This arrived in the mail today from ThriftBooks, and yep, I ordered it myself. I just can‘t remember WHY I ordered it. Checked Litsy posts and cannot figure out why on earth I bought a book with 1176 pages. I remember this book from the early 80‘s, but have never read it. I‘m losing my marbles. 🤨🧐

Suet624 Hahaha. I completely understand the befuddlement. Hope you enjoy the book. 10mo
Deblovestoread Must have been an impulse buy lol. I loved it when I read it years ago. 10mo
dabbe You made my day. I'm glad it's not just me! 💙🤣💚 10mo

I hate to quit on this book. I don't dislike it. I plan to try reading it again in a few years. Right now, I'm not invested enough in the characters or the plot to read 1200 pages of it. If it were shorter, I'd absolutely finish it. But it's too long to not love it

Gave up on book no. 3...

Andrew65 That‘s a big book and mood can effect those. 3y
AllisonM89 @Andrew65 Absolutely! 3y
TheAromaofBooks I don't think I've read any books over 600 pages this year. I just do NOT have the attention span for them right now... or apparently for the last 10 months or so! 😂 3y
AllisonM89 @TheAromaofBooks i totally get it! I've read a few obnoxiously long book, but i really need to be invested to make it through 😂 3y

Update to#novelnovemer @andrew65 goals:

Read half of And the Ladies of the Club this week! Its only 1200 pages but it's a very slow 1200 pages. I don't see myself getting through more than 100 pages/day. So let's set realistic goals! 😂

Andrew65 Going well 👏👏👏 3y
rubyslippersreads I like this one, but you‘re right that it‘s slow going. 3y

Finally getting around to reading this one. Hoping to finish by the end of #novelnovember @andrew65

This is my favorite underrated book! It‘s a giant time of multi generational town politics and family dynamics and a historical fiction set in post Civil war in Ohio, one of my few retreads #24in48

PurpleyPumpkin This has been on my tbr for forever!!! And from your review, it sounds like a novel I‘ll really enjoy. I‘ll have to move it up. 😉 6y
Jbakesmcgee3 @PurpleyPumpkin oh I‘m soooo glad!!!! It‘s really a lovely book that you don‘t ever want to end (and it doesn‘t because it‘s soooo long hehehe 😂) 6y

This one is quite the commitment - coming in at 1433 pages! Simultaneously enjoying the sweeping epic and the look into small-town politics and history.

Readers who liked Gone With the Wind, The Thornbirds, and Little Women will likely enjoy this one!

(Don‘t know if you can tell, but my copy is falling apart! I had to tape the cover back onto the book! At least I love a well-read copy! 😆)

Started this book today for a buddy read with @Tove_Reads - it has 1176 pages. If we read 44 pages a day then we can finish it by June 30th. Now it doesn‘t seem so daunting.

You are welcome to join us, if you have a copy of the book. It‘s about women in Ohio in 1868 that formed a Women‘s Club in order to promote literacy among women. There are still functioning Women‘s Clubs in the US today.

Pamwurtzler Wow I read that book years ago and loved it. I‘m not sure I‘d want to dust it (seriously) and reread it, but I hope you guys love it too! 6y
EadieB @Pamwurtzler It seems to get good reviews. I actually was president of the Woman‘s Club in my home town in 1997 when it was their 100th Anniversary. We had a Victorian dinner/dance at the country club. It was a lot of fun! 6y
Pamwurtzler @EadieB that sounds fun! 6y

thea-block Have you finished your buddy read? I just picked this one up last week and I‘m enjoying it so far! I‘d love you hear if you finished it and what you thought! 6y
EadieB @thea-block Not yet! Got to about 150 pages in and got sidetracked. I was enjoying it but it took me hours to get to 150 because of the small print and I had to put it aside. Hope to get back to it though! 6y
thea-block @EadieB I totally understand - I got stuck at that point too! Let me know when you pick it back up - I‘d love to chat about it! 6y
EadieB @thea-block I just checked - I am on page 187 in the book that has 1433 pages. I have the larger paperback too that has 1174 pages. In that one, I am on page 157. The years are 1873-1874. At the moment I am also reading The Dark Tower series and a few other books. I have signed up for the August make me read it where people vote on what you should read first. So I could probably continue a bit here and there with full focus to finish in September. 6y

