Garlic and the Witch
Garlic and the Witch | Bree Paulsen
22 posts | 26 read | 7 to read
Bree Paulsens brave little protagonist, Garlic, is back in this charmingly illustrated standalone companion to Garlic and the Vampire, serving up another tale of friendship, magic, and self-discovery. Give both books to readers who fell in love with Tidesong or Witch Boy! Garlic loves spending time with Witch Agnes, Carrot, and her new friend, the Count, who has proven to be a delightful neighbor to the village of vegetable people rather than a scary vampire. But despite Agness best attempts to home-brew a vegetarian blood substitute for Count, the ingredient she needs most can only be found at the Magic Market, far from the valley. Before she knows it, with a broomstick in hand, Garlic is nervously preparing for a journey. But Garlic is experiencing another change toofinger by finger, she appears to be turning human. Witch Agnes assures her that this is normal for her garden magic, but Garlic isnt so sure that shes ready for such a big change. After all, changes are scaryand what if she doesnt want to be human after all?

Sweet. Garlic finds herself grappling with a big change - she may be turning human! - and on an adventure with her friend the Count.
The first resonated more for me. This one felt a little more on-the-nose about puberty.

As so many people have said before me, this book was so freaking CUTE, if not cuter than the first. This duology is the most adorable series about believing in yourself, embracing change, and being open to adventure. It's a super quick read and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Okay I didn't think it was possible but this was even cuter than the first book! Garlic goes on a new adventure away from her little village and internally struggles with the changes that are happening to her and her vegetable friends. I loved seeing anxious Garlic come into her own! I hope this series continues 🧄❤️

I was really looking forward to the second part of Garlic but somehow I ended up not liking very mich. The backstory of why the witch has vegetable friends could have been used as a flashback but was put at the beginning without any further explanation. And the coming off age story was a nice idea but tells me there won‘t be any other Garlic stories

Somehow this scene in the dark forrest is reminding me of The Lord of the Rings. I am expecting the trees to wake up on the next page. 😱

So wholesome. Just like pure sunshine, it encourages growth and leaves you with a warm feeling. Love the message, love the art, love the many moments it takes just to be adorable, accepting. I sincerely hope there's another entry focusing on Celery's journey.

Such a cute graphic novel for middle graders. Just like with the first book in the series, Garlic goes on a little adventure where she has to overcome her fears.

Loved this cozy fantasy graphic novel - Garlic is still an anxious over thinker with a kind heart - and in this volume she goes on an adventure with the Count to the Magic Market - and comes to realise that change isn‘t all scary.

Love the illustrations, love the vibe, love the randomness of a story about vegetables growing up to be human.

StaceyKondla I love this graphic novel! Garlic is so cute and such a relatable portrayal of anxiety for kids 1y

I didn‘t adore this one the same way I did with the first, but still an awesome read with fun art and a heartwarming vibe. #Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash @StayCurious #Spookoween2022 @TheSpineView #31by31 @Catsandbooks #PointsAThon @dieareader @GHABI4ROSES #OutstandingOctober @andrew65 #witchathon @mdm139
