I‘ll never forget this day.
Went to the Miami Book Fair yesterday and got to meet and greet the lovely Leigh Bardugo.
Here she is signing my copy of her new novel The Familiar.
I‘m completely obsessed with the book cover.

Wow! What a beautiful book! An excellent sophomore book by Brit Bennett. A story about twin sisters through the course of time as they navigate their lives together and apart. Themes around family dynamics, race, love, and loss. I weeped at the end! Can‘t wait to see what else Brit Bennett comes out with 🧡

My pick for the week, since we are approaching Valentine‘s Day. Although this book has nothing to do with v-day, self-love, self-discovery, and mindful connections with those around us does. This book is what I needed for this precise season of my life.

I did enjoy this book but I struggled a bit to get through it. It‘s one of those books that I just wasn‘t excited to read but the writing was great! Wallace the protagonist is someone most of us could relate to in some ways. That isolation felt between friends and other relationships as a queer black man in the Midwest was so relatable and heart wrenching.

Wow I felt this deeply 🤍✨
Oops I read this in one day! This book was a gift from my secret Santa she told me this was her fav book and I‘m so glad she shared it with me. Wow! I‘m still gathering my thoughts. I‘m emotional lol

Wow! I loved this story. Yaa Gyasi‘s writing is beautiful and I couldn‘t put this book down. It dabbled with what it means to be spiritual and how you question your spirituality once a loved one is gone. The bits about neuroscience were actually pretty interesting and not boorish as I presumed. I highly recommend this book 💛

Finished! This was so so good! What an incredible but horrifying story! McNamara‘s investigative work was truly impressive alongside those involved. I really do think she contributed to the catching of the golden state killer It‘s just unfortunate she didn‘t get to live long to see it. I highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this book! I had mixed feelings about the dialogue but I couldn‘t put this book down so that‘s a yes for me. I really liked how the author dove into each of these characters and their complexities as they navigate race and class. I won‘t go in too much so I won‘t spoil it but I recommend it!

Loved this so so much! Jen Gotch is incredible in case you didn‘t know. I love her voice and her book really felt like a friend giving you a big hug and telling you everything will be okay and actually meaning it!

Meh...it was pretty predictable and it wasn‘t scary as the book cover suggests. Overall it was an easy read which I enjoyed. Would recommend if you want to get into suspense novels 3/5
Shopsin‘s memoir was so charming and makes you want to have a family legacy like hers. Overall 4/5
Sorry for the delay! Had trouble receiving one of the bookmarks I wanted to send. It should arrive in two days!

This book is part of my summer reading stack. I wanted to read a thriller this time around so I figured this would hit the spot! Also, target has been clutch with their book selection lately. What‘s everyone reading?

Monday feels. I got off work yesterday and felt the need to stop by my favorite bookstore and pick up something new (even though I have a huge stack of unread books on my shelf). Wasn‘t feeling well and thought this would pick me up.

Thought this was an appropriate choice for black history month. I actually got this book at a book swap which is why the book is a little rough around the edges. I personally like knowing my book belonged to someone else. It has a different energy from newly bought books. Not sure what I‘m getting into but what books have you gotten at a book swap?

For 2019 I wanted to challenge myself and read 24 books for the year. I know it‘s pretty low but this is a challenge I think I can actually commit to without feeling overwhelmed. My rule is to read two books per month, 1 fiction 1 nonfiction. Here are my two picks for January which happened to be two of my Christmas presents.
What are your most anticipated reads for the year?

I was able to scoop an autographed copy of Circe and a Spanish book from Isabel Allende. Tbh I haven‘t read a Spanish book in a very long time and thought it would be a nice challenge. Can‘t wait to read them both!

This is the new fiction section at my local independent bookstore. It was my first time visiting this location since I‘ve only been to their main one in the gables. I loved the service and the manager really made me feel welcomed. What‘s your favorite local bookstore? And do you have a favorite employee?

It‘s that time of the year! The Miami book fair is back and I‘m so excited! Idk if there‘s any Litsy friends that live in Miami but I would love to do a meet up and chat with y‘all!
In the meantime I‘m going to set-up my schedule of authors I would like to meet and other events.
Does your city host an annual book fair? And if so when does it take place?

Started reading the second installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series.
I also started to rewatch True Blood to compare haha
This is probably one of my biggest guilty pleasures and thought this time of year is perfect for a Charlaine Harris read.
What are your favorite Halloween books?

This book was a delight to read! Balli Kaur Jawal did an amazing job at depicting the Indian immigrant experience in London. I often found myself googling all the Gurmukhi terms mentioned to learn about their vestiments and dishes. Not to mention, the erotic stories were actually pretty good and not corny as I presumed. I highly recommend this book!
I missed Litsy! I really need to post more and interact with my Litsy friends.
On that note! I‘m leaving on a trip to Seattle next week and would like some recommendations or even have a meet up with some girls out there to book swap or something! Haha
Anyway, this is my read for the week. Heard great things about this book and it‘s also part of Reese‘s book club so double win!

I would be lying if I said this book didn‘t make me feel like an emotional wreck. Far from the Tree portrayed a beautiful story about 3 biological siblings adopted into different families and how they found each other despite their circumstances. And I couldn‘t help but feel an immense connection with the siblings. I felt like I knew them and I love when books make me feel that way. Ahhh I can gush over this book all day long! #happyreading #ebook

This was such a fun read! Graphic novels about badass girls is a keeper in my heart.
(Lately, I‘ve been doing this weird thing where I have to read something light or quick to then transition into the next book I get into, how long do you guys take to start a new book after you finish one? Just wondering 🙇🏽♀️)

It‘s safe to say that Roxane Gay is an incredibly talented writer. What I admired the most about her book is how represented I felt yet how new and eye opening this was for me. I was able to agree, to disagree, to laugh, and to cry. Great great read.
Highly recommend.
