There wasn‘t anything I didn‘t like about this mystery/thriller by @ChrisBohjalian . Believable plot, realistic dialogue, well-developed characters and excellent scenic descriptions brought to life by Rebecca Lowman‘s narration.

Oh this is the things my nightmares would be made of if I were to experience nightmares: 1. visiting a foreign country with a traveling companion and said companion mysteriously dies, 2. Rats. … I see on on GR this was published on 17Mar20. Holy #**, I‘m glad I didn‘t preorder this because it would have furthered the fears of my March 2020 pandemic-anxious self!

I am really liking this so far. The narration is done well, too.

My library request for #ReadingAsia21 FINALLY came through 😜😂😜😂which is pretty serendipitous for #AAM 🎧❣️
Entertaining and I liked the ER doctor. Some things were far-fetched and they didn't really earn their discoveries...a lot depended on her experience as an ER doctor explaining how she can deduce so much.
Rather than walk upstairs to get the book I was reading, I just started another one.
This story started strong and ended strong but lost something in between. Several of the questions which drove the story were never answered and I'd like to have those answers. And, once again, none of the charactors was particularly likeable and I'm getting tired of reading books about people I can't really connect to. Bottom line: this was fine but, for such an interesting premise, it should have been a lot better than fine.
Travel is different in a pandemic. Books help. Just sayin'.
Shamelessly exploiting my Jesse to announce that today is the on-sale date for THE RED LOTUS paperback. I learned this dog pose from Pamela Klinger-Horn. Yes, I do have cheese on my head. You can find the thriller that People Magazine called “tense and timely” wherever books are sold.
Thrilled to reveal the new paperback cover of THE RED LOTUS. The novel that the New York Times called "terrific. . .[an] elegant noose of a plot," arrives in paperback on January 5, 2021. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3odiRb3.
My reading habits and tastes have been pretty particular during the pandemic. This one definitely hits my current reading vibes!

"Got to be ready for the next pandemic. Got to have new antibiotics. Got to know what we're up against. I mean, it's coming, and New York City is the perfect place for a catastrophe: we have lots of people living in very close quarters."
This book was written BEFORE the coronavirus pandemic, and it feels very eerie and chilling to read such an ominous statement now! ????
Roxas thinks it's spooky too! #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #roxas
While technically good, I found it hard to care about this one.
Okay I need to also listen to a “lighter” audiobook (like not as science dense as 3 body,) so I‘m going to listen to a few hours of this today too.
Big news! Thrilled to announce that THE RED LOTUS TV series is now in development. Among the team? The brilliant minds behind A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES, POSE, and VIKINGS. Deepest thanks to Sherry Marsh, Julie Gardner, and Kate Brooke! Hoping all enjoyed the novel!
This book started off pretty slow, however the back-half really picked up. I did not realize how relevant this book feels with what is going on today in the world.
Continuing right along with my attempts at jewelry making. Today I decided to attempt a lava bead diffuser bracelet. This particular bracelet design is inspired by the tagged book. After finishing my bracelet, I placed a few drops of some stress recovery essential oil onto the lava beads. #bookinspiredjewelry

Published at the freakiest of times, adding to the "un-put-down-able-ness" effect this book had on me due to current events. Is that even a word? Anyway, won't be a favorite of the year but humanizes how pandemics occur and spread.
Our discussion of The Red Lotus by Chris Bohjalian has been postponed until next Sunday at 2pm. See you then!
On the Litsy Book Club discussion of “The Red Lotus”, of course you wear your Red Lotus tshirt from Chris Bohjalian! Wonderful, amazing must read book and I am looking forward to the discussion this afternoon! #booknerd #alwaysloved books
I‘ve been alternating reading and listening to this great book. One good thing about Life During the Coronavirus is that I finally have time to sit down and try to tackle this stocking for my grandson. It‘s so big it‘ll take me two years! I have three other grandchildren now! LOL ♥️🤶🏻🎅🏻♥️

New month, new book! We hope that you will join us in reading “The Red Lotus” by Chris Bohjalian this month. Questions? Ask @Bookworm83 or @Graciouswarriorprincess .
I listened to this for the @litsybookclub and although it‘s not a book I would have picked up on my own, I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the little details about being an ER doctor. Once I got into the middle of the story, I wanted to just keep listening. There were a few things that either were not addressed quite as quickly as I expected or worked out a bit too conveniently, but overall a good read. 🐀 🐀

The Red Lotus is the first book I‘ve read by Chris Bohjalian, but it won‘t be my last. I wasn‘t expecting to read about a potential pandemic while in the midst of a very real pandemic, but I still enjoyed it. I think the timing of publication is unfortunate, as I‘m sure many readers who want an escape from the world will be disappointed in the direction this book takes. I listened to the audiobook, which I would definitely recommend! 3.5 ⭐️
I‘ve seen a couple of casual references to pandemics since this all started, but this one really made me stop in my tracks... 😔🦠
1. The Red Lotus by @ChrisBohjalian . I am rereading it but doing the audiobook version this time.
2. Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore and Conjure Women by Aida Arakora.
3. I can‘t chose just one as I read all three versions of books.

I loved this book because it had it all: I learnt a lot about ER docs, it was full of suspense and dread, interesting characters and plot and as always a great unexpected ending. I couldn‘t put it down. It will be a book that you‘ll think about long after you finished it! Highly recommend!
Thank you @ChrisBohjalian for “The Red Lotus” tshirt, bookmark and pin! This book is a must read thriller for these days! Please support your local independent bookstore and buy your copy there.
While there were details I found a bit too convenient, I still really enjoyed The Red Lotus.
About an ER Dr who takes a bike tour trip to Vietnam with her boyfriend. When something terrible happens to him there, she finds he was hiding things from her.
While some might be put off by the pandemic aspect of the story, it is different enough from our current reality that I wasn‘t bothered by it.
Great storytelling as usual from CB!
I‘m starting my #24B4Monday from my couch in Texas instead of on a train from London to Wales for the #LitsyReadingRetreat. 😢
It‘s ok though. Tea and Blueberries for breakfast, a walk when the sun comes up, a Zoom meetup with retreaters this afternoon, and a G hangout bookclub meeting tonight. It‘s going to be a nice day.
Review is up on my blog. This is a slow burn! https://reecaspieces.com/2020/03/23/the-red-lotus-by-chris-bohjalian-chrisbohjal...
What I'm reading now!! I reallybloke Bohjalian books. I haven't heard too much about this one though.
Book People in Austin is closed, but they‘re shipping orders for free! I didn‘t even know I was getting a signed copy of @ChrisBohjalian ‘s new book until it arrived 🤗.
I‘ve heard The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse is uplifting. Looking forward to it, because who doesn‘t need that right now!
Finished my first book for #stayhome24in48. Not the best book to read during this social isolation but I didn‘t know.
I am up early because of this cone head. She is sooo dramatic! As you can see, she is perfectly fine now. #24in48 #24in48readathon #hubbysdog #butheisasleep
Talk about a timely read! Just in, Bohjalian‘s latest book- another literary thriller in the same vein as The Flight Attendant- involves a biking trip to Vietnam, rats and a plague-inducing pathogen! It‘s a bit slow to start, but across multiple narrators, the book progresses into an alarming and entertaining read! #AuthorOnLitsy #ReadWithMrBook @MrBook

In Bohjalian‘s latest book, ER Doctor Alexis travels to Vietnam with her boyfriend Austin. After he goes missing and then is later found dead, Alexis is left with more questions than answers. “The Red Lotus” releases next Tuesday March 17th.
