Went through my list & decided these are my #Bestof2023sofar books. @sblbooks The tagged was my first of the yr & still my favorite. I‘ve listened to some great audiobooks, but I love Tom Felton‘s voice & story, as well as the narrator & story of Convenience Store Woman. #midyearfaves

@sblbooks tagged me with #Bestof2023sofar and so I‘ve been trying to decide on my #midyearfaves. The above feels right but is of course subject to change. 😆

Tagging my two IRL friends @Tea_and_Starstuff and @MommyWantsToReadHerBook as well as my #AuldLangSpine match this year @Karisimo —what are your favorite 2023 reads so far?

sblbooks I stacked The Narrowboat Summer. 10mo
BarbaraJean @sblbooks Soooo good! I hope you enjoy it! 10mo
MommyWantsToReadHerBook Gosh, it's been such a strange reading year for me. I haven't read a blockbuster, have to tell everyone to read it kind of book but Thinner than skin was perhaps the most masterfully written. It looks like you've been reading some really lovely books lately! 10mo
BarbaraJean @MommyWantsToReadHerBook Oh, that sounds fascinating--I'll have to check it out. I stacked another book of hers to read, based on your recent review! 10mo

suvata @sblbooks I kind of forgot about this series. I started it several years ago and then just lost track. Thanks for reminding me that I should pick it up where I left off. 10mo
suvata @sblbooks I thought this one was great too. Much different than what I have expected. 10mo
suvata @sblbooks Agreed. This series is some of the best sci-fi that I‘ve had the pleasure of reading. 10mo
merelybookish Ah, Matilda is such a great book! 10mo
sblbooks @Hooked_on_books 😄 haha, thanks! 10mo
Scochrane26 I looked at my list the other day & already have 8-10 books that could be best of the year. I may post them later. 10mo
sblbooks @Scochrane26 I look forward to seeing it. 10mo
kspenmoll I like your idea of a halfway thru the year list- helps for the 12 month list to come! 10mo
BarbaraJean Oh, this is a great idea. I'll have to look at what my favorites are so far. I started a list recently, but I can't find it now!

And: I love Matilda!! That was the first book I remember being aware of as a new release. I was in 5th or 6th grade and I was so excited that my favorite author had a new book out!

I received your package @BarbaraBB Thank you for the thoughtful note. It really means a lot. I am looking forward to reading the book. I recall stacking it after being intrigued by you listing it as a selection for #midyearfaves Judging from the description I get slight Tana French vibes which definitely interests me! I hope to read it over my upcoming 5 day break.

Cinfhen Such a GREAT book!!! Duchess Day Outlaw Radley was my favorite female character this year🙌🏻 2y
vivastory @Cinfhen That's high praise! 2y
JamieArc I‘ll be reading this in January. I‘ve seen a lot of good things about it. 2y

vivastory @JamieArc Is it on your #NYWD list? I noticed it was on a few lists 2y
JamieArc @vivastory Yep! It is! 2y
vivastory @JamieArc I just looked at your list from @theludicreader & I really like the eclectic nature of it! I'll be curious to see what you think of Buehlman's book. I haven't read that one, but the following is one of my fave vampire novels (edited) 2y
JamieArc @vivastory Thanks for the rec! I haven‘t read Buehlman before but am really curious about The Lesser Dead. I‘m looking forward to making my way through her list throughout the year. 2y
BarbaraBB It‘s a great read and I hope you‘ll spend some good hours with it. 🤍 2y

I was inspired by some other littens to put together my favorite reads from January to June! What are everyone else‘s #midyearfaves??

AvidReader25 I love many of the books in this list, so I‘m curious about the Morton. I have read and loved all of her books, but I couldn‘t get through that one. Does the difficult to follow first half come together in the end? 3y
ICantImReading @AvidReader25 I actually had started that one in 2020 right before I had my daughter and had to put it down because my new mom brain couldn‘t handle it haha. So I restarted fresh in January and LOVED it! I thought the intricate puzzle came together so beautifully! It‘s one that you wouldn‘t want to rush through, one to savor that gives you a lot to think about... you‘ll have to let me know if you do decide to give it another try someday! 😊 3y
Twainy I‘ve read & enjoyed 3 of those!! Two are on my library hold list. I‘ve read 294 books. I narrowed it down to 36. I believe this will help with end of year favorites. 3y

ICantImReading @Twainy oh my goodness, that‘s AMAZING!! It must have been hard to narrow it down to 36 haha! Which are the 3 you have enjoyed? 😃 3y
Twainy Addie, Harper, Obama 😁🖤 3y
AvidReader25 @ICantImReading that‘s really good to know! I think I started it with new mom brain as well and I should give it another chance. 3y
ICantImReading @AvidReader25 I think the vibes make it a really good fall/winter read, if that helps! 🍂🙃 3y

Bless Me, Ultima | Rudolfo Anaya

Inspired by @vivastory & @BarbaraBB here are my #midyearfaves Only got it down to 12 so I‘ve done them in one collage.
I had trouble getting it down from 17! I‘ve read some amazing books this year. And it‘s surprising which books stick with you. I find it hard to explain the hold Memorial has on me for instance.
I think Bless Me Ultima is my leader for book of the year, thank you @Reggie for gifting it to me! ⬇️

Centique Child protagonists coming of age/family epics are one of my favourite things, add in a little spiritualism/magic and an environment and culture that is new to me and I‘m in book heaven. Loved it to bits. (edited) 3y
Centique And if anyone hasn‘t read Homegoing yet I highly recommend the audio read by Dominic Hoffman. Amazing 🤯 3y
vivastory What a wonderful list, Paula. Several favorites here! I plan on reading Summer Book soon. 3y

