Thank you everyone for your suggestions, nominations, and votes!

vlwelser 😍😍😍😍 3w
ncsufoxes I‘ve been behind on reading (I started March‘s book but haven‘t finished). Definitely excited about Stoneblind, I just finished 2 of her other books & loved them. I‘ve been slowly reading Unwell Women for a while, so definitely nice to have the motivation to finish it 3w

A Curious History of Sex by Kate Lister

The Butchering Art by Lindsey Fitzharris

Stiff by Mary Roach

Also see #YellowNFShelf 😁😁

dabbe Love Mary Roach! #s 1 and 2 on the TBR. Thanks for sharing! 💚💙💚 2mo
RaeLovesToRead Ooh! I have the sex one! I have quite a lot of sex ones to be fair haha 2mo
random_michelle Another Mary Roach fan!

I enjoyed Dr Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation which is about evolutionary biology.

monalyisha Not putting Mary Roach on my list hurt my heart a little. Glad (and not at all surprised) to see that she‘s being represented without me! 2mo

My end of the year #Nonfiction2023! Not a complete card, but boy some great books in there!

And I can see I‘m way WAY behind on reviews 😂. New Years Resolution, go back to reviewing right after I finish or I won‘t get back to it. 🤣

#Nonfiction2024 is here! And it‘s a big challenge this year.

First, these are not the books you need to read…although if you haven‘t read them, I encourage you to read them.

These are banned books, and they are banned for subject matter they contain that we find objectionable for some reason.

Your challenge is to read a nonfiction book about a similar subject:
Examples below⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ Harry Potter “promotes witchcraft”… maybe a nonfiction book about witches or Salem, too dark for you…maybe a book about Wiccan beliefs. Or go a different direction, a book with an orphan.
~ Reading about anything helps us understand and understanding & empathy diffuses fear.
⤵️
(edited) 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ So take these the way you want…a nonfiction about the core subject, or a tangential connection… not feeling like diving into the tough topics in some books… that‘s ok too….we all need a break from tough topics sometimes too. Maybe instead of diving into topics from Kafka on the Shore, an uplifting book about marine life. A book that includes the Shore, etc 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ Maus… you could go into the history it tries to impart, but if that‘s to heavy, maybe a great book about graphic novel writing, or a something about cats and/or mice. 4mo
See All 40 Comments
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ As always, your choice! Make it fun for you! Be as creative as you want with your choices…..And tag us as you go! (We all need more suggestions) (edited) 4mo
ChaoticMissAdventures This is a fabulous idea!! I didn't read as much nonfiction as I wanted in 2023 so I need this! 4mo
youneverarrived Amazing idea! 🖤 Looking forward to joining in! 4mo
Deblovestoread Challenge accepted! Love this! ❤️💚❤️ 4mo
AnneCecilie Love this idea. I see several books I haven‘t read and want to read, so I might take this challenge literal. 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AnneCecilie I‘m the same…for some I‘ll probably read the banned book and then a nonfiction book. And as few are non-fiction books, so they could count as themselves too. 😉 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @ChaoticMissAdventures @AnnCecilie @youneverarrived and @Deblovestoread Welcome! I try to come up with a theme and board each year. You can just go for bingo or we have a few over-achievers that go for coverall. It‘s all up to what works best for you. Enjoy and have fun with your choices! 4mo
Larkken Interesting! Saving to look into later. Thank you ☺️ 4mo
Singout Thank you! This looks like a really cool structure. And it‘s year five for me! 4mo
peanutnine Wow I love this concept! Excited to take part again in 2024! I read much more nonfiction this year and I'd like to continue. Thanks for putting this together ☺️ 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Singout & @peanutnine You‘re welcome! This year‘s theme came to me much easier than some years….but then again, it has been a year with a lot of new book banning. 🫤 (edited) 4mo
Amiable Oh, how I love this nonfiction bingo challenge! My brain is already in overdrive trying to think of matches. Thanks! 4mo
Zuhkeeyah I love this year‘s theme! 4mo
Zuhkeeyah Should I make a Storygraph challenge for this year‘s prompts? (It was helpful for me when tracking progress on this year‘s caustic theme.) 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Zuhkeeyah if you want to, you definitely can! I am not on Storygraph, but anywhere you want to share it is fine with me. 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Maybe I should check out Storygraph 4mo
willaful Great concept! I've was just thinking today that I really should listen to the audiobook of Born a Crime, so I'll probably do that one literally. 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @willaful That‘s fine too, a few are nonfiction so totally works. And that‘s a really good one. 4mo
willaful @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I read it in print and enjoyed it very much, and then my daughter's high school class listened to the audiobook and it sounded like so much fun, I've been meaning to do it. (I love that for today's kids!) 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @willaful He reads it himself, and being a comedian… he can make even tense things funny when he tells them. 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @willaful Not all books are good as audiobooks, but some like that one are even better because of the Narration. 4mo
kspenmoll Wow. I am proud that I have read all but 3 on the bingo board. It‘s hard to fathom these books are banned in places. Especially Florida… 3mo
CatLass007 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Will you please add me to your tag list? Is there a tag list? 3mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @CatLass007 I do not have a tag list, sorry. I just tag the #Nonfiction2024 and then anyone can search by it. 3mo
CatLass007 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Okay. Thanks. I thought that might be the case. It‘s very sad and more than a little bit scary that the number of banned books is even higher than the books on your Bingo card. 3mo
CatLass007 I‘ve had Born A Crime in my Audible library since not long after it was released. Sometimes I need a little extra incentive to listen to any given book. 3mo
CatLass007 You indicated in your post that there were examples of pairings, but I can‘t find the examples. 3mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @CatLass007 if you open the comments, they were like the first couple comments under the post 3mo
CatLass007 Thank you. For some reason I wasn‘t able to find them before and it took me a minute just now. 3mo
CatLass007 I feel like I‘m being a nuisance but I‘ve never done this challenge before. Or any challenge for that matter. I understand the challenge and I‘m very excited about it. But I have no idea how to put a picture of a book I‘ve read on the Bingo card. Make sense? Do you use an app like PicCollage? If that‘s the particular app I need to use, I‘m screwed, because I don‘t find it intuitive at all. Any advice you can provide would be appreciated. (cont)⬇️ 3mo
CatLass007 I hate to be one of those people who needs handholding to perform a task that others find as easy as pie. 3mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @CatLass007 You are fine! First rule, there are no bad questions! If we don‘t ask, we can‘t learn anything new. I take a screenshot of the book cover, usually on Goodreads, crop it as a photo so it‘s just the cover, then use a free app called GoDaddy Studio (formerly Over), that just lets me layer 1 picture overtop the other. I‘m sure there are many others that do the same. 3mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @CatLass007 and it‘s only easy as pie once you played with it once or twice. 3mo
CatLass007 Thank you. I appreciate your information and encouragement. 3mo

