This one was just ok for me. I liked the perspective of the young girl, and she plays a key role in knowing what happened to her father. Having a lion be a part of the story was interesting, and I wonder if that ever happened. But I wasn't as interested or invested in this story and characters as I was the others.
Very different to my usual type of book but I really enjoyed it. Loved the style of writing and it was a moving story

Some books from my stacks featuring an #LaIslaBonita 🏝& an Island in the title. I stuck to the more tropical locations. Some of these I‘ve read, others are still #TBR
This historical fiction is set in 1941. It shows the separation and unity of a small Hawaiian community, with a sprinkle of Marines. It's historically accurate, and follows the dates of the war well, allowing the reader a more involved role. From the newspaper headlines, to the military vehicles, this author did her homework! What a great read this has been!
I loved this book, and would recommend it to anyone!
📚📚 Happy Reading! 📚📚
I received this book last year for an Instagram review tour but barely started it then, so I picked it as the Dec/Jan book for the virtual foodie book club I co-host. I enjoyed the Big Island setting in a WWII historical novel as it's a glimpse of wartime life you don't see often in books. Mother Violet & Daughter Ella narrate the story with mystery, romance & pie. Paired with a Tropical Pineapple Pie with toasted coconut crust. Recipe link👇🏻
I made it halfway through the audiobook and I‘m going to bail. The reader performances are nothing special. I don‘t care about any of the characters, except maybe Brownie the chicken 🐓. I‘m a fan of historical fiction set in WWII, but this one isn‘t for me. I just cannot see wasting my time when my TBR awaits.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved the writing style, characters, and the story.
Going to try to lose myself here for a bit after a terribly stressful week. 😢
Such a great book. You definitely feel good reading it. In the aftermath of Pearl Harbor this book talks about a Hawaiian Island and a small group of friends who must deal with rising tensions toward people of Japanese descent. These women laugh, cry, love, bake, worry, dance, and anything they can to make it through the days. When you read it, you‘ll fall in love with Roscoe, the adorable Marine hero. 💜💜💜
Ran my errands & settling in to finish up these two books in the month of March. (I've got about 13 hours to midnight here!) What else does this (gray & rainy) Saturday before Easter hold? It includes green juice to counter the effects of a Russell Stover Marshmallow Egg (in honor of my mom who loved them💙) & lavender-hued toes.
Can purple toes make someone #FallAtYourFeet ? (I'm sorry but I'm catching up on #MarchIntoOz & I had to be lame!) 💜
Great story of Hawaii during WWII, with some suspense and a pet lion thrown in for good measure. Fairly light reading.
#MarchIntoOz #sunshine 🌞We finally had sunshine today after lots of grey & rainy days. I managed to read out back for a bit this afternoon while watching Mr. Max 🐱who takes any opportunity to prowl his backyard territory. I took a bag of trash out front & my neighborhood cattle egret was the enjoying the sunshine on top of a neighbor's truck. I had to go back in & grab my camera-but it didn't seem like he was planning on going anywhere soon.😆
It's been just grey and cool enough to make this Potato Soup with White Cheddar & Chives leftover from Sunday, a pretty perfect dinner. 📚💙🍲Picking this Hawaii-set WWII historical novel up again. I had to set it aside for other books with deadlines but I'm happy to get back to the story tonight. 🌺
Does anyone else use two bookmarks to set chapter and/or page reading goals?
Love the cover historical fiction set in Hawaii perfect for my weekend reading 📚💕👏

#ReadingResolutions #MarchTBR My #TBR stack for March, minus e-books, audiobooks, a couple more #ARCs for book tour reviews that have not arrived yet & anything else I stumble across & *need* to read. 📚📚😬📚📚📚 The 🐔🐔🐔haven't made an appearance for a while so I had to throw them in. 🐔❤️😆
Hawaii, 1944. The Pacific battles of World War II continue to threaten American soil, and on the home front, the bonds of friendship and the strength of love are tested.
First #bookmail that has arrived since I got home yesterday. Book mail is always a good thing & I'm excited for this WW2 Hawaii-set, novel of female friendship for review next month. Missing from the picture is 🐱Max who says that he is still 'jury is out' on his Mom.😼There were some late night snuggles but I am letting him drive things. Poor boy has been through a lot of stress this month-so pics to come for his Litsy friends🙀#catsoflitsy 😽❤️
