I liked the concept of everything being flipped over on its head but some of the puns kind of made me roll my eyes a few times. I would‘ve had a solid 5 star read if that had been toned down a bit. Dot was absolutely infuriating in the beginning but she‘s supposed to be so you can see some actual character development. Kato was my favorite and combined with Dot actually maturing, it kept me engaged.
The beginning of this story starts out pretty light-hearted and then starts to escalate rather quickly and turns into a story you love.
At the beginning I was kind of cringing at Dorthea, she's a selfish brat who seems to only care for herself and doesn't think how her actions will affect others. She develops wonderfully through the book.
I do like Schow's writing and I think she is cunning with how she ties things together at the end.
Ok, @Klou ... I‘m going to attempt your challenge! It sounds fun and like a good way to add to my #TBR!

I enjoyed this fun retelling! Plus, the cover is so pretty!
#IfYouLikeThis #TheWizardOfOz
I started this #retelling of The Wizard Of Oz yesterday. I‘m halfway through and it‘s pretty fun! #anewchapter
Killing some time at Starbucks until it‘s time for s conference at my daughter‘s school. Starting this one for the #popsugarreadingchallenge!
Thank you so much @Avanders for my #thankfulforbooksswap package I love everything.
I know I have posted these before but they are the only ones I could think of with a #slipper on the cover.

First book I'm reading this month for my book club our theme this month is #Retellings #BookClub
I can not tell a lie. I bought these books because I wanted the shoes on the front. If I had my closet installed I would have taken this picture in my shoe closet but alas. #inhershoes #magicalmarch
Like I said, I love the references
This is so funny...I love puns and good cultural references
I remember why I enjoyed this book! The pun game is strong with this one. There's so many jokes and lots of banter and twists on our slang that are heavily influenced by fairytales. There are so many stories referenced in here!
It reminds me of Shrek. It's definitely YA but on the more middle grade end of the spectrum but there are some pretty adult jokes and references.
Really excited to pick up the sequel this week! 🤞
This was the first book I read after moving to Alberta about a year and a half ago. I'm heading to Edmonton for a work conference this week and I'm debating picking up the sequel...but I honestly forgot everything about this book beyond "Wizard of Oz spoof/retelling"
#shoesonthecover was easy. Trying to take the picture in my shoe closet was not so my pick is a little boring. #jubilantjuly
Because I'm just loving the #shoesoncovers today:
"She should know better than to mess with me in the middle of a shoe crisis, so I replied with the well-recognized dwarf hand sign telling her to heigh-ho herself off a cliff." ?
"“It‘s not really a party until a fight breaks out and all seven dwarfs are passed out underneath the punch bowl.” —Excerpt from “How to Have a Blast at Your Next Ball” in Fairy Vogue" ???
This was a cute retelling of our favorite childhood stories and fairytales perfect for young adult readers/fans.

"How rude! Who the Grimm was this peasant to judge me? I was wearing a Glenda original. Original! Not some fairy-godmother knockoff worn by those servant girls turned royal. I was a crown princess, for the love of fairy, and no one dismissed me." ???
Saturday I went to BN. I saw Wanted with its beautiful shoe that I want so bad (the shoes). The thought - hey I no longer have Spelled (lent it out before I ever read it) and I want Wanted.... they were In My hands and ready to go. But the line was blasted long. During my 20 minute wait I decided I had other things to do so I walked out. Stopped at Lowes, got some wood, and took care of some real shoes. It's not complexly done but it's a start.
#Spelled is a unique retelling of #TheWizardofOz, and while very cute it's a young YA novel and the writing just didn't grip me or impress me. The protagonist, Dorothea, becomes more self aware, but the internal dialogue is mostly teenage-retorts, seeming a little at odds with the gravity of the situation and her age. Would recommend for a younger teen who would likely relate more to Dorothea and the language #YA #fiction #clickyourheelsthreetimes
