So it seemed like a really slow start I wanted to dnf. Glad I didn't cause it did get better. Once I was actually invested in finding out what happened to Nel Abbot.

ElizabethBoa It was a like/ hate with her sister Jules like communication would have saved them both some heartbreak even with the "misunderstanding". I loved Lena and Nickie definitely my faves. Soo SPOILER the culprit is totally not who I was expecting it to be ? I Know obvious is Patrick Townsend, but I had my money on jealous vengeful Helen So totally mind blown there!! 1w

I just kept getting slapped with surprises during this book! Jules Abbott is called back to her childhood home after her estranged sister is found drowned. The Drowning Pool is a popular place for suicides but Nell believes it's a place to get rid of problematic women. Everyone's fighting their own psyche during this and nothing is what it seems.

TheRiehlDeal I heard mixed reviews on both of her books. Glad you liked it though! 😊 3mo
IamIamIam @TheRiehlDeal Thanks! I try not to get caught up in reviews before I've read it for myself but I did enjoy it a lot more than The Girl on the Train. I also really enjoy unlikable characters and this book has PLENTY! Lol 3mo

Definitely found some great gems at goodwill yesterday. I never walk out of there with less than 20 books. I did buy some this time that I already had but they were ones that I either really love (Cloud Atlas) or ones that I hear a lot of good things about but just haven‘t read yet (The Alice Network). I keep them to trade in at Little Free Libraries.

IvoryLunatic I‘ve been super disappointed with our LFLs here so far. Either they‘re not in use at all anymore or they have super old books in them. There‘s nothing wrong with old books but it just doesn‘t seem like people trade in books that are likely to be picked up by someone. 3mo

This book was a mixed bag for me. The strengths included: multiple narrators (loved reading the interpretation of events from varying perspectives); an interesting twist in family dynamics; and multigenerational murders. The challenges were: characters that were not relatable or sympathetic; meandering prose; and an unsatisfying ending. I thought her first book was much better, but, as mentioned, there were strengths in this story as well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

erzascarletbookgasm Her debut was so much better! This was a weak Pick for me. 3mo
Buechersuechtling Yes, in most points I agree with you. I am remember to also have thought the ending is a bit weak but I _loved_ all the women‘s stories in there. 3mo

This book was about a town set on a river where many women have drowned in the water, some voluntarily, some not. It was written from many different characters‘ perspectives, which was interesting but sometimes confusing. While it was enjoyable enough to read and kept me guessing at times, I was never truly invested in any of the characters and felt the end was loosely defined.

This was a good read but the ending was very loose. Fate of some of the characters was not explained. The ending was totally abrupt, Paula Hawkins one sudden day got tired and just finished the book in a hurry. With that said, I love the characters. The story is told from POV of nearly 12 characters each portraying their own thinking of the same plot. That was really interesting for me. Took some time to store in my memory who each character was.

A swift, engrossing thriller. I enjoyed this much more than the over-hyped Girl on the Train and appreciated how carefully the true story, as well as the several untrue versions, are teased out, a detail at a time, by the shifting narrators.

It started off a bit slow, but I thought it picked up as it went on. A bit confusing, with not only a lot of characters, but each chapter being told from someone else‘s viewpoint. The chapters are short, which helps it feel faster to read. In any case, I quite liked it in the end. A few twists, but not too many, mostly at the very end.

Paula Hawkins definitely outdid herself writing Into the Water! It makes her previous novel (The Girl on the train) look like child's play. I'm totally gobsmacked. The novel is so well written with so many intrigues and twists that you'll never see coming. The last time I raved about any novel this much was after I read Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl. Well written Paula 👍

I love a good mystery where I can‘t put it down and just immerse myself. And this book totally fit the bill. I loved the various characters and their different viewpoints. I love a big climactic ending, and felt that this was a little less climactic than I wanted. But otherwise it was a really solid book and a great story!