The Sum of Us: What racism costs everyone….I‘m using for the prompt: Strange Fruit. It is definitely a sanitized version of what that phrase originally stood for, and someday I will read The Red Record, but I think The Sum of Us Does a great job encapsulating so many unexpected and strange outcomes from the seeds we have sowed.

Repost for @Riveted_Reader_Melissa

A great challenge to read more non-fiction in 2023. The theme is music with a wide-ranging selection of titles. You can pick up on any word or theme in the prompt.

Please see original post for more info.

#Nonfiction2023 is here!
The inspiration this year is music 🎶

Have fun with these categories any way you want & again, low-key…could be the title/singer/theme…its up to you!

All About that Bass…could be about music, have a trainer in it, someone named Meghan, or be about self body acceptance. Big Yellow Taxi…could have a taxi, a yellow cover, be about the environment, or a Joni.

It‘s all up to you & as always I can‘t wait to see your choices!

rockpools These are really fun! 1y
AllDebooks This looks great, count me in x 1y

TheBookHippie Well my other nonfiction group fizzled so I‘m joining this if you‘ll take me 🤣😵‍💫😅. 1y
Amiable Hmmm. This one is really going to make me think! 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @TheBookHippie welcome aboard! This one is really low key and the best part is it‘s pick your own books to read, so you might clear some off your to-read list too (maybe… I usually see everyone else‘s picks and add to my list 🤫😂). 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @rockpools @AllDebooks I hope you have fun with it! 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Amiable Don‘t be intimidated by it or overthink it…read what you want and then see where you can fit it. 😉 1y
TheBookHippie @Riveted_Reader_Melissa This is ALWAYS the struggle!!! ALSO I have a SHELF of music books to read...... 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @TheBookHippie great opportunity to get to some of those! 1y
Deblovestoread Yay! I am so close to a 2022 blackout which is shocking. Thanks for helping me get into a bit of a nonfiction groove! 1y
Addison_Reads Thank you for doing this again this year. 1y
Librarybelle I‘m not the greatest at following through with challenges - including my own - but I love the inspiration for the themes! I‘m going to try! Thanks for hosting! 1y
Amiable @Deblovestoread Good thing you got an #AuldLangSpine list that skews heavily toward nonfiction! 😀 1y
Zuhkeeyah I love the prompts! I‘ll be participating this year 😊 1y
Deblovestoread @Amiable Right? You gave me a great starting place! 😊 1y
peanutnine This is such a fun idea! I'll give it a shot this year, I'm trying to read more nonfiction and this gives me some incentive 😊 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Zuhkeeyah That‘s great! Welcome to this laid back for-fun challenge. 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Librarybelle I have that issue myself sometimes.😂 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Deblovestoread that‘s further than I got this year 😂 (edited) 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @peanutnine have fun with it, and if you get stuck just ask…Someone on Litsy always has a good suggestion. 1y
Megabooks This is really fun! Thanks! 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ sadly, they didn‘t have the Joni Mitchell version…so compromise 1y
Librarybelle Thanks!! 😁 1y
tdrosebud I was hoping you'd be doing this challenge again. I always try to read more nonfiction and this challenge helps me do that. 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tdrosebud that‘s great to hear, I hope you have fun with this one. 1y
Deblovestoread Thanks for putting together the play list and sharing! 💜💜💜 1y
Singout Thank you! I won‘t complete this year‘s, (I got pulled into others as well!) but will have some bingo lines by the end of the month! 1y
Amandajoy This looks like fun! Thanks for setting it up again this year! 1y
julieclair This sounds like fun! One of my reading goals for 2023 is to read more nonfiction, so this will be a perfect way to keep track of how I‘m doing. 😉 1y
Cinfhen Ohhhh! So fun 🤩 sign me up 💜❣️🎶 1y
RowReads1 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa This looks fun. Could you explain how it works? 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @RowReads1 Sure, it‘s a low pressure Non-fiction challenge for next year. You can try for Bingo or Coverall depending on how much Nonfiction you like to read. And the categories are songs this year. So you can read anything related to the song: title, artist, mood, something in the lyrics. I gave some examples in the post. But for instant, “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett could involve someone you think has a Bad Reputation⤵️ (edited) 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ someone named Joan, have a Jet in it. The connection you pick is up to you and your books. Every year I usually make a card and pick different themes, this is the first year it was songs. 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ then you post about them on Litsy during the year and your progress. If you search last years‘s tag you can see how people have posted about their choices last year. 1y
RowReads1 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thanks! I‘ll do it! 1y
youneverarrived This is brilliant. Definitely joining in 😁 1y
Zuhkeeyah Not sure if anyone is on StoryGraph, but I placed these prompts into a reading challenge on there. It's the easiest way for me to keep track. Here's the link: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/b80daa8e-f957-4f78-9ea8-b54922c... 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Zuhkeeyah Thank you, I‘m glad you liked it! 1y
Amiable @Zuhkeeyah Thanks—I found it and joined! It‘s very helpful. 1y
Julsmarshall Love this! Will try to participate this year and thanks @Zuhkeeyah for adding to storygraph. So easy to keep track that way! 1y
ncsufoxes I‘m behind on everything right now but definitely want to join in this year. I enjoyed doing this last year, especially since I read a lot of nonfiction 1y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @ncsufoxes no rush, you have all year! Take your time with it, just have fun. 1y

I did it! I finished my #Nonfiction2022 Bingo card. The last one I read for the card was Alone on the Wall, about mountain climber Alex Honnold. I enjoyed a lot of these, and it is hard to pick favorites. I think I‘d rank The Storyteller by Dave Grohl, Going There by Katie Couric, and Bomb Shelter by Mary Laura Philpott among my top reads.

