Unearthed | Amie Kaufman, Meagan Spooner
When Earth intercepts a message from a long-extinct alien race, it seems like the solution humanity has been waiting for. The Undying's advanced technology has the potential to undo environmental damage and turn lives around, and their message leads to the planet Gaia, a treasure trove waiting to be explored. For Jules Addison and his fellow scholars, the discovery of an ancient alien culture offers unprecedented opportunity for study... as long as scavengers like Amelia Radcliffe don't loot everything first. Despite their opposing reasons for smuggling themselves onto the alien planet's surface, they're both desperate to uncover the riches hidden in the Undying temples. Beset by rival scavenger gangs, Jules and Mia form a fragile alliance... but both are keeping secrets that make trust nearly impossible. As they race to decode the ancient messages, Jules and Mia must navigate the traps and trials within the Undying temples and stay one step ahead of the scavvers on their heels. They came to Gaia certain that they had far more to fear from their fellow humans than the ancient beings whose mysteries they're trying to unravel. But the more they learn about the Undying, the more Jules and Mia start to feel like their presence in the temple is part of a grand design--one that could spell the end of the human race...

Earth is on the brink of collapse, so when a message from a long-extinct alien race called the 'Undying' is intercepted, it seems like the perfect solution. The message leads to a now uninhabited planet called Gaia where it's rumoured that the temples hold tech worth a fortune. Mia Radcliffe is hoping to make enough money scavenging to buy her sister back from an illegal contract but she will have to compete against faster & stronger competitors.

OutsmartYourShelf Meanwhile Jules Addison is headed to Gaia to look for the evidence that proves/disproves his dad's theory once & for all. Addison Snr was the foremost scientist in decoding the message from the 'Undying' but a short while ago, he started saying that there was a hidden warning in the message & that the tech may not be the salvation Earth is hoping for. Now he is under arrest, & Jules & Mia may be his & humanity's only hope.

OutsmartYourShelf This has been sitting on my TBR shelf for several years, so I finally dusted it off. It was really quite good. It's YA so there's the enemies-to-lovers thing (it's usually either that, a love triangle, or insta-love), but the actual plot itself was very well thought out. The temple bit is very Indiana-Jones-The-Last-Crusade-but-in-space with the different puzzles to solve. 7mo
OutsmartYourShelf Plus Jules & Mia are interesting characters & it was easy to become invested in their story. Overall it was a fast-paced adventure & there's a sequel to check out too. 4🌟

Not usually a fan of romance, however I really enjoyed the relationship between Amelia and Jules. I discovered Amie Kauffman late last year and have enjoyed every book and series she has written. YA book with mild language and violence.

Final update.

Busy week, but I took a tiny bit of time for myself. A little rest to get a cold in check before it turned nasty.

This picture shows #GhostCat while I tried doing yoga.

This wasn't my best round, but I definitely feel fitter than before starting round 1.

More or less a Goodreads find, that's the prompt I'll file this under. Have read the Illuminae files, but snagged this because it was prompted as Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft on foreign planet. Sold!

Listening to this while resting on my acupuncture mat. Steve West is the male narrator. 😍 Can we get an emoji with hearts for ears???
Also, the male character is called Jules. 😀

Molly_the_mezzo That acupuncture mat looks fascinating. How does that work? 5y
julesG @Molly_the_mezzo From shaktimat.eu "It stimulates pressure points in the body to encourage natural healing. Today, the ShaktiMat provides millions worldwide with relief from backpain, muscle tension, sleep problems and stress. Just 20 minutes laying on a ShaktiMat‘s 6000 points produces endorphins, leaving the body feeling deeply relaxed." - it hurts a bit, yes, but it definitely relaxes and I often drift off for a few minutes 5y

This was quite a fun adventure and I loved the characters. It had a tendency over explain things then switch point of views and over explain the same thing over again. descriptions were quite sparse, I had a bit of trouble picturing most things but it was fast paced and exciting. Overall I enjoyed my time here and will definitely pick up the next one.

6/10 💫

I enjoyed this book but not as much as I thought it would. I liked the idea of an Indiana Jones in space but I found that it took over 100 pages for me to really get into the book. Also I think I would have enjoyed it more as a third person narrative. It was done as first person going between the two main characters and I wasn't able to get the full expanse of the setting that might have been possible with a different narrative.

I‘m sad I didn‘t like this more. I really liked their previous series (These Broken Stars). I had to force myself to finish this and never felt invested in the main characters. Also, the writing was pretty rough. About every other page repeated what came before only in a slightly different way. This was a disappointing read from authors I enjoy. Not sure if I‘ll even give the second one a shot.

This book surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. It was fast paced and really liked its exploring of themes of loyalty and how far we are willing to go for the people we love. That cliffhanger was a doosy and the wait for book two is gonna suck though.

UNEARTHED by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner is a fast-paced YA adventure set in space. It manages to balance action and explosions with romance in cinematic style. Lots of fun, but watch out for the cliffhanger!

Definitely not the worst books that I read.

I think some of the characters actions weren't consistent throughout based on their personalities nor did I buy the romance BUT I liked the plot. Reminded me of Stargate or Star Wars or Firefly or...one of them space shows with portals.

I'll definitely pick up the sequel

I am excited for Unearthed, but overall, I am underwhelmed by the @Pagehabit Quarterly YA Box this time. I always like Out of Print pouches, but the other extras are lacking. And I already own Starflight, so I‘ll be giving this one away. I don‘t think many people are getting the Quarterly boxes since PageHabit took over, and maybe they put more effort into their monthly boxes. I tried canceling my subscription online and got an error. Meh.

Daisey I have not been as impressed with this box lately either. Not sure I'm going to keep subscribing much longer. 7y