This was a really enjoyable audiobook! I always like listening to audiobooks with accented characters. It was a little bit hard to follow with the number of characters the author toggled back and forth between, but it gave you more perspectives about the same matter. I honestly didn't expect most of the twists and turns that appeared. Recommend :)

Super disappointed by this. This was a very shallow, very forced mystery with one-dimensional protagonists and the quintessence "all men are basterds, all women mean well but do harm". Also there were quite a few questionable choices by the audiobook narrators. #dontbelievethehype

This was between a so-so and a pick for me. The story was engaging enough for me to complete. It was atmospheric. It was a story told by many narrators which was confusing at times. I think listening to the different voices as an audiobook helped with sorting out who was doing what😬 #audiobook #audiowalking

Joanne1 I‘ve only read fairly ordinary reviews of this one especially compared to her first novel - which I loved - but maybe I should try it on audio. 7mo
Freespirit @Joanne1 I think the audio made it easy to understand. I don‘t think the plot was as good as her first novel. 7mo

I enjoyed this one. The deliciously sinister prologue dragged me right in, and while there was a large cast of characters, I liked the different POVs and learning what about them and what happened to them. The ending was predictable but overall satisfying in how is neatly tied things up. Several different narrators for this one made it really enjoyable!

Oh, I liked this one. Couldn‘t put it down. After I got used to it, I loved how the puzzle was set together.

One of the twists I identified quite from the beginning but for the solution of other I needed to follow the plot.

I loved the different perspectives (Nicky rules‼️). Not just those of the narrators but also how one thing/event can be interpreted differently by different people.

I‘m really impressed how the story is plotted and told.

The cover seems to fit perfectly.

As “Girl on a Train” was gripping I looked forward to this and was surprised I read so many mixed ratings.

There‘s many personnel in there and I am not sure if I‘m already able to distinguish them. Even though I like how it‘s read some female characters sound alike. So it‘s necessary to “always” be attentive.

Some might think witches and local superstition are used in a plot too often but so far I like it.

Accidentally found “Into the Water” as audiobook at my online library and now borrowed it since my vacation with my significant other is over and I have to fight the hangover this fact causes.
I‘m really sad and feel lonely.

“Girl on a Train” got me hooked – so I‘m curious.

Above you see the Ratatouille me and my significant other cooked today. It was my wish to have one-pot-food the day he leaves so I‘d have something to warm tomorrow.

rather_be_reading oh my yum!! 9mo
kspenmoll Looks delicious. Understand your sadness. 9mo
Buechersuechtling @rather_be_reading @kspenmoll Yes, it‘s really good. But strangely enough it‘s a meal we only cook when we‘re together. It‘s nothing I‘d prepare for myself – which is silly because the most difficult thing is to clean the bell peppers. I mean really, it‘s so easy that even I can‘t mess it up. 🤷🏽‍♀️ 9mo
Buechersuechtling @kspenmoll Thanks for your kind words. It‘s the typical fate of a long distance relationship. I know that. But every time we separate after having had more time together then 3 or 4 days it astonishes me how much more uncomplicated, easier to organise and lighter every day life is when you‘re two. 9mo

New in on my online library‘s wish list. So figures rising again.
#BookishGoal 45.

Looking forward to this audiobook – even if I still got 15 hours on „Das Lied der Nachtigall“. 😊 But I liked “Girl On The Train” a whole lot.

rretzler I didn‘t love this one like I loved The Girl on the Train, but it was still a good read. 9mo
Buechersuechtling @rretzler I read „Girl On The Train“ shortly before this one came out, so I can‘t count how many times I stood in the bookstore keeping myself from buying it. So I am a bit happy about my discipline and about that I accidentally found the audiobook at my library. 😊 9mo
rretzler That‘s great! I seldom have that kind of discipline! 9mo
Buechersuechtling @rretzler I really love books and reading but I am also sensible because I know myself and I know that most of the books I only read once. So afterwards I carry them to a public bookcase. Additionally, I bring to my mind how many books in my library I haven‘t read it yet and that also keeps me from buying books only because in that moment I want to read them or only because “everybody” is talking about them. 9mo
