My first time reading an Ellery Queen mystery & it won‘t be the last. There were twists in this one that I did not see coming. The premise too—twelve days of Christmas, twelve gifts with a sinister undertone—is a perfect recipe for a mystery. If this were a modern day mystery, I could see the suspense playing out even more in really twisted ways.
I took this picture earlier today. #Zeke is doing very well! The meds are working! #CatsOfLitsy
Turns out it‘s been three whole years since I last read any Diana Wynne Jones and a whopping FOURTEEN YEARS since I devoured FIRE AND HEMLOCK in a single, rainy night in Taupo. Revisiting it now was the right choice. I may not finish it tonight, but it‘s gonna suck up a good chunk of my evening with its twisty, story-mad excellence.
I‘ll just try to ignore the cover, which has gotta rank as one of the worst on record. Who authorized it?
82/100 Not too shabby!
Three of my faves from the list:
1) The Sixth Sense
2) The Matrix
3) The Silence of the Lambs
And three faves not on the list:
1) Office Space
2) Slingblade
3) The Spitfire Grill
Edited to add The Big Lebowski, one of the best movies of all time!

Casey looks just as groggy as I feel. So far today I‘ve read two issues from Marvel Unlimited and a wee bit more of RING, which is just as wonderful the second time through. It‘s got me thinking about how it‘s less concerned with romance as a genre (as the jacket copy implies) than as a philosophy and as a largely internal negotiation that nonetheless intimately involves at least one other person. Great stuff. #deweyoct #readathon
I think this book is a helpful tool to start rebuilding a life that will NOT burn you out, although I wish it had gone into more detail about how to LIVE with the tools, instead of just starting with the tools, but maybe that will be in a second book. I also liked all of the exercises in the book, and will use those to help reshape my life (hopefully) so it‘s more happy.
3.5/5 an east to approach book, good for people with stress and burn out
The doggy centered stories are a mix of happy and sad.
I‘m older now than when I first read this series and I am more bothered by the over sexualization of the female characters, but lots of different dog events and dog centered activities kept me rereading.
Vol 1 introduces the characters, both human and dog, and the pet store where most of the characters live and work.
3/5 cute story, too much sexualization of female characters.

There are probably a dozen or more other names I could rotate through this list.