It‘s appropriate that I finished this in #NonfictionNovember

Just checking in…How is everyone doing with their #Nonfiction2022 card this year? Anybody stuck or having any issues. So far I‘ve been delving into history a bit with:

With Ten Days in the Mad House by Nellie Bly for I Am a Basket Case
&
Ida B Queen for I Am a Rebel

I absolutely love seeing all your posts & the way you are each interpreting the prompts, the creativity is fabulous! My TBR list is growing with each post.

⤵️

Reposting #Nonfiction2022 for anyone that missed it before!

Can anyone guess the inspirations for this year‘s choices?
…..

..
.
If these make you think of the closing of The Breakfast Club or the song B!tch by Meredith Brooks you are right. People/books can be many different things to different people depending on your POV & preconceived ideas OR many things all wrapped up in one. So have a blast fillings these categories any way you want.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Again, for anyone new…these can be filled any way that suits you. “I‘m a criminal” for instance…you could go straight to a criminal biography (Capone/Manson, whatever), or a True Crime story, but also remember that people from Martin Luther King Jr, to Nelson Mandala, to Freedom Riders were all criminals in their time and spent time locked up. So if a category sounds like not your thing, try looking at it a different way. Maybe Alcatraz, or ⤵️ 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ maybe just maybe you like science and think Watson and Crick stole that DNA and got the credit when they shouldn‘t, or remember that famous Enigma Machine Alan Turing‘s brilliance was criminalized because of his sexual orientation, archeology = grave robbers, etc, etc, etc… you can go anywhere, the choice (as always) is up to you.😉 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa This is a laid back challenge, you can make it as creative as you want….and go for just bingo or coverall. The difficulty level is entirely up to you. Have fun with it! 2y

After realizing the book I just finished would work for my last square, I‘ve finished my #Nonfiction2021 bingo card! Thanks to @Riveted_Reader_Melissa for hosting this challenge every year. It really pushed me to read a wide range of nonfiction, which is becoming one of my top genres. I‘m starting to think of books for next year‘s prompts.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great job! So many good ones in there I read too this year! 😉 2y
MallenNC @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I love seeing everyone else‘s cards! At the beginning of the year I was just going to try to get a bingo but then I got inspired. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I love when that happens! But yes, low stress…I always aim for just bingo and just see where the year takes me. 2y

Since my next audio is going to be fiction and I‘m currently reading 2 fiction books, I think I‘m ready to wrap it up for #NonFictionNovember 🤓I read 19 books and many ended up being my favorites of the year!!! Thanks to @Soubhiville who reminded me November was the month for NonFiction!! Only one of these books were in print, the rest were all audios 🎧♥️Will Smith was my favorite but the whole top row was outstanding!!

BkClubCare Applause 👏 2y

Cinfhen Audios = TOTAL game changer @Soubhiville @BkClubCare ♥️ 2y
alisiakae Wow! 2y
Graywacke Very impressive. Noting Will Smith‘s book. Does he read it himself? 2y
Cinfhen Yes @Graywacke He reads, raps, sings and does fabulous impersonations!!! He doesn‘t hold back, either. He dishes it all out. It‘s really good 2y
Cinfhen Thanks @4thhouseontheleft I really do love memoirs and NF!! It was a great month ❤️ 2y
TrishB Wow 😯 brilliant month! 2y
Cinfhen Thank you @TrishB I did manage to read 6 fiction books too!!! 2y

#Nonfiction2022 is here!
(especially for those planning ahead)

Can anyone guess the inspirations for this year‘s choices?
…..

..
.
If these make you think of the closing of The Breakfast Club or the song B!tch by Meredith Brooks you are right. People/books can be many different things to different people depending on your POV & preconceived ideas OR many things all wrapped up in one. So have a blast fillings these categories any way you want.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Cinfhen Were you the one that asked me recently to tag you when I posted the new card for 2022? If so, here it is…if not, sorry, I‘ll tag you too. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Amandajoy I know you just asked me about this recently. Here you go. 2y
See All 37 Comments
Amiable Interesting! My brain is already starting to ponder these categories. 2y
Maybe Alcatraz, or ⤵️ (edited) 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ maybe just maybe you like science and think Watson and Crick stole that DNA and got the credit when they shouldn‘t, or remember that famous Enigma Machine Alan Turing‘s brilliance was criminalized because of his sexual orientation, archeology = grave robbers, etc, etc, etc… you can go anywhere, the choice (as always) is up to you.😉 (edited) 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Amiable You can really go anywhere with these, I tried to post an example for people new to this bingo card. But as usual, if anyone gets stuck, just ask for some suggestions. (edited) 2y
Amandajoy Yay! I‘ve been waiting for this! 2y
Addison_Reads This is always one of my favorite challenges each year. Thank you for doing it again. 💚 2y
Amiable @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think the challenge for me will be to avoid always defaulting to memoirs or biographies to fit the categories. It may take a bit more brainpower to find books that are straight narrative nonfiction. But I‘m up for the challenge! 👍🏼 2y
Singout Yaaaay! I think I‘m getting obsessed with these challenges… 2y
Megabooks Still looking for I‘m your angel undercover 😉 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Megabooks I bet you can find a book for that 😉 and stick it in the free space. 2y
Cinfhen I‘ve been WAITING FOREVER for this!!!! AMAZING prompts 🤩 LOVE ❤️ Now I‘m off to plan / thanks for tagging me 2y
Cinfhen And yes, I did ask xxx thanks for remembering 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Addison_Reads Thank you! There is so much out there, that is a huge compliment. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Cinfhen You are very welcome! 2y
squirrelbrain Love these prompts Melissa! I‘m trying not to do too many challenges next year but…..! 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @squirrelbrain I try to make this one open enough, that you can pair it with other books you are already planning on reading or reading with other groups. Good luck no matter which challenges you decide attempt. 2y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Can‘t wait!! Now I need to do some planning! Thank you for a fun set of prompts. 👍🏻🤓📚 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage You are welcome! I can‘t wait to see all the fun choices! 2y
alisiakae Love it! I fail miserably every year, but I keep trying! 😄 2y
Ruthiella I‘m going to give it a shot. I read next to no NF. Maybe this will help me work it into my other reading! 2y
Butterfinger Count me in!!!! 2y
jb72 @AnneFindsJoy it‘s here! This one looks like a lot of fun. 2y
AnneFindsJoy @jb72 yay! This year will be LOTS of fun, love the topics!!! 2y
IndoorDame I‘m really excited to join you for the first time! I‘m slowly starting to read more nonfiction so motivation to expand on that is awesome! Most of the nonfiction I‘ve been reading has been memoirs, so I‘m trying to think more expansively… do you consider poetry fiction or nonfiction for this challenge? 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @IndoorDame Poetry is considered non-fiction by goodreads so it is non-fiction! Read what works for you and have fun with it! 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @IndoorDame You are very welcome. This is definitely supposed to be a fun laid back challenge, so have fun with it. 2y
vlwelser I read a lot of nonfiction so I'll give this a whirl. Your criminal explanation above is brilliant and sort of answers all of my original questions. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @vlwelser Thanks. The categories are always meant to be very broad and open to interpretation. And usually I find books I read can fit multiple categories. 2y
vlwelser Do you use them for multiple categories or do you just pick one per book? Because using Ida B for half the board feels like it would be cheating. 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @vlwelser I only use each book once, not for multiple categories…deciding which it fits in best or works for my bingo can be interesting too. 2y
vlwelser Wow. You had no idea what you were getting into with me and the questions.... Are we doing the whole sheet or just trying to get a bingo? 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @vlwelser It was meant just for bingo, but you have all year and Litsy being Litsy many people aim for coverall. Again your choice. And you can ask as many questions as you like 😉 2y

