This modern fantasy book is a time-shift fantasy. It shifts story lines from present and past and shows us people stuck in a state over hundreds of years known to have secret immortality. It contains a plot that is believable, but holds an aspect to make us question it. The theme is also worthwhile and lets kid know that sometimes the present is what matters most - Not to wish your life away and admire that aspects that you enjoy of it.

This book is about a kid named Winnie who runs away and ends up finding the Tuck family. Turns out that this family holds secret immortality and live never-ending from the water they withhold. I think kids would find this enjoyable and I think it gives off a way to relate for these kid readers.

I found this store today while looking for goodies to add to my Wishlist for @JoScho ‘s upcoming #HFTSS mini-swap. They make roll-on perfumes inspired by some of my favorite books/shows. I definitely lost a large chunk of minutes to online window-shopping.

Good morning, Littens! 🌞
Something that's been super fun about this new job is re-reading a lot of books that I'd forgotten about from my childhood. I think this one was assigned to me in 2nd or 3rd grade? I don't remember much about it other than I liked it.

Marilyncjackson Love this book! 6mo

This would be a good book for upper elementary children. There are no pictures, but the text is big and readable. I think this book would keep students very interested and wanting to know what is going to happen next.

Genre: Historical Fiction
This book is about a girl named Winnie who has to to decide if “eternal life is a blessing or a curse”. She is given the opportunity to drink from a spring that grants immortality. The Tuck family tells her of their experiences over the years of being immortal, and she has to decide if she wants to keep their secret or not. This book seems super suspenseful and a book that I would never want to put down.

I think I read this book when I was way too young. I hated it when I first read it and didn‘t like anything about it. Later I reviewed it for another class and actually came to appreciate it a lot.

Let‘s talk about big decisions here. I think kids would love this alternate universe story of eternal life. They may even think about it they‘d want to live forever, given the same circumstances as the characters in the book.

I‘m thinking of hosting a low-key reading event in May, in celebration of National Children‘s Book Week. My thought is to match participating Littens together (randomly) in pairs. Each person would choose *one* children‘s novel to assign the other person to read during the week of May 10-16. I‘ll also be reading classic children‘s books all month to celebrate. 🎉

Putting out feelers. 🐜👽✌🏻📖

⚡️ Before Harry Potter, my faves were Dr Seuss books and the Pony Pals series
⚡️ There‘s too many... first one that comes to mind is playing hide and seek or kick the can in the woods around my house
⚡️ Sweeping and dusting. I still hate them.
⚡️ When I was 2 I was given a rag doll that was as big as I was. I named her Fishie... no one, including me, knows why. I treated her like she was a real person.
⚡️My fave since 6th grade

I‘m sharing the quote on the cover with all of you. I think it‘s appropriate on MLK Day:

I‘m very grateful today 🙏

Working hard on a few books. Amazingly when I start to read I read really very slowly unlike I usually do. I get so into it and it becomes my own little world. :) Enjoying all the story's and lessons in Tuck Everlastimg I heard and experienced today over a sweet refresher. Books are everywhere!

It was so interesting to think about mortality from the other side...someone who is incapable of dying comes to wish for it. Living forever may not actually be everything we assume...⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I somehow never read this book growing up, so I remedied that tonight. I liked it. It was a quiet sort of book, with simple but vivid descriptions of nature and a small cast of characters. It almost felt like a fable to me in its method of storytelling.

Good morning #24in48 readathoners! I‘m in bed pursuing my stack for the Hour 6 challenge. I think Tuck Everlasting has my favorite opening line:
“The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning.”

staci.reads That whole opening paragraph is so beautiful! I use it in my writing classes when I share examples of types of openings. I love it! 1y

This TL novel tells the story of Winnie Foster, a young girl in the 1880s, who comes across the Tuck family with a dark secret. They become incredibly close and they take her in as their own. After learning that the family accidentally drank from the fountain of youth many years ago, she must decide if she should do the same in order to stay with her dear friends.

erin.yarbrough This book would best benefit as a LC due to the inferences made by the reader about several characters feelings and actions throughout the story, but it could also be used as a RA, IR, SR, PR, or DR due to the higher-level vocabulary and dynamic viewpoints from the characters in the book. This book would be great in a social studies lesson for 5th grade since Mayan culture is discussed. Comparing their fountain of youth to Babbitt‘s would be great 2y
erin.yarbrough An EL strategy to use is to show the movie as well as read the book so the ELL can understand what is happening throughout the book visually instead of verbally. (#17) A UDL strategy would be to activate background knowledge by talking about stories of the fountain of youth and by beginning each book lesson with a class discussion or refresher of last chapter. (3.1, 2.1) #UCFLAE3414SP18 (edited) 2y
DrSpalding Wow Erin! This is a true favorite of mine. Literature circles along with the other strategies mentioned are perfect for this book. It is so versatile and truly does elicit conversation. When my children read this in elementary school, the teacher asked, would you want to live forever? After reading the text, their opinions changed a lot! Excellent post that includes all the necessary elements! Wonderful web resource! 2y
LisaMart @erin.yarbrough I had a flashback when I saw the picture of this book in your post! I remember reading this book in school! It feels like forever ago! I forgot how great this book is! And, please tell me, there is a movie on this book also, right? I seem to remember watching the movie... 🤔 2y

#FridayFrigesDay @SpeculativeFemale

1.) I read Tuck Everlasting as a kid and threw the book when I read the ending. The themes of life and death were just hard for me to conceptualize - still makes me sad.
2.) Polka dots - I have quite a few black and white polka dotted dresses.
3.) Rather just have some ketchup, but cheese if I had to choose.
4.) Soda, but I've adopted calling it 'juice' since moving to Glasgow.
