Both a coming-of-age character study and a survival adventure story, I felt like this book veered a bit into the ridiculous trying to pack in every survival scenario possible. I don‘t want to give any spoilers, but there was a twist at the end that really threw me for a loop. Overall entertaining enough, 3.75 stars. Photo is one I took in Crested Butte, CO, an absolutely gorgeous mountain town.
A good survival story of 4 people lost on a mountain with little hope of a rescue. The book revolves around learning about the individuals and their backstories more than the actual attempts to escape the habitat they are trapped in. Probably a good thing as those moments of ‘action‘ became really repetitive for me.
Last book of 2019 was the tagged book - The Mountain Story by Lori Lansens. First book of 2020 is He Said / She Said by Erin Kelly. Two very different books but two enjoyable reads.

Managed to squeeze in The Mountain Story as one last read in 2019. Four hikers get lost on a mountain and as much as it is a survival story it is also focused quite a bit on the characters themselves (especially Wolf's backstory). The first 1/3 of the book was hard to get through but it picked up from there and although not my favourite Lori Lansens book I still enjoyed it.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through The Mountain Story as I try to read one more book by the end of the year. I am enjoying the book so far but I can't say that I'm enjoying it as much as I liked The Girls and Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens. Still a lot of reading left for the book to pick up though.

The #mardybum count is sky high in this book. Granted, being stuck on a mountain for five days without adequate food, water, or clothing would test anyone. The four characters stranded together were interesting enough, albeit some of them (BRIDGET) were super annoying and the book itself had a trite tone that was disappointing. #ayupaugust #darguschmarkupbookclub

2. My son's latest report card from school mentioned how he is very observant of his classmates and will always reach out to someone who seems sad and offer them help. Nothing could make me more proud of him.
3. Most recently was The Mountain Story. Just couldn't get into it.
4. My son's championship hockey game, and a visit with my parents.

I‘m surprised at the great reviews this book gets. It is written like it should be YA. I am going to rate this 5🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄rolls for all the ridiculous things the author wrote. The narrator had the keenest sense of smell of anyone ever - he could smell rotting fish in a pond miles away. 🙄
We are reading this in our family mark up book club so the comments should get interesting. I laughed out loud so many times thanks to comments by @emilyhaldi
Today I finished my pick (tagged) for the #darguschfamilymarkupbookclub and had a lot of fun writing my thoughts in the margins 📝 Although I feel a lot of pressure passing this on to the rest of the group to read!! Hoping they like it.. 🤞🏻
The book on top is my next read- @Reviewsbylola ‘s pick for the group 🤗😣
This could very well be a case of it's not you, it's me, but I just can not get into this one! I may try again another time, but for now I'm gonna bail.
This story is about four hikers who climb a mountain and get stranded and they endure alot of trouble and they do whatever it takes to survive in the wilderness, the hikers who survive are forever changed,😕
This sounds dark, honest , and terrifying.
But I love survival books, stuff is so good!
*get in my brain🤓😁

One of my favourite books. It‘s a little dark, but it‘s an emotional ride that I would take again.
Solid thriller! I‘m a sucker for survival and wilderness stories. This is much more character-driven than I was expecting, and I didn‘t feel the peril of their situation as I have reading non-fiction with this sort of subject matter, I was still thoroughly entertained. Lansens is a good, engaging storyteller.
“Regrets. Sure you think about regrets, but it's not regret for the things you've done that occupy you, as much as it is a longing for the things you'll never have a chance to do.”
Great thriller with interesting characters and a solo d story line. It preyed on my fears about being lost and subjected to the elements.
While I don't put too much emphasis on "stars" on Litsy, I rate the shit out of books on Goodreads. I hardly ever give anything 5 stars, but this book made the cut. Maybe it's because it's getting cooler and that makes me happy. Maybe it's because I am a sucker for survival fiction. Either way, I really enjoyed the story of Wolf. Wolf decides to end his life on the mountain, but he soon finds himself lost on the mountain with three women.
Good morning/afternoon/evening Littens! I hope everyone is having a great day, or is at least surviving a horrible one (you can do it!!!). Just wanted to share another #currentlyreading with you all. I'm not very far into this one, but I'm definitely intrigued. The novel is written by a man named Wolf. When he was 18, he became stranded on a mountain with 3 women. He is writing the story down for his son, who is now 18. Good so far :)
Lansens is a brilliant writer and has created more unforgettable characters - Wolf, Vonn, Bridget, and Nola. This story is moving, heart-stopping, enthralling, and brilliantly penned. It was a huge undertaking and she pulled it off.
Her writing never disappoints. This page-turner is filled with hope and resilience of the human spirit. I couldn't read it fast enough—I highly recommend it!
Well... now this is me. There were certain elements that I saw coming, but at no point did I find it predictable. Just a good, solid read. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I have dinner to make and a playlist to make and laundry to do. This is so good! Best one of the summer so far. Maybe the best one so far this year.
I love all of them. My TBR is close to half paperback and half hardcover. I read my KOBO sort of inconsistently but really enjoy ebooks as well. If it is a series, I do like to read them all in the same format. @BookishGirl06
My latest audiobook! Had a blast listening to this while driving the child around for nap time. This tale is a great story of survival, and the characters are just plain swell. #librarybook #audiobook
Emotionally difficult but very well written. I really liked "the girls" when I read it a few years ago so I had fairly high expectations of this one and it lived to them!
Opening line: "A person has to have lived a little to appreciate a survival story". And boy, is this a great one. Intertwining the past and present to create characters you really care about. Lansens describes the setting in a way that places the reader in the moment... for better or worse.
After bailing on THE HIKE, I've decided to start this book about 4 strangers who become lost in the wilderness and must rely on each other for survival. The hardcover original got good buzz.
Swept along by this book. If you're looking for an absorbing, emotional story, pick this. Wolf, Byrd, Nola, Bridget, Vonn...so many interesting characters. I can still "smell" Wolf's aunt's house.
A stack of new books to explore while relaxing this holiday.
This was a three star book for me. I found the premise of the book great but the delivery fell a little flat. The characters were a tad one dimensional with little or no development. Still a passable read.
The Mountain Story was my favorite book of 2015. It's a story of survival in every sense of the word. Immediately compelling, once I started I couldn't put it down. This book stayed with me for a long time after I finished reading it. Loss, regret, resiliency, love, family. All explored beautifully.
