You don‘t have to be vegan or even vegetarian to find a ton of good recipes in this book. I was surprised by the number I want to try. Highly recommended.
I'm learning all about craft cider, domestic cideries, apples, and more. I'm not quite done with the book, but I'm now on the hunt to find good cider in the States. I've yet to find a US cider I like as well as the ones I've had in the UK in Europe, but I'm still searching. (more on thoughts on my blog: https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/09/weekend-cooking-cider-revival-by-jason.htm... )
Although the plot line was a little disjointed, I enjoyed this graphic nonfiction about the 1918 flu pandemic. It really showed how swiftly it spread and how deadly it was. Geared to middle grade readers, it‘s a good introduction to the terrible year.
I am obsessed with this cookbook! I want to make every single recipe plus the book is drop-dead gorgeous to look through. I reviewed this today on my blog, but you can just take my word for it ... you want this book (even if you're an omnivore). https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/09/weekend-cooking-forest-feast.html
August is vacation month. Here are some of this month‘s releases that would be perfect for your beach bag.
Love books with family trees.
One of my most anticipated fall thrillers. Hope there‘s nothing creepy in the small duffle 😬 I read the letter, but I‘m not sure if I should believe the writer. Cool book swag thanks to @GalleryBooks
Today's roundup includes 2 really good books for reluctant MG readers: both nicely illustrated with fun stories. The latest Minecraft book is for all you gamers. Boy and Girl is billed as a little weird, but still looks interesting. I'm most excited about this body-image-positive story set in East London about a big girl who loves food, life, and her little sister. Making my meal plan. Top cookbooks of the week. #cooksoflitsy #dinner#cooking #cookbooks yes Abrams is well represented. Cooking Light & Skinnytaste are big favs.
Solo dinner tonight. Lentil soup, wine, & a book.
My full review will be up on my blog tomorrow, but this book has upped our BBQ game. Recommended for the meat eaters out there.
This month's books that are still on my list. Which should I read first?? Look up the titles on Litsy, or see my summaries here: https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/05/7-novels-you-dont-want-to-miss.html
I love this book! Not just pizza but also soups, salads, sides, desserts, and drinks. Good for omnivores, GF, and vegetarians. Thanks to Abrams Books, I have a giveaway going on on my blog (USA only) https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/05/weekend-cooking-giveaway-of-genuine.html
This week's round-up: 10 thrillers I'd look for if I were going to BookExpo this year. This one and Rene Denfeld's THE BUTTERFLY GIRL are probably my top two picks, though they all sound good to me. As always: look up the titles here on Litsy or check out my post (https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/05/10-thrillers-to-look-forward-to-or-find.html)
I love this book. I reviewed it on my blog recently, but tonight I made rhubarb-strawberry slab pie. I did good on the lattice but the crimping needs work. Oh well taste is everything. Thanks to Abrams for the review copy.
I‘ve been loving this series and am hoping to finish this installment today. First day reading on the deck (which isn‘t completely set up yet). This is a sci-fi action series with anthropological / colonization themes. Happy Saturday you all!
Sob! 😭 I can't attend BEA (BookExpo) this year, but if I could go, here are just some of the general fiction titles I'd be looking for. Fall is going to be A-MAZE-ING -- your wish list is going to explode. 📚📚📚 Look up the titles here on Litsy or check out my blog post https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/05/13-novels-for-your-wish-list-or-what-to.ht...
I think this was my first Peter Swanson. Well-plotted thriller. Even if you guess the twist, the behavior of the characters holds true. 🎧 Sophie Amos & Graham Halstead do a really nice job narrating. Amos has the bulk of the #audiobook — good characterizations & pacing.
Pretty much everything I made from this book was awesome but this apple-bacon relish is *dangerously* delicious. If you don‘t eat it all by the spoonful 5 minutes after making it, try it on burgers, hot dogs/sausages, on crackers, as a dip for tortilla chips. I‘ll be sharing the recipe in a week or so. I love this book. Thanks Abrams books.
So I‘ll be grilling & baking while reading a Gothic thriller and a MG fun adventure set in NYC — Full range of #bookmail thanks to Workman, @penguinrandomhouse and @VikingBooks
Two thrillers on my doorstep today—one just out in paperback; the other a long wait till October. Good reading ahead.
I‘m sooo behind on my reviews. A giant post in the works tomorrow. These are only some of the books I‘ve read over the last couple of weeks. 🎧 audio, digital, & print books #OhMyAchingReviewBrain
This week‘s round up: memoir, thrillers, rom-coms, and more. Though geared to teens they all have adult crossover appeal. Look the books up here on Litsy or see my thoughts on my blog: https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/05/7-contemporary-stories-that-tackle.html?m=...