We‘re supposed to get a big snowstorm tomorrow in Southern Vermont. ❄️ So I rushed to the library after choir rehearsal this evening and picked this beauty up. My therapist told me she thought I‘d like it, and it‘s also bigger than a brick. 😅📚🤓 #ilikebigbooksandicannotlie #bibliophile #bookworm #reader

ValerieAndBooks I read this many years ago when it was still new, and was really immersed into their lives! I‘ve still hung onto my copy, thinking someday I want to read it again 😊. 6y
tracycatherinereads Good to know, @ValerieAndBooks ! I‘m just a liiiittle intimidated by its length, but I have heard wonderful things about it. I read the first few pages yesterday and I‘m hoping to become more invested in it tonight. ❤️ 6y

So I read The Hate U Give last night in one sitting. It‘s such an important piece. Go give it a read if you haven‘t already. I just placed a hold on this title at my library. My therapist recommended it - she‘s as much a bibliophile as I am. If she wasn‘t my therapist we‘d probably be best buddies. Have any of you read this? #tbr

Melissa_J I haven‘t, but have heard great things about it. It‘s really long, isn‘t it? 6y
tracycatherinereads @Melissa_J it‘s a BRICK! 1176 pages and the font is pretty small in the copy I got from my library. 😳 6y

I need to quit my job to become a professional reader... These are some of my recent purchases of construction blocks I NEED to read. I‘ve been looking for some of these for ages, and now I have them, yay! How many hours will it take to get through all of these, what do you think?

TrishB Some big ones there 😁 6y
Andrew65 Some great books there. 6y

scripturient I love The Mists of Avalon! 😍 Never read Leon Uris but I remember seeing this book on everyone‘s bookshelves in the 80s. Childhood memories. 😊 6y
minkyb Good job @Cinfhen Love the phrase construction blocks ‼️🤣 6y
Tove_Reads @TrishB Isn‘t it great that big books still exist 😊? @Andrew65 Yup, been waiting to get my hands on these! @scripturient My friend @Savugirl speaks highly of it as well. I 💗 Leon Uris! @minkyb Pillars of the earth weights about as much as one brick! 6y
Reecaspieces Great books!!! 6y
TrishB I love big books😀 6y
JamieArc One of my 2018 goals is to not focus on the number of books I read. This is because I have some chunksters I‘ve been wanting to read forever, so I‘m focusing on those. Mists of Avalon is one 😊 6y
Tove_Reads @JamieArc Count pages instead of books! I plan on reading these books soonish. I do read shorter books at the same time though. About time I read Avalon, too! 6y
RebelReader You have some good ones in that stack! Well worth the hours spent! 😃 6y

Biggest #chunksters on my TBR list.

1,184 pages - And The Ladies of the Club
1,076 pages - The Father's Tale
1,070 pages - Drums of Autumn
976 pages - Sacred Games
945 pages - Lonesome Dove
897 pages - I Know This Much Is True

Daisey I think Lonesome Dove is going on my next year's official TBR! 7y

Extremes in my TBR list. Can't believe I still have a book that I added in 2012. Probably time to read it or ditch it. And with 127 pages, why haven't I read Fair Play yet? The lowest rated book on my list is 3.46. Not too shabby.

saresmoore PSA: Read Fair Play! 😁 7y

I have a few #bigbooks over 600 pages long, but this one is about a ladies' literary club started in the civil war era and continues for another 50 years or so. I don't recall much talk about books, but a lot of family sagas and conflicts and romances. Good stuff, right? I read this when it first came out, all the talk about this book mainly focused on the first-time author being 88 years old! Need to re-read. #funphotofriday #funfridayphoto

LeahBergen I read this "way back when", too! (I can hardly remember any of it though ?) 7y
Loreen I read way back then too. I haven't re-read it in years. 7y
CocoReads I bought this at a used bookstore awhile back but haven't been up to tackling it yet. 7y
CherylDeFranceschi 😂😂😂I've had a copy of it only my TBR since way back when! 7y
ValerieAndBooks @LeahBergen I don't either...except for the storyline of the unfaithful doctor and his long-suffering wife! But I liked it enough to keep it even after all the moves I've had. @Loreen I keep thinking I'll re-read 😊. Someday! @CocoReads @CherylDeFranceschi i thought it was pretty readable in spite of its size. But that was a long time ago with fewer distractions (i.e. Before kids)! I'm curious if it'd still stand the test of time for me. 7y
