Chapter 5: my head is spinning and I had to #consultthegoogle #somuchdrama after a ton of drama, Lizzie gets Mary invited to Catherine‘s reception #enterMrYates #sosalty #sinsofthebrother #poorColonel #fingerscrossed #flashbacktoLizziesGarden #pemberlittens #hashtagbrigade #almostcaughtup

Bookwormjillk I feel like I‘m going to have to re-read all the books now 1y
willaful I'm curious about Mrs. Grant's saying “If you only knew the real truth of the matter--if you only knew who had suffered and who was to be blamed!“ What do you suppose she's referring to? I don't think Mary should be blamed for her brother's actions but I also don't think that was the reason Edmund broke with her. I don't mind seeing Mary redeemed but I don't like her being whitewashed. 1y

peanutnine @willaful I think that is just bias from Mrs Grant on her sister's behalf, seeing her heartache. I hope that Mary recognizes how she acted poorly and learned from it 1y
TheAromaofBooks I finally had to sit down and write out little mini family trees to help me remember who is who! Part of the problem is Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey are the two Austens I have read the fewest times and a LOT of the characters are from those two books!! 1y
ravenlee I was doing all right keeping everybody straight until Mr. Yates showed up. I knew, from the guide at the beginning, he was from MP, but I couldn‘t place him. When he became important, though, I got frustrated and had to look up “who the hell is Mr. Yates?!” 1y
TheBookHippie @TheAromaofBooks brilliant. I‘m going to do the same so I don‘t wear the Google out 😅😂 1y
TheBookHippie @ravenlee 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😅😂🤷🏻‍♀️same. 1y
mcctrish Lady Catherine “I know things, but I‘m not telling you what! Suffice to say you should be ashamed. But I‘m not getting into it. So get out of my house and feel badly. And no I won‘t say why!” For the love of god, women, spit it out!!!! 1y

Repost for @BarkingMadRead:

As we near the end of Middlemarch (finally) it‘s toke to choose our next Austen-era #BuddyRead! Here are the 4 suggestions made by some of you, which also all come up when you #consultthegoogle about what the read after Middlemarch! Drop a comment on the original post with your choice, and I will announce the winner before we finish Middlemarch. We will start on April 1. #pemberlittens

TheAromaofBooks Oh wow, literally all of these are on my TBR, so I would be excited to buddy read any of them!! I would never have gotten this far through Middlemarch without this gang of co-readers! 😂 2y

SamAnne I‘d do any of them. I‘ve read the Woolf a few times and it is great. It‘s pretty short so we could choose that and another one…A Room is just 4 essays. 2y
IndoorDame I‘m most excited about A Room and Tess but am happy with anything the group picks! 2y
Bookwormjillk I would read any of them but I think I vote Agnes Grey because it‘s the only Brontë I haven‘t read 2y
eeclayton I vote for Tess, but I'm in whichever book wins. 2y
kwmg40 I'd read any of them but have a slight preference for Agnes Grey, as that's the only one I've not read already. 2y
Librarybelle My vote is for Agnes Grey, though any would be fine (Dickens on the bottom of the list…I‘m not a fan of him). I did read Tess years ago but would be fine rereading it! 2y
peanutnine Tess has been on my TBR for years so I vote for that one, but willing to read any of these ☺️ 2y
BarkingMadRead I have all of the votes counted so far, keep them coming! 2y
Daisey A couple of these are still on my TBR, but I‘m voting for 2y
ravenlee I was planning to read the Woolf this year and would love to do it as a buddy read. They all look good, though. 2y
AllDebooks Definitely Woolf 2y