Thanks to @Soubhiville for reminding me that #NonFictionNovember starts TODAY!!
I‘ve readjusted my upcoming reading to reflect this month‘s theme🤓

I still need to start on the semi autobiographical novel #DrZ for our #DecemberChill #BuddyRead hosted by myself and the amazing @BarbaraBB - all our welcome to join us December 3-5🥰

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! Good luck!! 2y
Crazeedi I am going to jump in #NonfictionNovember just to see how many I can read in a month. Could you tag me when you oost? Ty!! Any special instructions?? 2y
Soubhiville @Crazeedi I‘m not sure where Nonfiction November came from, I think it‘s across all reading platforms. I don‘t organize anything for it, I just try to read more NF than usual in Nov. check out the hashtags and see what you find 🙂 2y

Finished my #nonfiction2021 bingo card. This is always the challenge I finish first every year. Sometimes I think back to the days when I used to say, “Oh, I don‘t read nonfiction!” Now it‘s about half of my yearly reading. Times change!

#thebibliophage2021

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes! I‘m the same way, and it‘s completely taken over my reading… but in the best possible way. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great job, by the way…and some great books in there too. We‘ve read some of the same ones too. 😉 (edited) 3y
MallenNC Awesome job! This will give me ideas for a few that I have left. I love reading narrative nonfiction. I‘ve read so much more of it in recent years. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thnks! I noticed we had some book parallels, which didn‘t surprise me. 🤓 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MallenNC I took advantage of some ARCs that I wouldn‘t have read otherwise. Which helped! I definitely have a special place in my heart for a good NNF book! 3y

Hey #NisforNonfiction friends - here are my suggestions. I went for shorter length and a few are lesser known. But I think they hit on topics we‘d be interested in right now. What do you think?

See All 15 Comments
Riveted_Reader_Melissa They all look excellent, and I haven‘t read any them yet! 3y
daniwithtea These are all fantastic picks! 3y
tjwill These are great picks! I would definitely like to read Nickel and Dimed, and the Sotomayor and Goodall memoirs! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tjwill Those were my top three out of these too! Nickel & Dimed and Sotomayor have been on my to read list for awhile, but I‘ve always been fascinated by Jane Goodall, so no matter what we pick, I‘ll be adding that one to my long to read list too. 3y
daniwithtea I am good with Nickel & Dimed, Sotomayor, or Goodall as well! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @tjwill @daniwithtea @Riveted_Reader_Melissa So we have one LGTBQ topic and one Politics / current events pick. I say we skip Nickel and Dimed and choose one of the other two, depending on Tara‘s suggestions. I‘d like to have an inspiring choice or two! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Okay friends - I suggest we go with the Jane Goodall to round out our four. That way we have one more international story. What do you think? @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @daniwithtea @tjwill 3y
daniwithtea @BarbaraTheBibliophage sounds great to me! 3y

Ok my #NForNonfiction group, anything there catch your fancy. The most recently published is The Purpose of Power, so it probably has the least chance of being read already.... but otherwise these are all sitting on my shelf waiting to be read, and honestly if none of these suit, I‘m sure I could post more 😂. I‘ll post the links to them in the comments, so you can read more about each if you‘d like.

