The Shining | Stephen King

Ok #losersclub I watched the miniseries of the Shining with Rebecca DeMornay and Steven Weber and it‘s way more accurate than the original. I still like the original better, but this was really good! #stephenking #kingfromthebeginning #booktomovie

Bookwormjillk Where did you find it? 1w
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I rented it on Amazon prime, I think it was $4? It took us two nights to watch it 1w
5feet.of.fury I like the miniseries, it is more psychological. Kubrick‘s version is just so good (no matter what SK thinks 😂😅) 1w

AllDebooks I had to bail on this, too much for me, along with The Long Walk! 😱 3w
BarkingMadRead @AllDebooks it was a lot, and knowing that he pulled it from the shelves added a little weight! 3w

Karkar What always surprises me about this one every time I read it is back when he wrote it school shootings were not a thing. But you would think from this book he wrote it today. 3w
5feet.of.fury Yeah, that was nuts. I can see why he pulled it after Columbine (and the continued epidemic of school shootings) with the way Charlie is presented in the end/showing the impact on the hostages as positive. 3w
BookwormAHN @5feet.of.fury That always bothered me too. It was almost cult leaderish. 3w
5feet.of.fury @BookwormAHN agree! Cult leader is what came into my mind, too. 3w

Sace 🤔 I did purchase a copy back in October. Now…where did I put it? 1mo
AllDebooks I'm going to skip reading this as I read it a few months ago. 😅 1mo

BookwormAHN Yay, the audiobook is fantastic 🖤 1mo
Bookwormjillk Like @AllDebooks I read this one recently. I‘ll chime in on the discussion but won‘t read again 1mo
kwmg40 I'd read this a number of years ago and recently watched the movie for the first time, but I'm up for a reread in January. 1mo

5feet.of.fury I found a link on Reddit where you can read the full book online which I would never officially advocate for, but I know this one is hard to find. So, just putting it out there. Happy googling to those impacted (edited) 2mo
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury I feel like if you could buy the book but read it that way, that would be like taking money from the author. But if the book isn‘t available for sale 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2mo

5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRead yeah, I‘m gonna hit up a couple of the used bookstores near me (on the off chance they don‘t know what they have, because wow those prices) but it‘s my backup plan. King has alot of my money 😂 I‘ll sleep ok this once haha 2mo
JenlovesJT47 You can also download it for free here, since it is unavailable for sale: https://annas-archive.org/md5/47f228955fd87588ff9965f1e5cc92cb 2mo
TieDyeDude @5feet.of.fury @barkingmadread King has specifically let “Rage“ go out-of-print, so read it wherever you can find it with a clear conscience! https://screenrant.com/stephen-king-rage-book-out-print-controversy-explained/ (edited) 2mo
BarkingMadRead @TieDyeDude yes, that is correct 2mo
ImperfectCJ I know my mom has a copy of The Bachman Books, but she's 2000 miles away and not at all keen on splitting up her King collection, even temporarily. I'm probably skipping this one for now, although it would be interesting to read again with the context of a few decades. 2mo

5feet.of.fury I liked when Ben Mears is talking about writing his new book and he says something about writing it really gory and detailed to “really rub the reader‘s nose in it” which is funny because that‘s what SK does -but hadn‘t REALLY done yet because this was his 2nd published book. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting, my brain latched on to that tiny detail 2mo
5feet.of.fury Way too many townspeople at points. But I really liked the core characters 2mo

BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury definitely a peeve of mine with all the characters, he so loves to do it 🤣 2mo
BookwormAHN My copy just came in from the library but since this is a reread, one of the things that drove me nuts the first time around was the endless descriptions of scenery 😸 2mo
Bookwormjillk I loved the forward (read by King himself in the audiobook.) It took a while for this book to get going. I was a little surprised he was allowed to get away with that even in his second book. I enjoyed it though. Loved the nods to Dracula that he built in. 2mo
Karkar The first time I read this book it scared me more than any other book before. But this being my third time thru it was a different read to pick up details that I did not the past times. 2mo
TieDyeDude @barkingmadread @5feet.of.fury @Bookwormahn @bookwormjillk @karkar I get the annoyance with a lot of characters, but I think it helps up the stakes of the story; you're not just concerned about a handful of main characters, you worry about the whole town. I thought the same recently with Billy Summers; with the office workers and neighbors in the first part of the story, there is more dread because there are many people you want to be safe 🙂 2mo
TieDyeDude I also enjoyed, in this book, seeing the characters figure out which vampire myths would work or not. I like when his characters live in “our world“ and have the same cultural touchstones. There is less “Why would you do that?!“ and more “Is that what I would have done?“ 2mo
5feet.of.fury @TieDyeDude yeah, I can see that! I think some of the personalities were too close in this one, they just didn‘t seem super distinct. 2mo

'Salem's Lot | Stephen King

Pickpick

This was my first time reading this edition of ‘Salem‘s Lot. This book includes a section of deleted scenes from the original manuscript, the short stories One for the Road and Jerusalem‘s Lot, and black and white photography in the section breaks.

This is still one of my favorite vampire novels.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
