This was a sweet, diverting read. It‘s not particularly organized, but it‘s not really meant to be. Goes to show that everyone has ups and downs, and has to choose how we will handle them. I love reading about how devoted she was to her family.
That was a very enjoyable read. Julie Andrews certainly accomplished a lot in her Hollywood years, both professionally and personally. My only complaints are that years are infrequently mentioned, so I started to feel a little lost. She was a very dedicated diarist, and it‘s clear most of this book came from her journals. Despite the challenges she faced in her life, she maintained a positive, loving attitude (along with great singing!)
I loved this 2nd memoir by Julie Andrews focusing on her years in Hollywood and raising her family. Especially loved the first part about the filming of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.
I adore Julie Andrews and listening to her narrate this book was delightful.
My favorite sections involved her early Hollywood career about Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. I loved how open and honest she was about both her professional and personal life. She discusses her battles with depression as well as talking about others in her family battling mental illness.
Andrews is very humble about her success which made me love her more.

This is a very long audiobook and it took me an extraordinary long time to get through it for reasons like a family vacation putting it on pause. I thought I would know more of the people she referenced. The same was true when I listened to the Carol Burnett memoir. I gave it four stars.
Interesting but not enough!! Will she write another for the decades of performing that she hasn‘t covered yet? What a life!!

Read by Julie Andrews, she discusses her life during the Hollywood years, which started with Mary Poppins. She discusses marriage, both the ending of one and the start of another, raising children, figuring out where she can live with visas and residencies, and how she came to write some children's stories. I really enjoyed the book, and listening to her read it was lovely.

I solidly enjoyed all the stories and details about her career, family dynamics, relationships bonding and obligations, and more. The moments and journal shared about her and Blake Edwards are heartwarming, honest, and real.
It felt bit unfinished thou, so guess there will be another book from her later?
Just finished this delightful memoir by the iconic actress and singer Julie Andrews. What fun to go behind the scenes during the filming of Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and her later movie projects with husband Blake Edwards. (I had no idea Julie did that many with Blake.) Plus I loved hearing the stories that inspired her to write her wonderful children‘s books. 🥰🙌🏻
Slowly inching my way to a possible #BookSpinBingo🤪

So soothing a voice as Ms Andrews to listen to her audiobook. Nice respite from everyday chaos
I have always loved watching this lady on screen. To listen to her narrate her memoir was wonderful.
Oh Julie Andrews is lovely. I listened to this as an audio book and thought it was excellent. Her dedication to her family was evident and I liked this book more than I thought I would (I'm new to memoirs) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love Julie Andrews so, so much! She‘s tied with Angela Lansbury for my favorite actress. #memoirmonday #magnificentmarch @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620
Another wonderful book to listen to. I really had no idea what all Julie Andrews has done and been through. I hope she writes another because I know there is still more to learn if she is willing to share. She wrote this one with her daughter so I‘m using for #parent&childmemoir for #booked2020

Love Julie Andrews so much. But how did she (and all of these other old school Hollywood celebs for that matter) think her kids were going to have a comprehensive education when they went to a new school every 3 months? #beenwonderingthisforawhile #hollywoodiswild
My two favorite women of show business: Julie Andrews and Moira Rose! #nobusinesslikeshowbusiness #FebruaryVacation #teachersofLitsy #nowreading
I love this lady and I loved this book. If you enjoy her films this is a must read
Between a pick and a so-so. Andrews definitely had some trials in her life and I liked that she was so upfront about her husband dealing with mental illness, but a lot of the other stuff felt drawn out. It was also hard to relate as it‘s a portrait in how the other half lives (to buy or not to buy a yacht). However I felt it was an honest look into Andrews‘ life. I also realized I knew very little of the movies she starred in.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
A memoir of her Hollywood years and the making of movies, mary poppins and the sound of music, in detail. The lack of health and safety control on location was eye opening. The logistics of filming in erratic conditions shows a very unglamorous and often tough side of the film industry. She tells of a complex family life and is honest about how hard it was at times to manage it all. Well written and enjoyable.
My first library trip of the year! I picked up a few of my holds and stopped to take a picture because it was so nice out!
Top to Bottom:
-Would Like to Meet by Rachel Winters
-The Grace Year by Kim Ligget
-Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
-The Dead Queens Club by Hannah Capin
-Home Work by Julie Andrews
2: Julie Andrews has had a surprisingly difficult life, but I don't feel closer to understanding her after reading this memoir about her adult life. She states facts and details on a surface level, but SHE doesn't shine through her account. I don't think I will bother reading her first memoir.
While I really liked her first memoir, which (I remember) was warm and felt like a friendly chat, I found this one stiff and breathlessly glib. Since it was coauthored with her daughter Emma, it was also uncomfortable anytime the baby or child Emma was mentioned - often she felt like an add-on - as if she had to remind her mom to mention how cute she was. Still, good behind the scenes of a favorite star.
I don't think the book will get any better than this hysterical moment. 😂😂😂Can you imagine?!? 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Julie Andrews talks about her life and work in the early years of Hollywood. So much fun. Andrews is a kind and funny person.
Who knew being at work would actually increase my time so much?! 🤣 I‘ve finished Home Work and Christmas in the City which were my only illusion at goals. I have a Stephanie Plum Book from the library. Might as well start that as they never take long.

End of day 3 for me. I started Problem Child by Victoria Helen Stone but only got a few pages in.

I haven‘t read the first of Julie Andrews‘ memoirs and I think I‘d like to now. This book gives a quick summary of her early life before jumping in to her career-making role as Mary Poppins. The book is very detailed thanks to her diaries. It was refreshing to read about a movie star with difficulties (family, love, career) but no major scandals! Finished yesterday for #24B42020
Not too much read today for #24B42020 but I‘m okay with that.
I just got back from my Christmas trip home so I decided to hop into #24B42020 since I‘m reading anyway! I‘m reading the tagged book so I can return it to the library before it is overdue.
Spending some time with Julie Andrews while everyone else in my house takes naps. (As shown by my cat, Kate)
I can read and listen to Julie talk forever.
She writes with such love and elegance.
4 stars
I both read and listened to her story and I definitely recommend both formats. The physical book includes wonderful photos from her life and films and the audiobook is narrated by her. There‘s nothing quite like having Julie Andrews read to you.

What a treat! I can only hope that when I‘m in my 80s I have the grace and humility to look back at the people and events of my adulting life with the wisdom exampled by Julie Andrews.
Celebrity memoirs ~ yay or nay?
I love all kinds of memoirs, including celebrity memoirs, especially when the celebrity is someone I grew up admiring.
I love Julie Andrews and I am so glad we were able to pick up her new memoir, Home Work, from The Dog Eared Book over the weekend. While I have her first memoir as well, I did not know it existed until I found out that the about the new one over the summer!
I hadn‘t heard about this yet! So exciting! ❤️