@BarbaraTheBibliophage @tjwill @daniwithtea

BarbaraTheBibliophage Some of these definitely interest me! I‘ve got a stack of suggestions too. Will post today! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘d like to see everyone‘s suggestions before I pick ... so we can balance our topics. But I‘m flexible! 3y
daniwithtea I‘m with @BarbaraTheBibliophage, I‘d like to see the whole range before we decide. I will get my list up later today! 3y
tjwill What a great selection! There are several I would like to read. I‘m feeling very drawn to The Death of Expertise right now. Also, The Warmth of Other Suns has been on my TBR for a while. (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tjwill It‘s been on my TBR shelf forever. I just read her new book Caste and it was excellent, so I‘m now even more motivated to get it read. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage @daniwithtea @tjwill I tried to pull out a variety... so we could vary our topics a bit. Some serious, some lighter. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @tjwill I‘m anxious to read the Wilkerson but it‘s nearly 700 pages!!! I feel like that‘s too long for our group. 3y
tjwill @BarbaraTheBibliophage Yeah, it might be a push to read in a month! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage @tjwill You‘re right... mine is in hardcover, so the page count is a bit less, but even without the notes and end material it‘s still like 530 pages....so Walking With the Wind length....and although we all seemed to like that one, it did take over a month to read it if I remember correctly. I said I wouldn‘t pick doorstopers again, but apparently I did. Sorry about that. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa LOL. Open it up and see how many pages of notes it has ... maybe it‘s not as long as it seems. But .... we do have lots of other good options. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I did open it up, it was 530 pages without the endnotes, etc. 😂 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Ooof ... clearly I didn‘t read carefully...might be a bit much! 🤣🤣 (edited) 3y
daniwithtea So not that one...what about @tjwill‘s other preference, The Death of Expertise? Is that one less of a door-stopper? :) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @daniwithtea Yes, 238 pages of reading, before the notes. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Would Death of Expertise work for you @BarbaraTheBibliophage , or is it one you‘ve read already? 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds fine to me — I‘ll be curious to compare with my other recent read 3y

tjwill @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m interested. I haven‘t been posting much lately, but I try to check in every few days. I‘ve neglected to post about recent books. I‘ll make myself pick up the pace! I‘d like to do summer if that works for everyone else. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tjwill Works for me, and I‘m so glad you were checking posts recently. I think I‘m going to send Danielle an email, it doesn‘t look like she‘s posted on Litsy in awhile, try to connect that way (fingers crossed she‘s ok and her email‘s still good). 3y
daniwithtea Thank you for emailing me @Riveted_Reader_Melissa ! I am 100% on board with doing this again. (And yes, everything‘s good here, I took a bit of a social media break - thank you for your concern!) (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @daniwithtea I‘m so glad! I was a bit worried when I realized you hadn‘t posted in a long time. Since you and @tjwill are feeling a bit of a social media break, would you prefer if we emailed to organize instead of Litsy. I don‘t mind, I just missed our conversations and the great books everyone picked, it doesn‘t have to be on social media. I‘m sure @BarbaraTheBibliophage would be willing to organize either way too. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Let me add here, I‘m so glad everyone is ok, it‘s been a crazy year, and we all survived it! I‘m so excited that you are all interested in doing another round too. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @tjwill @daniwithtea I would be happy to read in summer months and organize either way! Looking forward to our group again!! (p.s. I am less on Litsy than I used to be ... mostly because the app is just so darn slow every time I‘m here.) 3y
daniwithtea @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m happy to come to Litsy just for this, or to do it over email - whatever is best for everyone! @tjwill do you have a preference? I am really looking forward to starting up again - you all have made my day with bringing this back around! (And I am also so glad everyone is ok!) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @daniwithtea @tjwill @BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m so glad everyone ok, and up for another round. Summer is fine by me, so now I‘ll have to go look at books (and I‘ll make sure to check page counts too, I‘ll try to avoid the door stoppers this time, LOL). Maybe we can pick and read ours in May, and then mail and switch in June, July, and August...and be wrapping up before fall really sets in for anyone in school or with little ones in school. 3y

Looking at my #storygraph stats for the year so far and I‘m feeling like this particular graph is lopsided in the wrong direction (especially given my goal to read more nonfiction this year) 😂

Looking for some good nonfiction audiobooks - if you‘ve got a recommendation leave it in the comments please and thank you!

xicanti I highly recommend HERE FOR IT by R. Eric Thomas, KNOW MY NAME by Chanel Miller, THE VIEW FROM THE CHEAP SEATS by Neil Gaiman, and THUNDER THROUGH MY VEINS by Gregory Scofield on audio. 3y
Eyelit Ooh - I looked these up and they are right up my alley. Much appreciated! @xicanti 3y

Eyelit @PandaPanda yes! I really liked that one 🙂 3y
Eyelit @CuriousG I liked braiding sweet grass - but haven‘t heard of the other. Investigating now. Thanks! 3y
Kalalalatja I‘m thinking this is a job for you two @Megabooks and @Cinfhen 🙌 3y
Megabooks Too many audiobooks! I try to tag all my reviews under #audiobook. A lot of them are nonfiction, as that is about 60% of what I read. If you are interested in specific topics/genres, I‘d be glad to help. Thanks for the tag @Kalalalatja 👍🏻 3y
Cinfhen I‘m happy to recommend but first I want to know do you like history, memoir, social justice?? Thanks for tagging us @Kalalalatja xx 3y
Eyelit @Megabooks good to know, I‘ll keep an eye on the tag and follow up if I‘m looking for something specific 🙂 3y
Eyelit @Cinfhen I like science, social justice, feminism, history, and pop culture 3y
Cinfhen K!! I‘ll think on it and get back to you but off the top of my mind I enjoyed these 3 3y
tenar I have the same pie chart and the same goal! 🙃 I‘m only an occasional audio reader, but from your top genres I‘ve loved Gathering Moss by Robin Kimmerer (shorter than Braiding Sweetgrass) and Rebekah Taussig‘s Sitting Pretty, both read by the authors, and The Forest Unseen: A Year‘s Watch in Nature. Right now I‘m also enjoying About Us: Essays from the Disability Series of the New York Times, which is lending itself well to both audio & text. 3y
Eyelit @Cinfhen awesomesauce - thanks so much!!! 3y
Eyelit @tenar those sound great - much appreciated! 3y

Reposting the new #Nonfiction2021 challenge for anyone who missed it a few weeks ago. As always, have fun with it and enjoy, it‘s a totally different vibe than the issue centered one from 2020, in 2021 let‘s focus on the positives that have gotten us through the past crazy year and learn more from authors we might not read often enough. 😉

*If you need to ever find this later in the year, an original card is also under #Nonfiction2021Template

