Fight Club 2 (Graphic Novel)
Fight Club 2 (Graphic Novel) | Chuck Palahniuk, Cameron Stewart, David Mack
Fight Club 2 is avaliable exclusively as a Graphic Novel! Some imaginary friends never go away . . . Ten years after starting Project Mayhem, he lives a mundane life. A kid, a wife. Pills to keep his destiny at bay. But it won't last long, the wife has seen to that. He's back where he started, but this go-round he's got more at stake than his own life. The time has arrived . . .Rize or Die. New York Tomes bestselling novelist Chuck Palahniuk and acclaimed artist Cameron Stewart have collaborated for one of the most highly anticipated comic book and literary events of 2015--the return of Tyler Durden. The first rule of Fight Club 2 might be not to talk about it, but Fight Club 2 is generating international headlines and will introduce a new generation of readers to Project Mayhem. Praise for the comics that comprise Fight Club 2: "At turns deeply poignant and very funny, Palahniuk's freakish fables capture a twisted zeitgeist and add an oddly inspirational and subversive voice to the contemporary canon.... In the post-9/11 present, a hyperactive, Internet-obsessed, war- and recession-weary America apparently needs Tyler again."--THE ATLANTIC "The book is fantastic, my highest recommendation.... Excellent work by Cameron Stewart and David Mack, and by our awesome friends at Dark Horse Comics."--Brian Michael Bendis "If Tyler Durden needed a resurgence, there's no time like the present for his return... Fight Club 2 is a comic that taps back into everything great about the source material, and one that makes Tyler Durden's warm nihilistic embrace a welcome draw back into a familiar world of cynicism, violence, and anarchy...."Tyler Lives," and I couldn't be happier by the prospect of more bedlam."--NEWSARAMA "Palahniuk is delivering a worthy sequel to his most beloved story."--THE NERDIST "Entertaining."--COMIC BOOK RESOURCES "Excellent."--THE BEAT "An amazing piece of work. You do not want to miss out on this."--COMICVINE "Perfect."--FORCES OF GEEK "We have a worthy sequel on our hands.... A must read."--COMICOSITY "Cameron Stewart truly outdoes himself on every level in this book."--BLOODY DISGUSTING "Clever and beautiful."--COMICS ALLIANCE

Palahniuk is one of my favorite writers, his skill at scathing satire is virtually unmatched. I adore the original FIGHT CLUB. The comic format works for this sequel in bringing the absurdity to the forefront, something the seriousness of the original lost in translation to film.
Picking up ten years later, our protagonist and Marla have a precocious child and a troubled marriage. Most of this story is top notch until the unfortunate meta ending.

So.. Wow! I am so glad that I had found this book. It was so great to revisit these characters. And to see Tyler all “grown up“. Beautiful artwork too. Graphic novels inspire me to re-visit painting but.. its the set up that I cant/don't have room for right now. Anyway ... It is a must read!

Chrissyreadit Hi!!! I need to send mail your way- I‘m in finals week for one class and beginning of second class but I hope to this weekend. How are you? 4y
ElizaMarie @Chrissyreadit so. It‘s been a rough week last week and well early this week. But I‘m resting. I haven‘t responded to a bunch of letters/notes because well I‘m in a poor mood and was afraid it would seep out into my notes :/ anyway just spending the day reading and watching TV 4y
Catherine_Willoughby Based on movie or movie based on this ? Love the cover 4y

ElizaMarie @Catherine_Willoughby I read the novel based on the movie and then this one (I‘m going to read today) is the sequel to the novel/movie (but he only made it as a graphic novel) 4y
Catherine_Willoughby @ElizaMarie I must look for the novel - like movie book reads . Fan of the movie (the twist ) 4y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Both the novel and movie are my absolute favs! I immediately rewatched the film after finishing it the first time. I haven‘t watched a film over back-to-back like that since I was a wee girl watching Beauty and the Beast on a 24 hour loop. 🤣😂🤣 4y
ElizaMarie @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm and @Catherine_Willoghby I really enjoyed the Fight Club Novel and well this graphic novel (sequel) was super good too! I just finished it! Also I love this movie :) 4y

Wow. I expected this to be absolutely insane and it lived up to that and then some. Palahniuk is a genius. His works always leave me floored and thinking about the endings for a long time. This one is definitely no different. That ending. Brilliant. #catsoflitsy #comic

This seems to be some kind of graphic novel/comic series? I know @Cinfhen won‘t be reading it, but have you seen it @britt_brooke ? It‘s on sale for $2.99 on Kindle. #90sSpringFling

Well... 🤔... not sure about this one.

Was it just your usual Palahniuk or do I not know how to read graphic novels properly (which is possible, I don‘t read them often).

There were parts where I was super into it and parts where I was super lost 🤷🏻‍♀️

SkeletonKey I thought this book was....kind of terrible, lol! But I‘m not a huge fan of his written work either. 6y

I'm a big fan of Palahniuk's early stuff, and when I saw this, I couldn't help myself.

The artwork is really well done. We get to revisit many of the original characters. The story feels too disjointed for me. Granted I figured there be a bit of that, but some parts are too out there for me to justify the connection to the story.

I didn't love it; I didn't hate it. I'm just Meh...now I want to re-read the original and see how it holds up.

Returning to this world and these characters is something I was looking forward to, but there‘s a lot unexpected here. The revelation of Durden‘s origin and motivation is classic Palahniuk, reminiscent of Rant. This story has parallels to the original, sort of flipped, so that is a nod that was fun to follow. Lots of writing that you come to this looking for, quick one liners and retorts you wish you could have come up with. That ending, though...

