#2022Book52
I liked this book so much more than the first in the series. We get to know more about the characters and their motivations, and the main character never falls into the damsel-in-distress nonsense like so many other YA fantasy heroines. There was also something at the end that actually made me gasp out loud, and I love when a book can surprise me.

I could go on and on about how great the writing and story is, that I love the characters but the truth, I say in 4 words; I AM NOT OKAY. The ending is brutal and it will take me a while to get over. Having said that, next read; Hero at the Fall. The next in the series. Wish me luck! 😅 I give it: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Wrapped this one up last night. As expected it wasn‘t as good as the first one, but that‘s pretty normal. I got bogged down in the middle, but after taking a break, managed to persevere through to the end. It‘s pretty realistic though, because the heroine spends a lot of time wishing things were more simple like they used to be. Welcome to adulthood girly! I‘ll probably start the third one soon. ⭐️⭐️

This installment was pretty tame compared to the first one. I found myself losing interest until about 60% of the way through, where it really picked up and was a lot of fun! All in all, I would say a pretty decent sequel.

Book 2 of the Rebel of the Sand novel. I loved the first one because of the interaction between the two main characters, Amani and Jin. This book separates them so it lost that magic for me. Still it was a good romp. Mostly set in the sultan's palace and the treacherous harem. Old characters come back, new characters introduced, and djinnis.

So I read Rebel of The Sands and Hero of The fall these last few days and to be honest at the beginning I didn‘t find it that good but the second one really upped the level with twists and turns ! I love the setting with the Middle Eastern vibe. I grew up with stories of Djinns so it was really fun reading a fantasy in that world. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I enjoyed this series. 4y
Slym @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I like it too so far ! I still have the third to read though 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This book was such a fun ride! Hamilton really dug into her world & showed us so many more facets and layers to what she‘s created. The plot was super intriguing & I also really appreciate in this the non-annoying pervasiveness of the love story. It‘s important, but it‘s not The Most Important Thing, and that‘s refreshing for a teen series. I‘m so looking forward to book 3 and how everything will wrap up - and the journey along the way!

I found this one much more enjoyable than the first book. There was a lot more intrigue, and I found the new characters, as well as the downplay of the romance aspect refreshing and interesting.

This is the second book in this awesome YA trilogy with desert setting and Arabic mythology. It reminds me of City of Brass, but imo this is even better. #nightoriented #Booked2019 @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

The Blue Eyed Bandit is thrust in the middle of a political regime as she's captured and made to live in the sultan's palace among the women (daughters, wives, and concubines). She becomes confused about the sultan's ambitions as she strives to learn more about his political goals and ultimately find a way out. A wonderful inspiration for world building, and an action packed story with magical characters.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)

I liked this book more than its predecessor, “Rebel in the Sands”. I was pulled back into the adventure from the very beginning, and let me just say that there are SO MANY plot twists. I‘m definitely going to miss the character that died heroically at the end, and I can‘t wait to see what happens next. The only part I didn‘t enjoy was how Amani forgave Jin way too easily. Anyway, onto “Hero at the Fall”!

I loved this second book!!! Amani is such a great and badass main character and she has shown in this book how strong she is. I am glad I finally met the villain of the story and though he's not brilliant, he's a good villain, evil enough 😂 the plot does not have much action but I found it very interesting and I really liked to see the life inside the palace🤔 AND I NEED TO READ HERO AT THE FALL RN! The end of Traitor to the Throne shocked me😂

While I had mixed feelings about the first book, the author managed to find her own style. I especially the setting and the absence of a love triangle. A duck got killed, though :(

This book is so much better than the first. There was many times I gasped and I almost screamed at the ending. Very good and I cannot wait for book 3! Alwyn did a great job with not being afraid of killing people off in the book and creating many twists. Rating: 5/5

Found the prettier (to me) cover to screenshot! @Coco I am interested to hear your thoughts! I called the major ending twist before it happened (I think her foreshadowing may have gone a tad overboard) but was surprised by one of the reveals near the end and really enjoyed more time in this world with the characters, although there were some relationship issues that got swept over. Definitely on board to read the next one! #litsyAtoZ letter T

