Fast and easy read. Provides a lot of detail on how Stella learned to talk using an assistance device - voice buttons. It seems almost too good to be true, but the dog research I‘ve read over the years indicates it‘s possible that Stella (and other dogs) have higher neurological functions that we thought. 3/5 stars - cites Speech Language research, but almost no canine research so a lower rating.
Also, welcome Aloy - our rescue puppy!

I Have a Dream | Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is a biography about Martin Luther and his I have a Dream speech. He was an African American public speaker who spoke about a better future for his people. He talked about how one day they would get treated as real people instead of overlooked. He lead many group riot walks through the streets to make his presence known and know that he was not going to stop until his people were heard. He knew everyone was different and that made us unique.

Late because the Litsy app would not cooperate and let me add images last night! As an English professor, here are three of my favorite words to say out loud:
* onomatopoeia
* abecedarian
* soliloquy

Any other #TeachersOfLitsy want to chime in?

It takes a while to address what the child is dealing with (stuttering), which may create opportunity for many children dealing with different speech things to find a connection with the text. The art and poetry in this book are beautiful. #PictureBook #DisabilitiesRep

#MLKjrDay

Being from MetroDetroit, Michigan, #MittenLitten, it‘s cool to know that MLK first said his speech in Detroit before saying it in Washington DC.

JamieArc I just asked my spouse about this because I didn‘t know that but he‘s from Detroit, and he told me he did know because his dad pastored at Central United Methodist Church, downtown Detroit, where one of the speeches was. Cool to know that history…. 1y
CrowCAH @JamieArc wow, you have a few degrees of separation! 1y

Today‘s #SavvySettings prompt is Prison. Some of Angela Davis‘s speeches criticizing the American prison system are included in this book.

In this autobiographical story, Scott portrays a young boy who has a “bad speech day” at school. His dad‘s advice helps him find ways to rethink his bad speech days. A great story that teaches acceptance. #PictureBook Letter I #BBRc

robinb Jess, I‘m debating giving this one as a gift to a friend. She is a retired deaf teacher and something about this book‘s description spoke to me. As someone who has read it, what do you think? 2y
Librarybelle @robinb I think that would make a wonderful gift! The author is a poet, and you can tell from the writing that he carries that style over to the pages. And, since it‘s based on personal experience, so much of this rings true. Definitely a great gift choice! 2y
robinb @Librarybelle Thanks! 😘 Yes, I liked the aspect of his personal experience. I think this is one she‘d like. 2y
