An absolute favorite. It was a little bit of everything I want from a mystery book. So well done and so interesting. This book stuck with with me for weeks and I enjoyed every chapter. I found this before The Girl on The Train and would recommend this one first. #highlyrecommend #mystery #murder #murdermystery #mysteryrecommendation #pageturner

Nel Abbot is found dead in a river. Her relatives and detectives reveal secrets and crimes that surround the river. The old chief Patrick confesses to killing her and all is resolved. However it turns out his son killed her accidently. If you like books that are full of suspense, secrets, and plot twists then this is for you! This book uses the alternative first person view. The author labels the chapter and changes each characters tone and vocab

MissYaremcio Nicely done Grace! If it changes character's perspectives, it is most likely one of the third persons! 5/6 2y

I don‘t really get the negative reviews for this one. Yes, it‘s very different than The Girl on the Train, but I think it held its own. Lots of characters to keep track of, however, and most of them unlikeable. But it mostly came together at the end.

Wow! Paula Hawkins got me hooked again! It was confusing in the beginning because there are so many characters, however it all starts to connect mid way through!

The story revolves on a river where a number of women have been discovered dead at the bottom of the river, either by suicide or by accident. When a single mother was discovered dead at the bottom of the river, followed by a teenage daughter, it became the talk of the town. Their deaths cause havoc with the river and its history, bringing to life long-buried secrets.

jianina.pascual I haven‘t finished the entire book since I'm not really into thrillers but if you like thriller stories that talks about friendship and self-identity then I highly recommend this book to you! 2y

Sadly didn‘t connect with this one. I love Hawkins‘s literary voice, but the story‘s convoluted structure undercut the suspense and often left me more confused than enticed.

I‘ve had this book on my shelves for years thinking I read it along with my other girl, women, water mysteries. While organizing books I realized I had no documentation of this read - haha, a few pages in and I knew I‘d never gone here. This was like a jigsaw puzzle where the many characters are the edges and once those finally come together, fitting the center pieces became a bit of fun.

Unfortunately, this was as underwhelming as I was expecting. A whole bunch of unlikable characters doing predictable stuff.

I listened to the audio because I knew I‘d never make myself read my BOTM copy. Now I can‘t find my BOTM copy, which is also unfortunate, because I was looking forward to throwing it across the room after that dumb ending.

I was wary before beginning this book due to all the mixed reviews. However, I heard there was a lot of characters so I kept a scratch paper and pen next to me while I was reading, so that I could jot notes down. I feel it was necessary for all the characters so we could have a real “whodunit” mystery. Other than that, I thought it was a great story! 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Into The Water, an interesting book. From cover you feel the book as somewhat of a romance but the more you read you understand it's about a fatal murder taking place in a river. This book goes Into detail on how after the mother dies and her daughter must be under the care of her Aunt. I quite enjoyed how they talk about the death of her mother but also has a subplot that brings up mysterious clues on how things are tied together

I know that this got pretty mixed reviews when it came out, but I enjoyed it. Multiple perspectives, a place of mystery: do the women jump into the water, or is the water a place to get rid of troublesome women?

First a teenage girl dies in the lake, and now in the same lake, a single mother is found dead. Soon, secrets begin to surface.

Left behind is teenager Lena, who is left believing her mother committed suicide. But is that really the case? Or is something more sinister going on in this town?

There were easily over two dozen characters in this story, and it took me nearly three quarters of the book to sort them all out and remember who was who!

BookDragonNotWorm Same here! Way too many characters to keep track of with very little to help distinguish between them! 3y

One of the most intriguing ways that Paula writes this book is that each chapter is a vignette, or viewpoint, of one of the characters in the story. I love this but I will say throughout the whole book, there were so many different characters that this layout was difficult to follow at times. it seemed to climax with several different surprises that didn‘t seem all that necessary- One left unresolved. The final bang l I found to be confusing. 4/10

I'm culling my collection down to those that I need to read still, that I may/will read again, that I can't bear to part with because I love the author and have a collection (mostly). So these are the titles so far that are gone. Minus two books I've already given to my boss's kid (Lumberjanes vol 1- oh and she is now starting a book club with her little friends! 😍)

monkeygirlsmama It's always hard to part ways with book friends, but at least you know someone else can enjoy them and now there's more room on the shelves/stacks for new book inhabitants to reside. 🤓

That's super awesome about the coworker's daughter!!!
4y
Andrea4 @monkeygirlsmama I agree! I'm way happier if I can send them to people I know. Plus in truth, I feel selfish keeping books I know I won't re-read. 4y
Tamra I just did the same thing. Still, I could probably pare down more. 😏 4y

marleed I read Lovely Bones years ago. I can‘t account for my mood at the time, but the book absolutely freaked me out. So now, I see the book at thrift stores or even LFLs, and my mind is silently screaming: No no no. You cannot house that book in your library! 4y
Andrea4 @marleed my sister gave it to me when I had my jaw broken (surgery not accident) when I was 17 to have something to do. I'm not sure she really knew what it was about but man did that book make an impression. I've finally realized I'm never going to read it again even if I think it was a great book to read. I'm not sure how it's managed to stay on my shelves! 4y

This book felt very predictable and choppy. It was scattered and awkward in parts with a lukewarm story line, void of any memorable plot twists.

I was pretty disappointed after all the hype this book received.

However, I did finish it so it wasn't a complete Pan.

This book took a little bit of time to get info. I didn‘t enjoy it as much as The Girl on the Train, but it was still decent. Hawkins uses the same technique of shifting character perspective with each chapter. With more characters , less development, and shorter chapters in Into the Water, it was harder to get hooked.

I loved this book and found it hard to put down. Since other reviews mentioned there are lots of characters, I read the physical book instead of the audio. Once I got the hang of the characters, the story flew by and I read large chunks in one sitting. I also love my signed UK First Edition. 💙 #MountTBR

I thought Girl On The Train was over-hyped, but I did like it, so I thought I'd give this one a try . . . I almost DNFed it multiple times. There were too many POV characters, and Hawkins didn‘t develop them well enough in the beginning for me to keep them straight and know who was who, which I found frustrating. It finally picked up about 60% in. Yikes! It ended up a decent story, but I doubt I‘ll read one of her books again.

Megabooks Oh yeah, definitely a mediocre book. 4y
BookDragonNotWorm @Megabooks I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks so! I hate to give less than stellar reviews, but this one was just exactly what you said - mediocre is the perfect word to describe it. 4y

So it seemed like a really slow start I wanted to dnf. Glad I didn't cause it did get better. Once I was actually invested in finding out what happened to Nel Abbot.

Betty_Boa It was a like/ hate with her sister Jules like communication would have saved them both some heartbreak even with the "misunderstanding". I loved Lena and Nickie definitely my faves. Soo SPOILER the culprit is totally not who I was expecting it to be ? I Know obvious is Patrick Townsend, but I had my money on jealous vengeful Helen So totally mind blown there!! 5y
