Capturing the Devil
Capturing the Devil | Kerri Maniscalco
In the shocking finale to the bestselling series that began with Stalking Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose and Thomas are on the hunt for the depraved, elusive killer known as the White City Devil. A deadly game of cat-and-mouse has them fighting to stay one step ahead of the brilliant serial killer---or see their fateful romance cut short by unspeakable tragedy. Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell have landed in America, a bold, brash land unlike the genteel streets of London they knew. But like London, the city of Chicago hides its dark secrets well. When the two attend the spectacular World's Fair, they find the once-in-a-lifetime event tainted with reports of missing people and unsolved murders. Determined to help, Audrey Rose and Thomas begin their investigations, only to find themselves facing a serial killer unlike any they've heard of before. Identifying him is one thing, but capturing him---and getting dangerously lost in the infamous Murder Hotel he constructed as a terrifying torture device---is another. Will Audrey Rose and Thomas see their last mystery to the end---together and in love---or will their fortunes finally run out when their most depraved adversary makes one final, devastating kill?

A blast of frigid air greeted me as I unlatched the carriage door and stumbled onto the street, my attention stuck on the raised axe. Watery sunlight dribbled off its edge like fresh blood, tricking me into recalling recent events.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)

“Capturing the Devil” was a bit of a whirlwind, and I definitely didn‘t see some of the plot twists coming. This book follows its predecessors in horrifying murders and suspense, and I found the plot line, character arcs, and conclusion to be interesting and satisfying. I will miss this series and its characters!

I am so disappointed in this. This series was so good but this book was so focused on the love story it took away from what was great about the other 3. There was just not the same balance.

Seamlessly following the events from Escaping from Houdini, Audrey and Thomas have to find out how Ripper-like murders can happen in New York.

Add lots of personal drama and escaping to - as you can see on the cover - Chicago during the World Fair, you might have an idea which Devil in the White City the duo has to capture.

It was veeeeeerrrrryyyy predictable, but still a good ending to the series.

The end of the series has arrived (although I'm a bit late to the reading party!). I was satisfied with the way this wrapped up. It is Audrey Rose and Thomas' most deadly case yet. Women are coming up missing at an alarming rate, but as there are no bodies they are unable to get the police to believe them.

At the same time, Thomas' father's played his hand. Will they both come out alive? Will they remain together if they do?

I really loved how this final book tied all the previous adventures into the plot, and I really loved how it had strong links to the first book, it truly felt like a special ending that wrapped things up so nicely. Of course the romance was perfect and I swooned my way through the book. I liked the pacing, this one was more focused on the romance but still had the mystery woven. Overall such a spectacular series, I'm sad to finish it!

I thought this was a satisfying conclusion to the Stalking the Ripper series and enjoyed it much more than third book. It was pleasing to see Audrey Rose and Thomas get their HEA. I do think it could have been a bit shorter. I didn‘t need the relationship drama created by Thomas‘ father. Although how that was wrapped up was amusing. I think they should have been in Chicago sooner as well. #CompletedSeries #BookspinBingo

The first 60-70% of this book really suffered from the unnecessary love/wedding drama. The mystery was good but predictable and the ending felt a little rushed. I would have liked to see more of the World‘s Fair and less of the dumb love drama.

The final installment in the series! What a great ending! I love that Audrey Rose solves the problem on her own and didn‘t have to be rescued by Thomas. A good ending, tying up all the loose ends (and some you didn‘t know were loose) of the series. My first finish for #alternate24in48

I really enjoy collecting alternative dust jackets for my favorite books. But now I have no idea what to do with these. What does everyone do with their original dust jackets? Or am I the only one that gets different ones?

SmartSassery @Mrs_B oh my goodness. Its addictive. I'm so sorry! 😭🤣 Many of the subscription box companies sell them. They go so fast though. Litjoy's books have it printed on the other side so its reversible. I love them all so much. I'll have to post some soon. 5y

This story was an amazing series ender that didn‘t go silently into the night. There were many twists & turns that took place & on more than one occasion my heart was torn apart. The emotional evocation that was brought about left me feeling wrung out, but only in the best of ways! The depth of character development throughout this series for both Audrey and Thomas was truly illustrated in this story & many hard choices were made by both of them.

The Shining was a re-read but it's still my favorite read this month. 🖤 Although I finished up the Stalking Jack the Ripper Series and it was amazing. Made some really great points about how society (even today) treats women that have a passion for something that doesn't seem feminine. It was a bit more romance than I'd like but it wasn't the typical toxic romance. It was quite sweet and honorable. Most all of my October were rereads 😂 😂

I think I was more excited for this book than any other in the series! Sure, there were quite a few historical inaccuracies but there were also so many interesting facts added in that you wouldn't know about unless you're well versed in this case so big props to the author for that!

I do feel like the climax was a bit rushed. I would have liked to have seen more conflict there but other than that, I feel this is a great ending to the series.
