101 Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die
101 Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die | Steven Jay Schneider
11 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
As any horror fan knows, the genre isn't limited to ghouls, blood, and gore, but is as broad as cinema itself. Discover the haunting pull of "the other side" in movies like The Sixth Sense, Cat People, Poltergeist and Don't Look Now. Brave the perils of nature in Jaws, The Birds, and Alien. Learn that people aren't always as they seem, as in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Peeping Tom, Psycho, and The Shining. Confront evil in human form--The Last House on the Left, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Friday the 13th--and in its purer distillation in Rosemary's Baby, The Omen and The Exorcist.101 Horror Films You Must See Before You Die gives you a thorough appreciation of the genre, because it approaches the subject chronologically. You'll move through gothic classics like James Whale's The Old Dark House (1932) and Terence Fisher's Dracula (1958), to zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead (1978) and 28 Days Later (2002). All the sub-genres are covered too, from Eyes Without a Face (mad scientist), The Howling (werewolf), Nightmare on Elm Street (slasher), to The Silence of the Lambs (serial killer). And you'll learn that it's not just American teenagers who are horror-film fodder. There are classic horror films from Japan (Onibaba), Russia(Vij), Italy (Suspiria), France (Les Diaboliques), Belgium (Man Bites Dog), Germany (M), and the Netherlands (The Vanishing). Immerse yourself in the most compelling of movie genres. Prepare to be possessed--and whatever you do, don't answer the phone...

Made a second bingo card. It's unlikely I'll make it through all these, but hoping to get a couple more bingos. Added some documentaries... I seem to be really into those these days. I think I've probably watched all the true crime ones on Netflix already. 🤣

Well, I managed to get one bingo. I've actually found myself watching a lot of shows and movies not on my card. I knew I should have made a second card. Maybe I still will for the second half. 🤔

Finally finished making my bingo card for my #watchlist. I decided to subscribe to Peacock, so there's a chance I'll probably end up making a second card. They actually have a pretty decent horror selection.

Here's just the start of my watch list for #Scarathlon. We no longer have YouTubeTV, so I'm stuck with just streaming for now. Using some free streaming apps and the few we still pay for.

I'll probably end up making a bingo card this weekend.

LiseWorks Yeah, most of the stuff I watch this timenofnyear is on Netflix, which we don't have anymore. So we rely on satellite, and the strike from writers made everything late. 7mo
Reggie Tubi is free and has a great selection of horror movies. And even on just plain old Yourube I think you can watch Stephen King‘s 6 hr The Stand miniseries and It and Needful Things. 7mo

I did not get around to reading Henry's book, so I won't be able to join the #HappyHorror #FearfulFall discussion, but I thought I would share the 10 best horror movies I have watched this year. Not all of these are '22 releases, although nearly half of them are, but this has been a banner year for horror films. Hon. mentions: Barbarian, Black Phone, Scream 5.

Bookzombie I really liked X, so glad to see Pearl will be good too. I need to check out some of the others you have here. 2y
vivastory @Bookzombie Pearl is as good if not even slightly better than X. You'll have to let me know what you think when you see it! 2y
Reggie I‘m muy sad I haven‘t seen half of these. 2y

vivastory @Reggie That means you have good movies to look forward to! 2y
BarbaraBB We‘ll miss you in the discussion but you didn‘t miss much by not reading the book to be honest! 2y
vivastory @BarbaraBB That seems to be the consensus! 2y
Reggie Have you ever seen The Terrifier. It‘s a movie with a killer clown dressed in black and white. It‘s gory and I liked it. I went to see Terrifier 2 tonight and it‘s is Gory times infinity. Lol it‘s fever dream crazy with some really bad acting and yet I loved it. 1y
vivastory @Reggie I know the movies you're talking about but I've not seen them. I've heard mixed things but I do plan on checking them out one day! 1y

Day 5 - #Horror #ChillingPhotoChallenge #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter - 1 point

Watch these horror movies on Netflix:
1. Cult of Chucky
2. The Ritual
3. Scream 2
4. The Conjuring
5. The Green Room
6. The Sixth Sense
7. The Apostle
8. The Witch

Billypar I haven't seen half of these, but I'm a big fan of #s 4 and 8. The Witch was especially terrifying. 5y
Scochrane26 I hate scary movies, but yay team! 5y
Kimberlone Green Room and The Witch are truly scary! 5y

EadieB @Billypar I just watched The Conjuring and what was scary about that movie is that they said it was a true story. 5y
Kimberlone Also I had to have my eyes closed for a good portion of Apostle! 5y
EadieB @Scochrane26 I have to watch them in the daylight and with someone else in the room with me. 5y
EadieB @Kimberlone Oh my! That sounds scary! 5y
EadieB @Kimberlone I'll have to check them out! 5y
Kimberlone @EadieB honestly it‘s the gore that gets me more than the scares. That movie is extremely visceral and gory. 5y
EadieB @Kimberlone I can read about gore as I skim most of it but I have a hard time watching gore in the movies or on TV. 5y
Ddzmini I have a “What‘s Uppppp” tattoo on my arm 🤣🤣🤣 5y
EadieB @Ddzmini Funny! 5y

24 out of 101 is not a great record for me, but it gives me something to aspire to.
