Found all but one of February‘s #WickedWords in the tagged book. Candles, but no damn candlesticks 😂 Also this book was a unique take on retelling Romeo and Juliet. I loved it. 🥹

I really enjoyed this R&J retelling, which centers Rosaline's POV. Sure, it takes a bunch of liberties and they may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was a great new viewpoint to read Romeo as a Very Bad Man. I didn't love Tybalt's characterization but seeing the Friar in a new light was fascinating and chilling. Now I need to go search for every Rosaline-centric work out there! #BooksAndBlooms

Andrea313 @mcipher When I bought the book, I thought, "Huh, looks like my vase." Then I found roses at a discount?! Had to complete the look. ? 2w

TheAromaofBooks This chapter made me sad because it doesn't seem like there is any way that this is actually going to end up being a happy situation 1mo
Ruthiella @TheAromaofBooks I share your trepidation! I feel like a cloud is hanging over everyone…lightning is coming…😬 1mo

Clare-Dragonfly Sheesh, all these things they can‘t do because it would make Tom or #tetchytully mad! 1mo
mcctrish @Clare-Dragonfly I‘m not sure #snakeywakey would approve either but getting them together would solve everything #gettheteapotsback 1mo
ElizaMarie @TheAromaOfBooks I also thought this chapter was so sad. It sucks that Maggie and Phillip can't live their lives without their families being all butt hurt. Very #RomeoAndJuliet vibes here. Also poor girl #MaggieREAD please girl, go back to books! 1mo
Leftcoastzen Made me sad too. Maggie is painfully aware of her diminished station in life ,trying to muddle through. A cloud hanging over everything, so true. Every relationship is tainted by the drama of the past. 1mo
julieclair @mcctrish You are seriously cracking me up with your #TeapotCrusade ! 😂😂😆😘 4w

Mehso-so

This retelling of 'Romeo & Juliet' had a great deal of promise & it looked like an intriguing read. Unfortunately it didn't quite work. Most of the characters were quite flat including Romeo, whose whole personality was his being in love with Juliet.

Runajo & Juliet were by far the more interesting storyline but even there I don't think the full potential was utilised. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf There were also sporadic chapters back in time at Romeo & Juliet's first meeting but no indication was given at the start of the chapter so it was a bit confusing the first couple of times. I'm not sure I'm invested enough to bother with the second book. 3⭐

A Daughter of Fair Verona | Christina Dodd

I‘m confused as to what I just read. The opening chapter was magnificent. premise was nice; oldest daughter of Romeo/Juliet tries to navigate. Then she falls in love at first sight. The whole murder mystery was ok, just wasn‘t enough to take up the plot. Which had like 2-3 things going at once. Was disjointed. Rosie felt like a coin flip on how she feels about being forced to marry. The whole romance here was all over the place.

This was disappointing. I was hoping for another fun murder mystery set in a continuation of a well-read world, like Mr Darcy & Miss Tilney. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. I guess I didn't like the writing style. Or the characters. Rosie starts off supposedly as a mature older girl who knows she's not interested in love but then immediately falls in love with a random man (like she'd been teasing her parents about) ⤵️

peanutnine proceeds to act like a vapid girl. The plot is also way too slow. At 32% and the guy finally died but no one seems in too much of a hurry to figure out who killed him. There's no sense of urgency even though everyone believes Rosie did it. Anyway this was my December #bookspin that I finally gave up on @TheAromaofBooks 5mo
