BookmarkTavern So I wasn‘t sure, but Rincemangle reminded me really strongly of a story in one of the previous collections. Is there another one about the gnomes? Also, I really love his time travel short stories. Which may be somewhat related to Night Watch being one of my favorite Discworld books. 😅 I also really loved the fire opal story. It felt perfect for the audiobook. 5mo

This was a low pick for me. I missed the more sophisticated satire of the Discworld books, but I think these stories would be very enjoyable for a younger audience. I loved the illustrations -- they were the best part!

A charming collection of some of Pratchett‘s early short stories.

Delightful to listen to! Varying from average Pratchett (which is still good!) to really great, we see the beginnings of Pratchett‘s wit and imagination! Gnomes in a department store, a Wild Welsh West heist, a time traveling TV, and a revolutionary ant! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

This was my first Terry Pratchett book and it was an excellent first read on audio! The sound effects that were added in throughout all the short stories was a fun addition! Overall, excellent read! Loved it. Would totally reread it and recommend it to others.

I‘ve been out of the game for a bit but finally got my reading groove back. Here‘s a preview of my fall TBR. It‘s only the books that I currently have in print. Am I being overly ambitious? Probably. Am I still gonna try for it? You bet. Am I gonna have fun doing it? We‘ll see how it goes lol - I mean HECK YES BRING IT ON!

This is a collection of short stories (14 total) that Pratchett wrote when he was young. It showcases his imagination. There is a whimsical quality to these stories however they are not on par with his later works. That said, it is a fun read that myself and my grandkids enjoyed. I listened to the audio book and felt the narrator added to the stories. I loved the sound affects! 3.5 ⭐

The Witch‘s Vacuum Cleaner is a collection of early short stories written when he was a junior reporter. He admitted he was not that great at short stories & these lacked some of the humor & wit he later developed. But I did enjoy seeing the origins for some of his later works. These stories also demonstrate that he had one of the best imaginations of any author.

A quick book, but overall, it was just okay.

Another #bookspin bingo book!

Scochrane26 I want to eventually read some of his books. I‘ve only read Good Omens but loved the humor. 4y

TheAromaofBooks Sometimes it's fun to read a favorite author's earlier works just to see how his/her style changed over time. I read a bunch of PG Wodehouse's earliest books last year & while they lack a lot, you can still see the origins of his trademark humor. 4y

A great collection of short stories by Pratchett. The library has it in YA but I think it's more middle grade.

RealLifeReading @DiruVamp I haven‘t read this one myself so I can‘t say for sure but Pratchett‘s books are so awesome that starting anywhere should be perfectly fine. May I suggest my absolute favourite - 6y
DiruVamp @RealLifeReading awesome - just added Mort to my TBR thank you! His bibliography is so overwhelming and I know they‘re all connected in their respective series I wasn‘t sure where to start! 6y
RealLifeReading It‘s tricky with such a huge collection. You could also start with the very first book, The Colour of Magic. I‘ve actually only read some of his books - I just looked at Wikipedia and I think I‘ve read maybe just a quarter! So far my faves have all involved Death like Mort and Hogfather. Anyway happy exploring! You can‘t really go wrong just dipping your feet in anywhere in Discworld! 6y

A collection of early short stories by Terry Pratchett that he wrote when he was a junior reporter & were published weekly in his local newspaper. All are wonderfully narrated in this collection, and although not as layered as his later Discworld series, they are a lot of fun for readers of all ages. Highly recommend if you enjoy things like Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman & if you haven't read that check them both out and enjoy.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @josie281 Yes, I snagged it when it was available on http://www.audiobooksync.com/ for free the other week. Was fun to listen to a silly story or two as I ran errands the last few days. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Laura317 Yes, It is apparently one of two they released with "children's stories"....so I'll have to go looking for the other one too now. 7y
Daisey I have a road trip next week and I think this might need to go in the audiobook rotation. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Daisey His are all pretty great. I'm working my way through his Tiffany Aching Series now on audio. It starts with Wee Free Men and is wonderful! Fun, light-hearted, some deeper second thoughts, and some pretty great side characters who are CHARACTERS. The wee free men prefers to pict-sies, small blue kilted tattooed warriors who like to drink and fight, and Tiffany is a young girl just figuring out she might be a witch. (edited) 7y

Loving this hilarious collection of stories. Always wanted to start the Discworld Series and now I think I definitely should. Pratchett's writing style reminds me so much of Neil Gaiman's which makes sense because I loved their collaboration on Good Omens.

If you like audiobooks and are not using AudiobookSYNC I have to ask, WHY NOT? During the summer they give away two free audiobooks each week. It is usually a YA title and a classic, but not always. This weeks selection is awesome. You do have to have the Overdrive app, but that is also free.

Check it out at www.audiobooksync.com

Maybe this fun collection of stories written by Sir Terry when he was 17 for his local newspaper will get me out of a funk. This is the 2nd such collection (vol 1 was Dragons at Crumbling Castle) and it's nice to see an intro from him - so he knew this would be published and even tweaked a few things.
The title alone is worth the price of admission 😁
