fire | Rick Riordan
post image
Mehso-so

Compared to Riordan‘s other stories, the narrators (Sadie and Carter) have a tendency to repeat themselves at times. It‘s not exactly bad, but it does get my attention and it‘s one of those little annoying habits some authors get into. Also feels like Game of Thrones, don‘t like any characters because you‘re going to hate what happens. Still was a decent read, and part of me is excited to move onto the last book, and see how this plays out.

Currently on the 2nd book of the Kane Chronicles. I have read everything else by Rick Riordan (except for the short cross-over stories), and have loved everything so far, but something about this trilogy doesn‘t seem to have the same power as his other series. Riordan does an amazing job with mythology though, that‘s for sure.

The Night Circus | Erin Morgenstern
Mehso-so

Some parts of the book had me entranced, especially when they would introduce a new tent and the creativity behind it, scenes that were truly new to me, not exactly borrowed from other stories or movies, but true original ideas.
Other parts were needlessly confusing, and though I understand the author‘s reasons for not making the chapters exactly linear, it still bothered me to jump around a timeline.
Overall, it was a decent book.

I was disappointed, this didn‘t have the magical feel of being in the wizardry world. Nothing stood out to me, and everything seemed to just happen, eliciting no response from the audience. It felt like some characters were thrown in there only to appease the original Harry Potter fans, but it was almost cheesy. The plot was merely “okay”, didn‘t quite connect to any characters, overall giving it a score of 3.

Odanak Thanks for the honesty 6y

This is a story of love that I love. I‘m not one for romantic novels, but this is beyond the shallow level of love with no true meaning. This is real, this made me feel the heartache and joy and despair as Madeline. The humor complemented and fit the book so well, as did every other emotion that Nicola Yoon poured into these pages. It simply made sense.