Coco Ahhh yes!! Ok up, Omg so Hala?! She is so bad a** & I think she‘s gonna be a huge character in the next book to avenge Imin! She really grew on me this novel! What did u think of her, or who was ur favorite character? 6y
Coco I didn‘t really like Amani and Jins relationship in this book. I love them so much more when they are together & felt the romance part of the story was missing big time for me. I kinda wanted her and Rahim to maybe hit it off at the palace and get a bit of a love triangle going lol! And any theories to Amani‘s MIA brother? 6y
ElyssaReads @Coco yes I loved how Hala helped Amani get the metal out and avoid the pain. I think we'll see a lot of her in the next one too! Other than Amani, I liked Sam and Rahim in this one and Shazad. Love the twins too! 6y
See All 8 Comments
ElyssaReads @Coco yes! That was the relationship problem I was referring to. The whole abandoning her as she is possibly dying didn't sit well with me. Or when he sort of offered to marry her just to keep her from marrying the commander guy. I didn't like much about his character in this one at all. I'm all for her falling for Rahim and setting up the love triangle! 6y
ElyssaReads @Coco I hope he blows up the palace in the third one. He's got to be coming back. I'm also interested in what will happen to all the trapped Djinn in the last one. 6y
Coco Yes Sam grew on me too! Shazad has been a favorite since book one, I love her! Right! (Jin leaving). I hoped she‘d come in strong with their story towards the second half of the book but what did all go down with them was just disappointing! Heck I wouldn‘t even mind a love triangle with Ahmed! Lol I felt like he and Amani were connecting a little at the beginning once he revealed that Jin had ran off! 6y
Coco Yeah! I‘m so intrigued to what he‘s been “up to” since they didn‘t mention his activity at all in this one! I know most 2nd books in series are builders for the story so I‘m setting high hopes for Book 3! Yes I liked the addition of the Djinn in this book & curious to how that plays out! (edited) 6y

As w/ most series, Book1 was more favored in my opinion. The meat of this book took me a while to get thru &picked up towards the end. I loved Jin &Amani‘s relationship in Rebel of the Sands, but Traitor to the Throne left me wanting. I will say the ending was a shocker & left me💔! I think the last few chapters were the best of the entire book. Which leaves me hopeful that Book3 will be better. Who else has read this series? Thoughts? #bookreview

MarriedtoMrT I loved book one and own book two but I‘m waiting to read it until the third book is out. I‘m always worried about series where I had such strong feelings for the first book. I don‘t want to ruin them with crappy follow ups. 6y
Coco A few more thoughts I had... Hala is now a new favorite character of mine & absolutely loved how her and Amani are bonding & interested to see her take revenge for Imin, bc u know she will!! Also I kinda wish that Rahim & Amani would have bonded a bit more during her time in the harem to create a bit of a love triangle and friction. I just feel like her and Jins relationship is unfulfilling currently 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Coco @MarriedtoMrT I think waiting for the 3rd installment would be a good idea bc now I‘m itching to know what happens next!! I feel like Book2s always struggle the most in every series, but I haven‘t lost hope in Book 3! (PS don‘t read my spoiler comment above lol) 6y

Ok I‘m about 150 pages into this one & moving at a steady rate!! Any other fans of this series? Curious to others People‘s review of this book compared to Book 1 (Rebel of the Sands)? I will say I thought book 1s Cover was more beautiful!

398.2 I agree about the cover. I haven‘t read this one yet. 6y
MarriedtoMrT I‘m holding out until closer to the release of the third book to really this one. Also, I bought the UK edition (and will for the third) because those covers are much prettier. I wish they had stuck with the original theme! 6y

Through the book‘s main conflict, Amani realizes that names have the power to trap and destroy, just as they have the power to reinvent and release and reshape. Characters, no matter how seemingly insignificant, come to life with well fleshed-out motivations in the face of war and survival.
