Just finish this book yesterday and it was a great memoir. Shari is so brave for sharing her family‘s story. This book really shows that even through hardship you are able to come out a stronger person on the other side.

It started snowing here so it‘s time to get cozy and start this one!
I read an article in the UK press a few months ago about this family and, of course, I‘d seen a lot of reviews on here.
Shari is the eldest daughter of Ruby Franke, an LDS mommy vlogger who presented a perfect family life to the work when, in reality, she was mentally abusing her kids.
I‘m glad that Shari could tell her story, and also that she protected her younger siblings from the glare of social media and other publicity.
Goodness 😥 All I can say is that I hope that Ruby and Jodi never get parole. Major kudos to Shari for telling her story and speaking her truth. I‘m interested to watch the documentary on Hulu (drops February 27) - it‘s actually authorized by Kevin Franke, Shari, and her brother Chad.
“This nightmare was born on social media—it should die there, too.”
Literally one page in and I‘m already blown away.
Thanks to my current audiobook, I learned once again that there is a word for everything. Shari‘s story is riveting. Thankfully, I have enough of all the other types of guilt without adding this one 🤪🤦♀️😂 #weirdwordwednesday #weirdwords
An amazing and heartbreaking book about overcoming the traumas your parents inflict on you. #BOTM
Shari Franke‘s mother is the Utah mommy vlogger who made headlines for child abuse a few years ago. The vlog, 8 Passengers, used content from the family‘s lives, focusing heavily on the children, but Shari says they lived in fear of her mother, who was seldom loving and as the years passed increasingly strict with outrageous demands on the 6 children, including withholding food. I‘m glad Shari spoke out against mining content from children.
Starting this one next for our #Sharreadathon… I was surprised to see it on Everand so soon. I‘ll probably do a deep dive regarding this one online. So sad 😞
Well, my Everand only let me listen to a sample 😩 I‘ll circle back 👌🏻

I‘m a sucker for memoirs about evil mothers. I had an evil step-mother and that was bad enough. But this poor girl‘s mother was really unhinged. It‘s another example of how twisted a person can be by religious fundamentalism, patriarchal poo doo, and narcissism. All praise to Shari Franke for stopping the cycle of hurt people hurting people. #BOTM
It is terrible when parents use their children for fame and income from social media. Shari‘s mom led the family‘s popular YouTube channel and mined every family moment for content. Then her mother fell in with an aspiring Mormon cult leader around Shari‘s departure for college. Four of her siblings still lived at home through the nightmare of her mother‘s descent. (She‘s now in prison.) I respected Shari for leaving her minor sibs out of it, ⬇️
This memoir was a BOTM add-on. I didn‘t choose it but picked up the readily available audio. I‘ve never followed YouTube channels so never knew of the Franke family or the Vlog, 8 Passengers, until reading this book. I wish it were illegal to include minors in reality entertainment. Too often the reality of those minors is so different than what the audience sees. I hope Shari can make a difference for minor children living two realities.