I crammed all of my errands, including Christmas shopping, into yesterday so I'd have the rest of the weekend to read. To reward myself for dealing with crowded stores, I made time for trips to the library and B&N.

I plan to finish The Naturals today, so I had to get the next book in the series. A Map of Betrayal and Family Furnishings were both in the bargain section! I'm also super excited to find out what happens in Paper Girls vol. 2!

I kind of hated it. 💁 I didn't like the author putting himself in the story. I didn't like the forced plot that always felt stretched and thin. The artwork was perfectly fine; the chapter art was quite beautiful. But overall this felt like unnecessary fan service and try-hard intellectualism. I'm over Tyler Durden and Fight Club's whole attitude about modern masculinity. Do not recommend.

I'm really struggling with this. Perhaps I'm just not a graphic novel person.

PenguinInFlight The only graphic novels I've read are The Walking Dead...and I did love those. It took me a bit to adjust to reading in that format, though...because I've always been a "no pictures!" type person. ? 8y
Soubhiville I've read some comics and graphic novels, but I'm with @PenguinInFlight , the only ones I've really enjoyed are The Walking Dead. But come on, Zombies! I recently tried Monstress due to the raves it got on Litsy, but I just couldn't dig it. 😕 8y
kammartinez If this is your first go-round with graphic novels, then this might've been at the deep end of the pool. Maybe you should try Saga or Wicked + Divine? Those tend to be great for people who are just starting out with graphic novels :). Also it helps to imagine that you're watching a TV show or move while reading a graphic novel; might help you get the flow better :). 8y

Shortstack OMG NO!!! You so cannot judge graphic novels by this horrible piece of crap. Seriously, you're struggling because this is awful. If you like Batman pick up Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. But put this book down it only gets worse!! 8y
Bette Try something else. Some graphic novels lure me because of the art, some the writing. You never know! 😊👍 8y
PenguinInFlight I have heard Saga is really good. That's in my TBR stack! ☺️ My book twin that recommended TWD to me told me to try those next. 👍🏻 8y
McFarchie @Shortstack thank you! So it's not just me who thinks this book is.... horrible? I love Fight Club (the novel) so much that I even have a quote from it tattooed on my arm. This graphic novel is all over the place. 8y
Eyelit I read fight club 2 during 24in48 and grudgingly gave it a so-so rating (mainly cause I've read weirder and worse)... but it's not a great graphic novel at all and if you're struggling I say shove it aside and try something else. 😁 8y

See All 15 Comments
Shortstack He obviously wrote this to piss off fans of the movie due to the many snubs to his uber movie fans. And yet the Fight Club he bases this sequel off of is obviously a combination of both, pulling references from each as they serve him. Writing himself so heavily into the plot is an attempt to be modern and meta, but instead it is just snide, pretentious and lazy. Especially because the writing is much poorer than many of his other works. 8y
Shortstack Where Palahniuk shines is in his descriptions and the format robs him of that and leaves us with his rehashed nihilistic plot line combine with his standard despicable antiheroes which leaves nothing new to come into the story itself!!! And let's talk about the story! It's often challenging to follow at best and often literally unreadable as he covers up dialogue so frequently as things build up as if to say: 8y
Shortstack "Here is some dark, ominous, and philosophical b.s. but I'm actually too lazy to write it out." It robs the work of the opportunity to say anything interesting. He's just hoping he's kept everything convoluted and mysterious enough for people not to notice the entire thing is him making money off of sticking a middle finger up to his fans." 8y
Shortstack Also, the ending? OMG the ending. He cuts the main story arc unsatisfyingly short and vainly focuses almost the entire final chapter on him confronting his angry fans because HE KNOWS HE WROTE AN AWFUL STORY AND NOW HE WANTS TO TALK TO HIS FANS IN AN ELITIST AND SMUG ATTEMPT TO MAKE THEM THINK HE'S JUST SMARTER THEN THEM. Pretend you're in on the joke, he dares, laugh at the people that don't get it and sit haughtily here with me. 8y
Shortstack Never mind that he's repeatedly used breaking the fourth wall to avoid making a coherent story that stands on its own. Never mind that he mocks people for getting tattoos based on his work then later offers tattoos of his work to fund a kick starter campaign. This book is about cashing in on his most popular franchise while trying to burn it to the ground simply because he's sick of it and has the ego to think no one will be the wiser. 8y
Shortstack I think I'm done for now... But oh I could go on. It's just a smug, lazy, poorly written cash cow. I hate it so very very very much. 8y
Shortstack Also my rant has a ton of minor errors in it because my hate blinded me to proper grammar. Forgive me. 😂 8y
QuoteQueen Wow. Thank you for your thoughts @Shortstack ! I have to agree on many of those points! Even if my feelings aren't quite as strong as yours. ? Totally see where you are coming from on all that. I think I got so lost trying to figure out what the F was going in I have no real solid opinion on it. All I can seriously think is "WTF?!?!" Like with Big Bob, WTF was happening there?!?!? I didn't know what was going on 75% of the time... 8y
Shortstack I bought the comics as they came out and having the time to process this really did it an injustice. Because there was this constant hope that it was going to get better while each month watching it was a horror show of new lows. Getting the final chapter after so much wait time felt like a literal slap to the face. 8y
QuoteQueen @Shortstack ugh I can totally understand that. For me the slap wasn't so hard since I had it all at once. What you describe sounds painful. 😞 my hope that it got better or made sense was not so strong since the answer wasn't too far away. 8y
Shortstack Yeah, it was painful. I think reading it like a bandaid would prevent a lot of that pain. 8y
QuoteQueen @Shortstack I think you are right there. 8y
