This book will not disappoint. I know that the title sound sad but the book is full of adventure. I don‘t know if you will like this book, but I loved it. I had this feeling that I wanted it to end to know what happens but if I finished it, I would have lost a friend...
I just want to say that I really really liked this book and I appreciate the author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are looking for a book that will pull at your heartstrings and make it hard for you to put the book down, this is a must-read for you. Some Kind of Happiness is a novel that I will never forget as it captured my heart and imagination from the moment I read the first few pages. The story follows the main character Finley Hart, a young writer, through a story that she has created based on her real-life issues which are set in the...

FinleyLothian Evergreen Forest. The story becomes a way for her to escape the reality and internal struggles she has to face daily revolving around her perception of self and her relationship with her family. It is a delightful collision of reality and fantasy that leaves you thinking about many important life lessons and how the story can relate to your life - every person has their personal Evergreen Forest to save.
3y
FinleyLothian With her parents trying to rekindle their broken marriage, Finley gets sent to her grandparents‘ house for the summer. Her only safe haven for the duration of the time spent with extended family is the Everwood Forest, a magical forest kingdom that exists in her notebook pages. 3y
FinleyLothian With further exploration of her grandparents' estate, she discovers there is a large forest behind their house. This discovery leads to the feeling that perhaps the Everwood Forest was indeed an actual place after all; holding more mysteries than the mind could ever imagine behind each branch and bush. 3y

FinleyLothian Finley, thanks to the help of her cousins, sets out on a noble quest to save the forest before it dies and discovers all of its great hidden secrets. As her journey gets underway, she suddenly realizes that perhaps the mission isn‘t only saving the forest but one that is focused on saving herself.
3y
FinleyLothian There are various motifs present in the novel that are developed beautifully throughout the journey. Some include secrets, truth, family/friendship and trust. Finley's journey is very symbolic and full of deep and meaningful topics that are very relatable to human nature/tendencies. 3y
FinleyLothian Through Finley‘s determination to seek the truth about all the mysteries of the forest, the themes or everything going on in her life are easy to understand and each incident or obstacle that is encountered becomes a lesson in resiliency.
3y
FinleyLothian The narration is a first-person point of view; as told by Finley Hart, our protagonist. It is told from this point of view in order to understand Finley‘s most inner thoughts, which allows us to create a deeper connection and a more developed sense of sympathy for her character. It provides more context and emotional weight to the novel. 3y
FinleyLothian With being able to understand fully how Finley feels, it was easy to connect to her and understand the point and themes the author was trying to convey to the reading audience.
3y
FinleyLothian There is very little character development in the story, and it does not contain any major plot twists; you simply get to be a part of Finley‘s journey and the events that pass. I feel this may be one of the biggest compliments to the book's great meaning, as it is effortless to relate to or be sympathetic towards the internal struggles we watch Finley undergo. We see a glimpse of the anguish of someone who is hurting, depressed and struggling. 3y
FinleyLothian There is a beautiful emphasis on character feelings, with the author using raw and deep personalities to embody the human experience juxtaposed against the mundane of one‘s day-to-day life. The novel has left a wonderful impression and captured the idea that there are things in our lives that we cannot control, and that it's okay to feel overwhelmed or not know how to handle these situations. 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done and very in-depth Finley! It looks incredible - and I bet it helped that you share the same name with the protagonist! 6/6 3y

I hate to put this down to go to bed. Reading this takes me back to the innocence, adventure and hope of adolescence. I love the main character and the poetic prose the author uses. The lists and the story of the Everwood make this so enchanting. What a perfect read to span the end of one year and the beginning of a new one.

I'm currently reading two books, both of which I've just started and hope to have finished before the end of the year. The tagged book is a paperback that I'm reading for a Twitter chat with other English teachers in my school district. The other is an audiobook, Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson. I've recently started listening to audiobooks while I cook, fold laundry etc. It makes mind numbing tasks considerably more bearable. @Clwojick

Libby1 I‘m reading 6 at the moment, but I blame @SerialReader for that. 😉 I love it! 6y

“I start to worry that I should be saying something. Most of the time I think I could be perfectly content without saying a single word, but no one else seems to function that way. There is so much talking in the world, and so much expectation to talk, even if you do not feel like talking. I find it overwhelming.”

This little book is just lovely in so many ways. I absolutely adore it.

I was officially diagnosed with anxiety disorder at the age of 39, but I've suffered from it my entire life. The way that the author describes an anxiety attack through 11 year old Fin in this story is so spot on. I wish I'd had this book when I was 11.

My review for SOME KIND OF HAPPINESS by the incredible @clairelegrand is up on my blog, so be sure to check it out! 🌿

Quick question for you lovelies: do you prefer dark and moody or light and bright? I'm always so caught between these two looks, but I find most things look better when the setting is a bit more moody? I don't know, that's just my opinion though. 🌚

I haven't felt this emotional from a book since TIGER LILY. As someone who struggles with anxiety, along with occasionally some very deep, dark lows, this book filled me with so much emotion. I could relate to the main character Finley so much. I could feel her pain and guilt. The sorrow. This novel is haunting and moving, and by far the best middle-grade book I've ever read. Please pick this book up and give it a read. 💚

As far as middle grade reads go this book is top notch! Claire Legrand captures the imagination and escape of a young girl into a world of fantasy she created through writing. I would recommend this book to anyone who spent their childhood writing stories and playing in the woods.

This is one of the best descriptions of anxiety/panic attacks I've read in fiction. I'm really glad that there are kidslit books in the world that are telling the stories of anxious kids, shy kids, weird kids. I think there are lots of people who never get to see themselves in books, and think they are the only ones who feel stuff like this.
