Wayside School Is Falling Down
Wayside School Is Falling Down | Louis Sachar

More fun inThe Wacky World ofWayside School"Watch closely," said Mrs. Jewls. "You can learn much faster using a computer instead of paper and pencil." Then she pushed the new computer out the window The children all watched it fall thirty floors and smash against the sidewalk. "See?" said Mrs. Jewls. "That's gravity! I've been trying to teach you about gravity, but the computer showed you a lot quicker!"That's the way things happen at Wayside School. There are 29 kids in Mrs. Jewls's class and this book is about all of them. There is Todd, who got in trouble every day ... until he got a magic dog; Paul, whose life was saved by Leslie's pigtails; Ron, who dared to try the cafeteria's Mushroom Surprise and all the others who help turn a day at Wayside School into one madcap adventure after another. But, after the things that happened in Sideways Stories from Wayside School, what would you expect? The extraordinary thirty-story school and its zany inhabitants are back in the long-awaited sequel to the classic SIDEWAYS STORIES FROM WAYSIDE SCHOOL, one of the most popular Camelot books ever. Denise Williams is on my book podcast this week chatting with me about WAYSIDE SCHOOL IS FALLING DOWN and the whole thing is a total delight! Listen to hear conversations about everything from representation and Book Tok to bathroom humor and existential dread in kid lit. 🚌 Listen at the link in my bio!

BookmarkTavern I remember this book! I can‘t wait to listen to the episode! (edited) 2y

#BookspinBingo
So I read the first book in this series to my students almost every year, but have never read the remaining books in the series until now. This one is just as good as the first.
This year I also discovered a youtube series based on the books, and now understand the cow references in the youtube series.

Book #1 done! I loved reading this series when I was a kid, and found that a new book came out in 202. I am working my way to reading up to this new one.
Overall this was just as enjoyable as the first book, and kept moving with various stories. My favorite was probably Mrs. Zarves or the three Erics chapters.
Every kids should read this series.

Another great volume in the Wayside School series! The backwards story was a favorite, as well as The Mean Mrs. Jewls. I'm still really sorry I passed these up as a kid!

Isn't that the truth, especially when you really are one of the weirdos. Best moral so far... nobody can be weird because we're all a little bit weird. 💜

Smangela Oh man. I just looked at my copies of these last night. I think February is going to be a Middle Grade reads month for me :) 6y
IamIamIam @Smangela DO IT!!! I like to buy middle grades as "research" for my kids... ??? Plus our book fair is in March! I have to unload before I buy more! LOL 6y

1. The tagged book, I haven't read since I was a child and want to read again. I remember it in a nostalgic way. I recall there is more then one book.
2. There is actually a bunch I really love. So it is hard to decide.. The Princess Bride of course and Batteries not included. A tie
3. Um 90s country was my childhood. So old Reba and Brooks and Dunn etc.
4. Hmm... @JoRead maybe...

With a three month old, a funeral and on-call, I would call this a success for the #24in48 and the #throwbackreadathon. I was able to read quite a few favorites from my childhood. I wish I would have had a little bit more time because there are so many more I would like to revisit.

monalyisha Me too! There‘s never enough time! Maybe we‘ll do another throwback event sometime soon. (We do have a completely different reading event in the works - theme & date TBA! Hope you‘ll join us!) 7y
theshrinkette You still participated and managed to carve out some reading time amidst the chaos, so cheers to you! 🎉 7y

"Wayside School is falling down,
Falling down, falling down.
Wayside School is falling down,
My fair lady.

Kids go splat as they hit the ground,
Hit the ground, hit the ground.
Kids go splat as they hit the ground,
My fair lady."

Dark, yet humorous. The characters from Wayside never fail to entertain. #throwbackreadathon @Clwojick @monalyisha

Tonight's recommendation is Wayside School Is Falling Down (or any of the Wayside books really). I adored these strange stories when I was a kid. And the first time I saw Invader Zim the classroom and teacher reminded me of these books. I've felt not great lately and I'm currently watching Invader Zim with my daughter. So, that spawned this rec. #children'sbooks #waysideschool #wayside #strange #funreads #bookrecommendations

#FunFridayPhoto after remembering about these books during the "funny books" day in august's photo challenge, I swore I would get a copy for my son (and myself). I found all three last week at the free library haul. Score.