TrishB Have screenshot for a proper look 😁 3y
Ruthiella Interesting mix! Happy to see the Becky Chambers title! 😀 3y
Graywacke Great 6 months. Nervous Conditions is easily one of my favorites too (not sure I will post a list). And I loved Real Life. 3y
Centique @vivastory thank you Scott - the Summer Book is so unlike anything else. I just want to carry it round with me forever. 😍 3y
Centique @Ruthiella I‘m so mixed up with my book loves 😂😂 The Becky Chambers is just So Heart Warming and I really needed my heart warmed. I‘m going to have to reread that series soon just to give myself another dose of happy alien spaceship vibes. 3y
Centique @Graywacke I‘m so glad you loved Nervous Conditions too. I‘m looking forward to getting the next one. And Real Life - I can close my eyes and be back in that book in an instant it was so immersive. 😍 3y
Graywacke @Centique i just finished The Book of Not. Not everyone likes as much as NC, but I really enjoyed it. Real Life is so - it‘s all one thing, all of a moment and yet there is so much there‘. He wrote it in like 5 weeks. (Sorry for getting carried away here) (edited) 3y
Centique @Graywacke I‘m so glad you‘re passionate about it! That‘s so interesting that he wrote it so fast - it must have been burning inside him to get out 🙌🙌 3y
Graywacke @Centique fascinates me. I agree, he must have had it burning there. 3y
AutumnRLS I adore your edition of Homegoing. Such a beautiful cover! 3y
Centique @AutumnRLS I actually only have the audio of it so this is an image of the latest paperback edition (UK I think) 3y
BarbaraBB I loved some of your choices too (Homegoing, Memorial, The Summer Book, Remains of the Day) and I have Real life on my shelves. That it‘s a favorite of you and @Graywacke makes it a must-read for me! 3y
LeahBergen I must get to The Western Wind soon. 👍 3y
Cathythoughts Screenshot taken 👍🏻❤️ 3y
Reggie ❤️😁I‘m so glad you liked it. 3y
Gogobooks Thanks for great tips. Prairie Fires and Nervous Conditions also recent favorites! I ll def check out BMU. 3y
Suet624 So many good reads in your list. I wholeheartedly agree. You have also reminded me that I need to find a Barbara Pym book. I've never read any of her work. And apparently I've already stacked Bless Me, Ultima! (edited) 3y
Centique @Suet624 thank you Sue! I would start with Excellent Women by Pym, it‘s her most famous book and it‘s wonderful. This one has got the same wonderful writing style but it‘s very sad. 🥲 3y
Suet624 Thank you. I‘ll be sure to stack that one. 3y
ReadingEnvy I read Bless Me Ultima in school! 3y

BarbaraBB Great collage. I have taken a screenshot! 3y
KarenUK @BkClubCare They are fantastic…. And stand alone too, so don‘t need to be read in any order. I loved the novel Hot Milk by her, which led me to these 💕 3y

Migrations: A Novel | Charlotte McConaghy

#midyearfaves

I have been posting my 10 favorite books of the year so far - with a few thoughts on them.

Migrations is my absolute favorite. I endulged and devoured each page - I don‘t know the right words to describe what this book did to me. The characters, the atmosphere, the mystery, the love story, the state of the world, the writing: this book has it all.

Maike I wholeheartedly agree. It‘s just so beautiful. 3y
Cathythoughts Lovely review.. I have this book 👍🏻❤️ 3y
BarbaraBB @Cathythoughts I hope you‘ll get to it soon. I have a feeling you‘ll love it too. 3y

squirrelbrain I keep hearing great things about this book…. 3y
KarenUK Lovely review. I must read this soon 💕 3y
FelinesAndFelonies I loved this one so much too! One of my top five books this year. She is releasing a new book in August. I pre-ordered it. I hope it is as wonderful as Migrations was. 💙 3y
BarbaraBB @FelinesAndFelonies I know! I can‘t wait! Did you read @Cinfhen ‘s review of it? She thinks it‘s even better! 3y
Cinfhen I did @FelinesAndFelonies 🐾♥️ 3y
FelinesAndFelonies @BarbaraBB no, I hadn't but MORE than Migrations?! 😱 I'm squealing like a teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert! I am so excited for this one! @Cinfhen 3y
Megabooks I ended up really enjoying this. I‘m continuing to reflect before I write my review because I may upgrade it past 4⭐️. Fabulous book! 3y
BarbaraBB Oooh, exciting! I am glad you enjoyed it. It really grows on you I think. Can‘t wait to read your final verdict 🤍 3y
BiblioLitten I don‘t think I‘ll be able to stop thinking about this book for a long time. 2y
BarbaraBB @BiblioLitten I am still thinking of it. So good. The plot, the characters, the atmosphere, the dialogues. Have you read ? 2y
BiblioLitten @BarbaraBB No I haven‘t. But I will read it for sure. You know how she mentioned wolves in Migrations so many times, made me think of her next book. Have you? 2y
BarbaraBB Yes and it‘s almost just as good. You must read it! 2y

Pickpick

#midyearfaves #Day9 of 10
This lovely, melancholy, romantic novel wasn‘t on my radar at all until lovely Cindy raved about it. It‘s beautifully written, dreamy, full of solitude, and grief, and sadness but also hope. It feels very French in its vibe, and the translation is fantastic. I seem to have had success with anything I pick published by Europa (and I do love the French flaps and deckle edges!)🤷‍♀️

vivastory This has been high on my TBR. Definitely hope to read it soon 3y
squirrelbrain I have this bookmarked on Scribd, following yours and Cindy‘s reviews, but I do wonder if I should buy a hard copy….@cinfhen 3y
TrishB Wonderful read 😁 3y

Cathythoughts Nice review!! I have a lovely copy of this Fron my birthday from my friend @TrishB 👍🏻❤️ 3y
