This traditional literature book is written to white Anglo-European conventions and culture. I loved the theme of the book which is friendship and love, two very important things to have.

I would use this book in my future classroom over the course of a week or so as a read aloud book to the class. It is a book children would find interesting especially in a rural setting where farms are more prevalent

“Wilbur never forgot Charlotte. Although he loved her children and grandchildren dearly, none of the new spiders ever quite took her place in his heart. She was in a class herself. It is not often someone comes along who is a true friend and a great writer. Charlotte was both.“

I would use this in my classroom because the students would engage in the fantasy elements and stay engaged through the talking animals.

This is a modern fantasy because the animals in the story are able to talk. It is logical and consistent with the framework. It still has some truth and real places to keep the reader invested to seem like it is real.

Another one of my all time childhood favorites. “Charlottes Web“ by: E.B. White is another TL book that has been reprised time & time again. This wonderfully memorable novel is about a little girl who falls in love with a runt that she names Wilbur, who was not wanted by her father. In time, he grabs the attention & affection of many others along the way including a sweet spider named Charlotte. A definite must read for all ages. #UCFLAE3414F19

DrSpalding Your passion for books is truly inspiring! Nice job aligning universal design and English learner strategies and I agree, they should be in all classroom library‘s. It would make for an excellent literature circle option along with the read aloud. 2mo

“Charlotte‘s Web” by E.B White is a classic F book that tells the story of a pig‘s beautiful relationship with a spider who does all in her power to save him from being slaughtered. This Newberry award winning book makes a great IR for elementary students. #UCFLAE3414F19

abbie-cadabbie The lesson plan I chose is great because it allows the students to learn about character, setting, and story events. It also teaches word analysis skills and how to identify plural and singular nouns, synonyms, prefixes, and word meanings. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/unit-plans/teaching-content/charlottes-web-t... 2mo
abbie-cadabbie The UDL strategy I chose is to clarify vocabulary and symbols (2.1) because of its relevance to the lesson plan. The ESOL strategy I chose is to teach technical vocabulary supporting key concepts (5) 2mo
DrSpalding This is a classic fantasy title that could be used for independent reading but also would be an excellent option for a read aloud or literature circle because it causes a lot of conversation! 1mo

I adored this book as a child. More than a few *ahem* decades later, I still find the story just as touching & wonderful. It is a beautiful story of friendship & love. I very much appreciate White's tendency to mix in more complicated words, allowing Charlotte to provide a definition. The narrative is bright & complete, with vivid descriptions & inclusion of the realities of life. Charlotte's Web remains one of my favorite books of all time.

This Modern Fantasy book, I read all of. It is considered modern fantasy because the animals have human abilities and has a believable plot. This book is about a pig named Wilber, who was supposed to be slaughtered and was saved by a little girl. Wilber meets a spider, who he connects with named Charlotte.

I would implement this book into my classroom as a read aloud chapter book, and use the daily readings in my ELA lesson plan with writing prompts. This would be perfect for third or forth grade.

Charlotte‘s Web by E.B White, 1952. I remember watching the movie when I was younger but never read the book. It was a really good book. I like the message that the books brings. Wilbur was the runt of his litter and thought is destiny was to be slaughtered. With the help of Fern Arable and a spider, Charlotte his destiny is changed.

Read the Full Book- This book was an amazing read. This book deals with the theme of death and change and explains it in ways children can understand. Some of the fantasy elements that are in the book are that the animals can talk and the spider can weave words into its web.

This modern fantasy book contains lots of aspects that make it quite believable and then also contains a character that might show the disbelief we carry to make it fiction. Its an animal fantasy that brings things like pigs and spiders to life, and gives an enjoyable theme or life lesson throughout all of it. We get the value of friendship, and the devotion and sacrifice people can hold for others.
