Mehso-so

Ellie needs therapy, not a new relationship. The romance was the least interesting part of this book.

I really enjoyed the food, family, and cultural dynamics. The romance was tepid -cute and fast paced but nothing interesting.

The writing was very bland for me. I kept zoning out as I was reading.

Laughterhp Oh I‘m looking forward to this one. I forgot to read last months book. 1w

Librarybelle My library has it on audio, so I‘m hoping I can actually finish this one before the discussion! 😂 7d
ElizaMarie I put a hold on the Audio and the Kindle hold should be released in a week, so I should be able to finish this one. I am not the best at reading on the Kindle, but.. hopefully this grabs me! 7d
Julsmarshall This looks like so much fun! Put it in hold, says 3 weeks so we‘ll see 🤞 6d

Story was an ode to K-dramas

Rise and popularity of K-dramas

Have you seen any? The only one I've seen that is close is XO, Kitty on Netflix

#riseupreads

Top right is more artwork from the FairyLoot special edition

Melismatic I‘ve watched a few dramas bc they often have idol pop stars from music groups I like in them. Very velveeta cheesey but usually very fun. 1w

peanutnine I've actually never really watched any k dramas 1w
willaful I started one that a friend recommended and I did enjoy it, but I'm really bad about watching things with subtitles. I don't remember what it was called but each episode was a different period in the life of the hero/heroine (started when she was a little girl, IIRC) and they were played by different people each time, which was a little hard to get used to! I think loss of memory was involved. 1w
PuddleJumper Anyone that likes the book would probably enjoy Korean Odyssey, I could see a lot of similarities with reading.

My absolute faves that I rewatch are Semantic Error, university enemies to lovers, and Kingdom, historical political drama with zombies.
1w
PuddleJumper Other supernatural themed romance dramas I would recommend are Tale of the Nine Tailed Fox, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, and Alchemy of Souls.

1w
PuddleJumper @willaful Find Me in Your Memory? Popular drama from 2020 I think 1w
willaful This would have been before 2020. 1w
IriDas I haven‘t watched any k-dramas. I don‘t have cable and my only subscription service is Crunchyroll. :D But the book was still good without having watched any. :) 6d
TheBookHippie My friend loved Korean dramas this reminded me of that. She would have loved this on audio I think. 4d

Did you have this author's note in the version you read?

Loved all the Korean mythological creatures

peanutnine Helpful links, thanks! The author's note was actually included in the audiobook, which I was surprised at as that is not always the case. It is interesting to see what parts were interpreted! I loved all the creatures mentioned but sometimes I wasn't sure how to picture them 1w
PuddleJumper I never read author notes 😅 1w
IriDas The audio had the author‘s note. I don‘t know anything about Korean myths but I had assumed it would be like retelling of Greek myths that folks do these days. Where they change some things for the sake of the story. 6d

Overall thoughts? Any favorite parts?

I loved the banter between Seokga and Hani! Definitely looking forward to the sequel!

Above is artwork from the FairyLoot special edition

Melismatic The banter was my favorite part - very k-drama! 1w

peanutnine Oooo gorgeous art! I did love the banter. And I loved the world building! How all the creatures lived among the humans and interacted with the gods was interesting 1w
PuddleJumper I found it very shallow and the main characters intensely irritating. I enjoyed the mythology and wanted more of that and world building and less of the main characters 🤣 1w
AnnCrystal That artwork 🤩🎨🖌️💝. 1w
IriDas I enjoyed it. It reminded me a little of the gods portions of the Iliad. I liked the way the main characters ended up making each other better “people” by the end. 6d