ValerieAndBooks Looks like fun! I read a lot of non-fiction so I may try this! Not sure if there are specific rules for this challenge? 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @ValerieAndBooks Nope. The prompts are open to interpretation, fill them in the way that best fits you and your TBR pile. Some people aim for a bingo throughout the year, and I‘ve seen some try to coverall in a year...again what fits your reading style or goals. It‘s really up to you, just be warned that as people tag books they‘ve read throughout the year, I usually end up adding more books to my TBR list. 3y
Deblovestoread I like this! Think I will give it a whirl. Thanks for hosting and posting. 😀 3y

twohectobooks This looks like a good one! Something I could do informally next year I think. 3y
Amiable I‘m definitely in! I‘m up for anything that supports my nonfiction love. 3y
Julsmarshall Ooh, this is a great one! 3y
ValerieAndBooks @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Litsy in general makes us add more books to our TBR lists 🤪 but yes I‘m sure there‘ll be several great titles being read this year! 3y
IndoorDame I love the open ended prompts! I‘m looking for incentives to add more nonfiction to my reading. I think I‘ll try this. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @IndoorDame Enjoy! It‘s meant to be fun...a way to fit books you‘d like and try something new.... it‘s really just 5 nonfiction books for the year. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Kdgordon88 You‘re welcome! Have fun with it! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @twohectobooks Definitely, they are really open to interpretation and your mood and/or TBR list. 3y
cozypunk @Riveted_Reader_Melissa do i need to officially sign-up somewhere? Or just say, "HAAAY, I'M IN" 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa It‘s just for fun, so you can just say “HAAAY, I‘M IN” and have fun with it. Read as many or few as you want. I started when someone else was doing it, just to encourage myself to read more non-fiction and it worked. So when she stopped I took over. Feel free to post about what you are reading for which prompts if you want, however you want, we all find more great books to read that way. 3y
Cosyreader Thank you for this! I didn‘t tick off many of last year‘s prompts, they were a bit heavy 😬 but these look more do-able! Like the “sunshiney” one although I have no idea what to use for it; just something that makes me smile? Also good idea having the template as a separate tag, just searched that to find this 👍 thank you 😊 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Cosyreader You‘re welcome. And anyway you want to interpret that. Happy, Yellow cover, science about space.. you get to decide. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @HistoryLass You only have to do what you feel like, and try to pick things that you‘ll enjoy. Just so you know, as long as you keep your account private, very few people will be able to see your reviews. For instance, I can only see the 1 you tagged me in... so as you get more into Litsy you might need to connect with more people to get the most out of it. 3y
CSeydel Yay I‘m just seeing this and I‘m so in! Nonfiction is my jam 🤩 3y

And with that my #Nonfiction2020 card is complete! I didn‘t plan on being done yet, but who knew Separated would be about infrastructure (the willful non-planning of any system to keep track of anyone).

Now off to read some fantasy & science fiction! Ready Player Two popped up from my library holds way faster than I was expecting, and I‘ve been thinking about reading all the Murderbot short stories before diving into the new full length novel.

Addison_Reads Great job! I hope you're doing a board for next year. Your prompts always push me to discover new things. 3y

Reposting the new #Nonfiction2021 challenge for anyone who missed it a few weeks ago. As always, have fun with it and enjoy, it‘s a totally different vibe than the issue centered one from 2020, in 2021 let‘s focus on the positives that have gotten us through the past crazy year and learn more from authors we might now read often enough. 😉

Butterfinger Thanks for resharing. I missed it the first time. 3y
Amandajoy I‘ve already been looking for books. Maybe next year I‘ll get a bingo! 3y
Crazeedi I'll see if I can accomplish this next year! 3y

Schnoebs Super excited about this! 3y
KVanRead I was feeling like I have too many challenges going to do another but after reading these prompts I realize they cover things I‘ll probably be reading about so I‘ve taken my screenshot and I‘ll see if I can get a bingo by accident 😊 3y
cozypunk Oh no, a NONFICTION challenge!? No phone, don't download that bingo image! Noooo. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @KVanRead It happens, I usually fill them as I go too....see what shapes up. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @dandy.punk 😂 enjoy! 3y
Tattooedteacher I might have to consider this one. Thanks! 3y
kspenmoll I want to try this challenge💚❤️ 3y
Butterfinger I've decided to do it. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Butterfinger Have fun!...remember you really only need to read 5 nonfictions during the year to get bingo. 3y

As we get closer to the end of the year, time to update my #Nonfiction2020 card again!

I added “Co-dependency No More” for #SomethingAboutAddiction

“Lives In Ruins” to #somethingAboutEconomics, it‘s amazing how much of archeology is based on economics and how many Archeologists are living in poverty, lots of volunteering with no healthcare, donated vehicles, etc. Interesting for a totally different reason than I originally picked up the book!

Chab256 I love this bingo card idea! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Chab256 I made a new one for 2021 if you are interested in some nonfiction bingo. 3y

These are my #20Best2020 #NF books although more than a few were added because of the audio narration
I didn‘t read as much NF as I have in years past and I had a harder time coming up with titles....
What books am I missing.....PLEASE SHARE your lists!!!!

