This story is a classic story about how if you give a mouse a cookie it will ask for more and more. This story goes through the progression of things a mouse will ask for after each thing you give them. This story has a great lesson about greed and consequences.

Wish it was cool enough to bake homemade cookies!
For all that the proverb(?) is popular enough to wheedle its way into a 90s action movie like Air Force One, I can't ever recall reading the book. As one might expect, it's a delight. I enjoy the fact that among the demanding actions of the mouse are its industrious efforts in house cleaning - I would certainly lend woodland creatures the supplies if they were going to clean my apartment!

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff with illustrations by Felicia Bond is a New York Times Best Seller about the course of events that follow if you give a mouse a cookie, starting with the mouse requesting milk for his cookie. This book would be great if it was used for storytelling because it is simple and fun. A website source that contains some activities related to this book is

emilypalkovich https://growingbookbybook.com/if-you-give-a-mouse-a-cookie-activities/. A UDL strategy that would work with this book would be to provide options for physical action. Since this book is aimed toward younger students, incorporating movement can help with focusing. An EL strategy for this book would be number 44: Focus on thinking skills by predicting, categorizing, classifying, observing and reporting. Students can predict what the mouse will want 4y

DrSpalding I don‘t think you saw it but one of your peers presented the if you give a dog a doughnut storytelling after class Thursday and it worked beautifully! Your resource shows how you can use this book in the classroom. Total physical response as an English learner and universal design principle aligns nicely with this teaching strategy. 4y

This classic MF and New York Times Bestseller is one that would be great for a SR! This starter book into the series is one that has been proven to be loved by everyone, as it shows cause and effect to students if you were to start by giving a mouse a cookie! http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/integrating-langu... this lesson plan is a great outline of how to run a SR. #ucflae3414sp21

Adodd1 The UDL strategies that would be best for this book and SR would be 8.3, as students would work together to meet objectives of the lesson, and 2.5 as this could be a book where students not only see the teachers large book but could also have their own to follow along. The EL strategies best fit would be 14 and 20 to help them be guided through the book with other students. 4y

This MF, RA multi award winning book and New York Times Best seller will become one of your students favorite reads. The lesson of this story involves cause and effect, problem/solution etc. A young boy works hard to meet the requests of a mouse who constantly asks for solutions to his problems. By the end, the boy has learned what really will happen to you if you give a mouse a cookie.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, he is going to.... read to find out!! This MF New York Times Best Seller written by Laura Numeroff is perfect for RT with kindergarten students. This story is about what happens when a young boy gives a mouse a cookie and the MANY things he will ask for after getting that cookie! This story captivates students and gives ample opportunities for whole class participation, activities, and lessons #ucflae3414su20

Emmaturtle3 This story can easily be used for RT and could involve all of the students in the class. This video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uYQhO09llTE shows young students acting out the story using fun props made in class which integrates the arts, the students also look as if they are having a great time!!
(edited) 4y
Emmaturtle3 UDL Principles for this book may include 1.3, offering a visual alternative with the acting out of the story. As for ESOL Strategies #17 could be used when the students are modeling or demonstrating the parts of the book. 4y

This MF book is a classic! I read this book growing up and it‘s just adorable. The book teaches about cause and effect and choices. Linked is a resource that allows students to compete a story plot by cutting and pasting pictures in the order they came in the book. This can be completed after doing a SR.
http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/integrating-langu...

juliap99 The EL strategy I chose is #7 showing students how to use graphic organizers like mapping and imaging. The activity I linked does this. The UDL I chose is 1.1 offer wats of customizing the display of info. This activity also does this! #ucflae3414sp20 5y

This F book was super cute to read. It was about a little mouse and what happens when he has a cookie. It talks about a variety of different tasks he completes and it leads him back to another glass of milk and of course another cookie. This book one the Georgia Children‘s Picture Storybook Award. Children will love this book as a read aloud in a circle on the carpet.

LizzettM The UDL Principle I would choose for this reading is (3.1) activate or supply background knowledge. The EL strategy 14, will allow students to understand the story when the teacher is reading it slower and emphasize on critical features.

This classic book HAD to be my last review. I decided to do NUMEROFF as my AS and I realized how wonderful of an author she is. This book is perfect for an AS but in a special way. You can have students learn about the specific ways she writes and have students create their own “If you give” books. This is fun and engaging and students love it! #ucflae3414sp20

Rachelleleduc Awards: Nevada Young Readers award & Buckeye Children‘s Book Award. This lesson plan coincides with ESOL #30 by having students use drawings to identify concepts. It also works with UDL 7.1 by allowing students to have individual choice. 5y

“If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” by Laura Joffe Numeroff is such a funny F book to perform a RA with! This book is about a very demanding little mouse who after receiving a cookie, wants a glass of milk, a straw, a napkin, etc! #UCFLAE3414F19

abbie-cadabbie The lesson plan I chose works well with this book because it allows the students to make predictions of their own, as well as helping them with sequencing and key vocabulary words. It includes enrichment activities that will be sure to keep your class entertained! https://teachers.net/lessons/posts/1956.html 5y
abbie-cadabbie The UDL strategy I chose is to clarify vocabulary and symbols (2.1) and to highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas and relationships (3.2) because of its relevance to the lesson plan. The ESOL strategy I chose is to integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities (16) 5y
DrSpalding These circle stories belong in the elementary classroom. They are so helpful for sequencing as you noted and this one in particular could also be used in a social studies unit, having students identify wants and needs or goods and services. 5y

#ucflae3414f19 If You Give A Mouse A Cookie written by Laura Joffe Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond was always such a fun book for me growing up. This children's F PB was a NYT best sellers and was first published in 1985.

Erinehart A UDL strategy that I would use during this RA is 5.2 “Use multiple tools for construction and composition.“ Providing the students with different visuals and tools to get the engaged.
A ESOL strategy for this text would be #17 “Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions“
5y
Erinehart http://www.atozteacherstuff.com/Themes/If_You_Give_a_____Books/index.shtml
This is a great resource for teachers as it provides them with different lesson plans relating to this PB.

YvetteE Students in early grades love the mouse books! A great book to introduce phonics for letters, “C“ and“M.“ 5y
DrSpalding These circle stories are truly engaging and while 5.2 could work… That would possibly work better if you cited storytelling. 5y

If You Give A Mouse. A Cookie by Laura Joffre Numeroff, 1985. Through the illustrations in this book, we can see just what happens when you give a mouse a cookie! The pictures in the book are detailed all the way down to things like labels on cereal boxes to knickknacks in the kitchen. The illustrations create a sort of movie like feel as we can see details in the actions and environment of the mouse and boy.
