A good book with great information and a terrible reminder that absolutely nothing has changed, for the better, since this book was published.

Starting with her story of online harassment from an abusive ex- that ballooned into Gamergate, her personal journey leads all the way to the UN, with stops at the Hugo‘s Rabid Puppies, and how some of those nastiest voices ended up in the current White House. She explains how the online “inquisitors” pick “witches” to burn, how the behavior can be tied into abusive relationship dynamics, how to secure your online life, and about moving on after.
This book is so eye opening...honestly it makes me think I should delete all social media (except Litsy, please don‘t ever turn on us Litsy). And honestly, that wouldn‘t even really help much. 😱🤯
My lunch date is late. Thankfully I had just downloaded the Kindle app to my phone this morning. Since I'd left my tablet charging on my office desk.
My latest read is inspired by Matthew, my anonymous Goodreads troll. Smash the patriarchy! #feministreads
Doing some Litsy catch-up, starting with Zoe Quinn's 'Crash Override', a great but short look into her Gamergate experience, what she learned from it, and how she's helping others.
"...you fundamentally cannot shame someone who is proud of what they are doing." Quinn talking about Breitbart's "reporters" and their attacks on her. A great way to explain what's going on in the US lately in politics.
Hoping this book helps create a movement to address online abuse.
#FierceFeb #NoOnesLittleGirl Zoe Quinn, an indie game developer, proved she was no one's little girl when her ex started & encouraged a massive online harassment campaign designed to destroy her. She weathered the terrifying storm & this book is a mix of memoir & primer of how to protect yourself from online abuse. An absorbing, often frightening & infuriating read. Even if you aren't a gamer there are lessons to be learned for anyone online.😱📚
Still trying to knock a cold 🤧out of my system so lots of sleeping today & a bit of reading in between naps. Well in between my naps... Max 🐱on the other hand eats (or naps some more) in between his naps.😹🤣 😼He says that he doesn't know why his mom is so fascinated by this book since there's no cats in it & it is about computer stuff, but he'll just let her read away while he gets his beauty sleep... #catsoflitsy 😽❤️
Our next books for #feministbookclub are Crash Override and Geek Feminist Revolution... Getting my feminist nerd on with some coffee this morning. Have a Kick Ass Saturday everyone!!
An incredible memoir that everyone who uses the internet should read. Funny, horrifying, inspiring!

It's my first avocado toast of 2018! 🎉🥑🍞Something my coffeeshop baristas tried to commemorate with spicy garlic-aioli. They get points for creativity & trying--maybe not so much on execution.😆 I got intrigued reading the description of this book when it was a recent Kindle deal but striving to buy fewer books, including e-books, I checked my library Overdrive & the e-book was available. I'm trying it out this morning before getting work done.

What it felt like while #Litsy was down!😆😉
I thought there was something wrong with my phone at first lol, so glad to see it's been resolved!😰😁
This book. THIS BOOK. I can only hope to live up to what Zoe Quinn lays out for us as a better internet world. They are a great example of embracing your imperfect self and using that to do Good. The BIG kind of Good. Consider me part of Crash Override.
Everyone everywhere should read AT LEAST this chapter of Zoe's book. Especially my mother.

I can't even put into words how I feel about this book. It is eye opening and truly breaks down how online abuse and bullying (to put it nicely) work and spread. It also breaks down how we in the general population can help break the chain once it's started. Perfect for the environment we find ourselves in.
In other words: how to fix all the things
Zoe Quinn is my hero. Their footnote game is strong. #spoilersaspunishmentforstupidity
This isn't a story about how we become evacuees. This is a story about how we become resilient.
The thing about systems? They're predictable, and anything that can be predicted can be disrupted, dismantled, and destroyed.
My current reading situation as I wait for the hubby to get home from work. This seems to be a frequent occurrence especially in the fall when midnight gets extra cuddly. #catsoflitsy
Guys, this book is amazing. Even if you aren't a gamer or familiar with the whole gamergate saga you still should read this book. I am only 65 pages in and can't put it down. It is eye opening to just how easily online hate and vitriol can be spread. Read this book.
My next read. Finishing up my week off in our favorite coffee shop and reading what could be better?

Like I said at the start of the month, all the stuff I'm really excited for comes out in October, and this one technically came out late August. A great read.
A fantastic read that emphasizes the importance of hope and perserverance while never sugar-coating the scope or intensity of the problems being combated. Also a valuable tool for personal use, be it shoring up your own online defenses, dealing with breaches and attacks, and helping others/seeking help. Wonderfully written and unfortunately essential.
Not quite what I expected, actually a lot more. Quinn moves through a quick memoir in order to center herself into the reality of what the book is actually about - widespread abuse on the internet, how to be a good digital citizen, and genuinely practical advice not just on digital hygiene but also on being better humans (often with the kind of droll humor that gets right to my heart #butts). An important book on its own terms not as a GG story.
Maybe I shouldn't be left alone on Saturdays... Went to the library to return a book and left with two. Went to the store for odds and ends ended up buying the socks because who can say no to Star Wars socks?
I am the first person to take out Crash Override. It hadn't even been put on the shelf yet. Asked if I could request it when it came in and the librarian said "I think it just came in." and got it for me. #score #libraryhaul #bookhaul