alisiakae I don‘t think I can wrap mine up until I finish this one! 😄 3y
See All 35 Comments
Cinfhen I own that one @cathysaid Now I know to bump it up my list!!!! Thanks 😊 3y
Cinfhen As much as I want to listen @4thhouseontheleft it‘s SUCH A COMMITMENT!!!! I get anxious just thinking about all those hours/pages 3y
Cinfhen I actually preferred this one EVEN MORE @Hestapleton 3y
Hestapleton @Cinfhen ooo I‘ll put it on my 2021 list! I was a wee 6 year old when it happened, so I‘m learning a LOT. 3y
Megabooks I‘ve read 9 of these! We definitely read a lot of the same books (enable each other 😉😉)! 💙💙 3y
alisiakae @Cinfhen I‘m doing it as a chapter a day, and it is much more manageable! 3y
TheAromaofBooks My NF was incredibly low this year. When I did read, it was what I think of as “practical“ nonfiction - books about gardening, home decor, and cooking. My two favorites were actually books about cooking, which isn't even usually my thing!! I loved Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat and also Make the Bread, Buy the Butter. 3y
Cinfhen You TOTALLY pioneer the NF front @Megabooks !!!!! 3y
Cinfhen Oh wow @Hestapleton I think you‘re the same age as my middle child ....you‘re a very wee young one 💗💗💗 3y
Cinfhen That‘s probably a smart way to approach that memoir @4thhouseontheleft 3y
TheAromaofBooks It was surprisingly entertaining. The actual recipes weren't particularly attractive to me for the most part, but her explanations of those four cooking elements were quite useful & interesting. She does have a tendency to think that everyone lives around the corner from a delightful farmers' market where they can just pop over every day & pick up scrumptious fresh produce & meat, but there was still a lot to glean from it. 3y
TrishB I‘m not sure I‘ve done 20 😁 3y
Crazeedi @Hestapleton agree!!!! 3y
Cinfhen I actually did read both books @Crazeedi and I almost added Beauty in Breaking but it was really sad 😢 it‘s a great suggestion for both #Pop21 and #Booked2021 #DoctorNurseMC 3y
Cinfhen Thanks for stopping by and leaving suggestions @Crazeedi hope you‘re feeling well xx 3y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen I hope all is well with you my friend, I'm getting my groove back! 3y
Freespirit Wow lots of inspiration for me here @Cinfhen 👍🏼💕 3y
HOTPock3tt I loved the Demi Moore autobiography @Cinfhen 3y
Reviewsbylola Some great titles on your list! 3y
Cinfhen Me too @HOTPock3tt I found it really moving!! Did u read either one of these... I loved them both 3y
Cinfhen And this one too @HOTPock3tt 3y
HOTPock3tt Oh yeah! I read “we‘re going to need more wine!” And loved it! ❤️She covered some really heavy topics but somehow still managed to keep it fun 🤗 @Cinfhen 3y
HOTPock3tt I‘ve heard of “from scratch” but haven‘t read it. And I started “in pieces” but had to return it to the library before I was finished! Maybe I will check it out again 🤔 #stacking “from scratch!” It seems interesting and relatable 😅lol @Cinfhen (edited) 3y
Cinfhen I listened to the audio for both of those memoirs @HOTPock3tt if u like audio I suggest going that route/ they were so emotionally moving 3y
HOTPock3tt Yes I love audio! 💗Epecially for memoirs/bios! I listened to “we‘re going to need more wine” on audio and the Demi Moore one too... @Cinfhen (edited) 3y
Cinfhen I wasn‘t familiar with Tembe Locke @HOTPock3tt but now im a fan and her descriptions of Italy were equally amazing. Her story broke my heart 💔 3y
Cinfhen Same!! @HOTPock3tt hearing it from the author is like sharing wine with a friend 3y
HOTPock3tt @Cinfhen It REALLY is!! 😌🍷❤️ 3y

#Nonfiction2021 IS HERE! And the day after Thanksgiving (here in the States) seemed like a good day to post this.

2020 was tough on everyone, so to turn the page for a new year we‘ll focus on the things we are grateful for, things that got us through, gave us comfort, and concentrate on voices from often underrepresented parts of our society, as we all learn more about supporting each other going forward! United we stand, after all.

⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ As always, interpret these any way you want, it‘s completely up to you and your to-read lists. 😉 3y
Amiable Thank you! I‘m going to start planning for 2021 now. 🙂 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Amiable You are welcome! Planning is half the fun! 3y

Laughterhp Oh I‘m going to try and do this. Every year I want to try and read more nonfiction! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Laughterhp Welcome! Glad to have you join us! 3y
CoffeeK8 I‘m super excited for another year of nonfiction reading! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @CoffeeK8 I‘m glad you are excited, have fun picking out new books. 3y
Daisey Litsy has really helped me increase my nonfiction reading. The last few years I‘ve worked to include nonfiction almost every month. Maybe I‘m ready to actually join a nonfiction challenge. At least I‘ll save a copy and see what happens! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Daisey You can get Bingo with just 5 books, 4 if you use the free space...it‘s just a matter of picking the right books. 😉 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Daisey But yes, Litsy has really encouraged me to read much more nonfiction, I used to read almost none. 😬 3y
Megabooks Looks good!! 3y
Q84 Sounds fun! 3y
Smarkies Thanks for this! I normally don't get the card totally filled but it does help to prompt me to read books that I may not have picked up if not for the prompts. This year it was Dragon in the Glass which I really enjoyed. 😁 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Smarkies I just looked that up, that looks fascinating! And yes, it helps me too....to read things I‘ve thought looked good forever but just haven‘t had the motivation to read, or to pick up things I wouldn‘t ordinarily. And I don‘t always complete my card either, adding any nonfiction into my reading used to be a struggle and this has really helped me. 3y
Amandajoy Yay! Thank you for making this! 3y
AnneCecilie This looks like fun, I‘m saving a copy of this. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Yay!! Sorry I missed it! I‘m definitely in! These prompts are terrific—it‘s time to feel hope again. ☮️ (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage No problem, Litsy is busy this time of the year....lots of posts! I‘m glad you like it and are hopping on this year too. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve been negligent about being here. I used to scroll while we watched TV. Now I‘m crocheting Christmas presents! Gotta stay on task. (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage Darn real life, interfering with our book life. 😉 3y
alisiakae Yay!! 3y
alisiakae These are great prompts, I‘m really looking forward to it! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @4thhouseontheleft Thank you, and I‘m happy to see you jump onboard too. How‘d your move go, by the way? (edited) 3y
alisiakae @Riveted_Reader_Melissa We're halfway there. Our house sold in August, moved into a short-term rental in September, & now just waiting for the new home to be finished. Hopefully sometime in March! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @4thhouseontheleft Honestly, it sounds like good timing. You can stay settled through the winter months, and move again in the spring before it gets too hot. Good luck. 3y
Cinfhen Found it!!!! Super excited for a new year ♥️Great prompts ‼️ 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AlRah Here is the prompts for 2021. You can interpret them any way you want, and read as many nonfictions as you‘d like, some people go for 5 and a bingo, some go for coverall and read something for every square. I just take a screenshot of it on my phone, and repost it with squares marked off as I read throughout the year. And if you want to see what other people are reading the tag for this year is #Nonfiction2021, you can check out last ⤵️ (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Years too if you are interested under #Nonfiction2020 (edited) 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AlRah hopefully it comes through this time. 3y
AlRah @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thank you...Got it 😀 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AlRah You‘re welcome! 3y
Singout Thank you! I am looking forward to participating again this year...this one looks a bit less intense! 😉 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Singout That was my goal after a crazy 2020! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Here‘s the card for 2021 @Dirk_Wethington 3y
Dirk_Wethington @Riveted_Reader_Melissa thank you! I generally spend all my nonfiction reading on just a few of these categories, so this will be a great challenge. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Dirk_Wethington That makes for a good challenge, a few easy to fill with your existing TBR list and a few to introduce you to new topics or authors. And these are always open to interpretation, so you can fill them with anything that fits to you. 3y
Addison_Reads @Riveted_Reader_Melissa awesome! Thank you for tagging me since I completely missed it. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Addison_Reads You‘re welcome, I‘m sure I‘ll repost it again closer to the end of the year too. 3y
AnneFindsJoy @Riveted_Reader_Melissa So happy you're running this again! I totally fell-off in 2020, but I LOVE the upbeat sunshiney prompts for this year! Yay! I can get on that bandwagon!! THANKS!!!
3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AnneFindsJoy You‘re welcome. 2020 was a tough year.... Have fun with it this year, and just aim for 5 and don‘t stress about it. 3y

