Love & Gelato (Reprint)
Love & Gelato (Reprint) | Jenna Evans Welch
A New York Times bestseller A summer in Italy turns into a road trip across Tuscany in this sweeping debut novel filled with romance, mystery, and adventure. Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn't in the mood for Italy's famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She's only there because it was her mother's dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn't around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home. But then Lina is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina's uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother's footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It's a secret that will change everything Lina knew about her mother, her father--and even herself. People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more. Kirkus Reviews called Love & Gelato "a sure bet for fans of romance fiction," while VOYA said readers "will find it difficult to put this book down." Readers are about to discover a new place, a new romance, and a new talent.

I am not normally into this type of book but it was great!
Couldn't put it down when I started!! Will say I'm more into her father figure than her love interest but I think that's just because I‘m totally into older men LOL

It was a cute story though! It definitely hit close for me because I had a similar experience with my mom

The gym is where I get the most reading in!
Not normally into all the sappy romance novels but I do love gelato and I‘m learning Italian maybe this will keep me motivated to learn
And hey!! Barnes and noble had it on sale so I couldn‘t resist today 😂
Fingers crossed it will actually be good 🤞🤞🤞

This was well done, but teen romances just aren‘t for me. In the book, the main character is living in Italy for the summer, reading her late mother‘s journal, trying to uncover the mystery of who her father is. I was frustrated, though, because she kept stopping reading the journal to go on side quests to figure it out, except if she stopped doing that and just finished reading the journal, she wouldn‘t have to in the first place!! 🙄

After reading the book, I was looking forward to watching the movie on Netflix. And...

What?! What did they do to the book?!
I am so disappointed with this movie!
Has anyone seen the movie and read the book?

AshRaye I read the book and wanted to watch the movie, but then I heard it was completely different... Is it really that bad? Should I skip watching it? 2y
vonnie862 @AshRaye The movie is okay but if you really love the book, skip the movie. 2y

This was a sweet book. After the death of her mother, Lina is encouraged to live in Italy for a bit.

I enjoyed her journey of self discovery and I was really happy with the ending. Now, things would have been answered sooner if she had the guts to talk to Howard from the beginning and finished reading her mom's journal first.

4⭐️.

Turns out there's a reason they call it falling in love, because when it happens - really happens - that's exactly how it feels. There's no doing or trying, you just let go and hope that someone's going to be there to catch you.

This was recommended to me by my friend‘s daughter, & I think it‘s a sweet YA story. It‘s a little silly that the author assumes the MC (& readers) doesn‘t know what prosciutto, cannolis, & gelato are, but I‘ll forgive that. Lina‘s mom dies & makes her promise to visit an old friend in Florence. Of course, there‘s a ya romance, but the story has substance due to grief & her mother‘s backstory. More books in series are set in different countries.

The descriptions in this book are just stunning, and the mystery of Lina's mom's journal keeps you hooked. Every so often, Lina and Ren feel a little too squeaky-clean to be 16/17, but it's not detrimental overall. #yaromance #yalit #reread

This was sweet even though I don‘t believe for a minute a hs student traveling in a foreign country while mourning the death of her mother would savor the surprise gift of her mother‘s journal over time vs devouring in one sitting - esp when said journal contains the answers to unasked and unanswered questions she is actively trying to solve. …Also, props to any book that gives me an excuse to purchase gelato! ↓

marleed Funny, on the Eve of reading this book, I saw it was developed into a Netflix movie. I think it‘s the first time I finished a book and then watched the movie an hour later. The adaption retained the essence of the book but made a pile of other changes - including my issue with the journal. 2y

Finished this audiobook on Thursday. I've been hearing great things about this for so long now and finally got around to it. It was really good. I loved the characters. Lena travels to Italy to stay with a father she has only just found out about. She doesn't know what to make of it. She finds out about a journal her mother sent and starts on a journey of discovery while reading of her mother's life in Italy with her new friend Ren. ❤

Italy is one of my all-time favorite travel spots in the world. I got this book solely to feel the nostalgia of when I used to travel there. The setting of this book is excellent, you could easily tell it was set in Italy and what I did enjoy is that it wasn't just filled with Italian stereotypes. The love story is cute, but it's not something that you haven't already read. Overall it's a cute book that has captured the essence of Italy

An enjoyable 4🌟 contemporary YA. When 16 year old Lina's mother dies, she goes to Italy to spend the summer with her estranged father Howard, an American expat, living & working in a WWII cemetery. She's a little bratty at first but she slowly starts to warm up to the idea that she's in Italy. Guided by her mother's journal from her own time spent in Florence, Lina learns what happened 17 years ago & why Lina's is here now with a dad ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick ⬆️ she only recently heard about. My main gripes were that Lina is a bit clueless to hints in the journal about her mom's life & there weren't many "fish out of water" experiences with Lina not being familiar with Italian. She's surrounded by English speakers in a village outside of Florence. Howard & the assistant cemetery caretaker Sonia were cute adults here that have Lina suppose to adapt to her new situation. 4y