Figured it was time to update my own card, which I haven‘t done for awhile. I moved Anita Hill down to “Something About A Candidate” & out of “Something About Law” since I‘m planning on reading #NonfictionNerds RBG pick yet this year (hopefully this month yet). I added Loaded “Something About guns”, and since I had already used my refugee/immigration cube earlier this year, I counted Malala‘s Refugee book as “Something About Housing” although ⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...although honestly that could have been counted as about current war zones, or lack of a social safety net, from another country. It‘s quite amazing how many of these intersect and could easily count for different categories....just goes to show how one issue can cause a cascade of other issues, especially when we try to ignore it or let it exacerbate. #Nonfiction2020 (edited) 3y

I‘ve recently been listening to a lot of nonfiction audiobooks and I‘m LIVING for it. I love biographies and micro histories the most. What are some of your recs, littens?

Booksnchill The Five was my 5⭐️ nonfiction- especially good on audio- taking back the histories of the women killed by Jack the Ripper- NOT a Ripper book, a book about the women (who were not all prostitutes- newspaper sensationalism and societal prejudice) 4y
Schnoebs Gene by Siddhartha Mukherjee, Norwegian Wood by Lars Mytting, Culinary Reactions by Simon Quellen Field, and The Invention of Nature by Andrea Wulf. I listened to all of these on audio and absolutely loved them! 4y
Scochrane26 Gabrielle Union‘s book. Born a Crime. Both excellent audiobooks. 4y
See All 24 Comments
Aseleener Anything by Erik Larson. 4y
Emilymdxn My favourite history book of all time was The Warmth of Other Suns, which tells the story of black Americans moving from the south to the north in the twentieth century through the lives of a few individuals. I read it a few years ago but I still think about it all the time, so good 4y
JackOBotts @Aseleener and I are on the same wavelength- Erik Larson. I loved Devil in the White City. Just started Splendid and the Vile. 👍🏼 4y
Trashcanman Anything by Noam Chomsky 4y
wanderinglynn I recently enjoyed Me by Elton John, The Wolves at the Door by Judith Pearson, Into the Magic Shop by James Doty, and Oliver Wendell Holmes by Stephen Budiansky. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Scochrane26 I‘ll second both of those!! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa This memoir is unique and sciencey, I loved it 4y

Here‘s my updated bingo board for #NonFictionChallenge2020 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa
I made good progress this month, although a few books were really stinkers 😖
I did appreciate Votes for Women, American Pain, The Only Plane in the Sky and The Girl Who Escaped ISIS.
I need ideas for the remaining prompts, if anyone has suggestions 🙏🏻

merelybookish This is not recent but well respected on economics. 4y
Cinfhen Ohh, thanks!!! It‘s on my TBR @merelybookish ❤️❤️❤️Hope you‘re doing well xx 4y

Cinfhen Thanks so much @Bookwormjillk that was a tough prompt for me 😊Hopefully I‘ll find it!! And it sounds good!!!! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa About the law I‘m going with 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa But these were also great ones I‘ve read in the past... 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa For Cybersecurity you know I‘m currently reading about Gamergate, and this book is really good and goes into not only security but trying to get the social media platforms to be helpful.. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa About a candidate...or economics and bailouts...honestly I learned a lot from Elizabeth Warren‘s book if you are interested (edited) 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa If not, I suggest escaping the US Presidental group a bit... maybe John Lewis 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Or escaping the US completely...maybe Mandela 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Or go candidate adjacent... I‘m sure you read Becoming already, it was excellent if you didn‘t... but how about any other First Lady...or 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa By the way, the other one I had on my list for Cybersecurity was 4y
jenniferw88 If you want to escape to the UK: Class 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa As far as the social safety net...I think the current situation has opened that wide open, so many things might fit in there now. Medical, UBI, income security, food desserts, functioning government are all becoming much more important to our safety.... 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Or you could go more historical and read about the Great Depression and FDR and where some of the programs were created and why..... sometime the past is easier to read about then current stuff, but still informative 4y
Cinfhen Thank you SO MUCH @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @jenniferw88 your suggestions are so helpful!! Now my TBR is exploding 💜😊 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I might actually go read one of the candidates books that I didn‘t last year with #ReadTheCandidates and read Yang...just because his UBI is starting to make a lot of sense suddenly as part of a social safety net.🤷‍♀️ 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Another one that‘s been on my TBR for awhile, and that I might shoehorn in here because it‘s sort of about the failure of our current social safety net... 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Side note...I read Barracoon and She Said and counted them for the same squares. 😂 4y