Only 15 days till this beauty hits the stores. Many thanks to Disney Hyperion for the cool swag—blue tooth speaker, ear buds, pens, guitar pick key chain.
Did you see the piñata cake episode of Grace & Frankie? This book will show you how to make your own version. Very fun and festive for the sprinkle lovers out there. I made the Fairy Toast cake. Easy and pretty. Thank to Abrams Books for a copy of the cookbook.
Bottom to top: twisty thriller set in the political world of Phoenix, a novel of family secrets set in the 1800s in England & Caribbean, and historical fiction set in 1936 Tupelo, MIssissippi, in the aftermath of a devastating tornado. Great #summerreading ahead thanks to @WilliamMorrowBooks
Holy cow. This trilogy is so good. Colonization of a very dangerous planet & how people adapt. Original colonizers vs native creatures vs late arrivals from Earth who have no clue about what they face in a new world. I need book 3 NOW
Saturday morning baking. Savory scones! (Review on my blog next week) thanks to Abrams Books
Starting out spring with an awesome batch of cookbooks. I‘ll be talking about all of these on my blog over the next few weeks. #WeekendCooking and thanks to the #AbramsDinnerParty & Abrams Books
Gawk! This book starts off bursting with action — then introduces believable characters and good world building. Only about 1/3 in but totally hooked. Start of a trilogy, and all books are available.
What I did tonight while listening to this epic fantasy. 🎧 I have mixed thoughts about the #audiobook, but this whole wheat sunflower seed bread is going to be great. #bakersoflitsy
Why a beer with a Peter May book? His newest mystery is set Belgium, tho 2 Scotsmen have roles to play. Murder, dirty politicians, conspiracy ... #MarchReads 1 @Quercus_USA
Whoa. I could not stop listening to this thriller. Nicely done & well researched. Those of you—like me—who are outdoorsy or who love dogs will esp. like this. 🎧 mostly read by Emily Rankin & Robert Fass. Really well done: good characterizations & excellent tension/pacing. Put this on your wish list in any media (trigger warning)
Such a sweet story with good lessons about friendship and being true to oneself. Good characters and just enough rom com to be fun but not so much to make it silly. I also recommend her 1st book. 🎧 audiobook performance by Soneela Nanjani was excellent. Vikas Adam has a small part, but his performance also good.
I love books in translation. Here are my January picks. Find out more by searching for the titles here on Litsy or on my blog https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/01/6-books-in-translation-to-read-in.html?m=1
Celebrating this week‘s release of DRAGON PEARL #dragonpearlrrp thanks to @DisneyBooks & @BigHoncho Love me some good swag & love Rick Riordan
Tonight‘s dinner brought to you thanks to this book and the nice ppl at Cali‘flour Kitchen & Abrams Books. Review soon on my blog.
I was curious about this award-winning crime story translated from Korean. I bailed on about page 80. It was weird in a good way, but I just haven‘t felt compelled to pick it up again. I‘m officially abandoning it.
My first Friday roundup of the year. 7 new thrillers written by women. Find the titles here on Litsy or see short descriptions on my blog. https://www.bethfishreads.com/2019/01/7-new-thrillers-written-by-women.html?m=1
Listening to jazzy #Christmas music and getting organized before the day‘s activities. Happy day to those who celebrate. #coffee
Loved this memoir with recipes. Hood talks about family, motherhood, marriage, love, and loss — and the food that ties us to memories and loved ones. Recipes included. 🎧 Nina Alvamar‘s performance was great, but if you want to make any of the recipes, you‘ll want to read this in print.
I‘ve read other Peter May books but somehow missed this trilogy, set in the Outer Hebrides. I loved the atmosphere, the characters, the secrets. Can you ever escape your past? Detective Macleod returns to his native island to solve a murder but ends up facing his own demons too. 🎧 Peter Forbes‘s performance was terrific and I loved hearing how the Gaelic is pronounced. Looking forward to book 2 (w/ a wee dram & shortbread)
Fascinating look at the women of the Gilded Age and the contrast between US high society and the European nobility. 🎧 Clare Corbett did a fine job narrating.
🎧🎧🎧 8 audiobooks near the top of my list. This doesn‘t include mysteries (can you say “Lethal White”?) cause the list would have been too long. Info on Litsy or my blog. https://www.bethfishreads.com/2018/09/8-audiobooks-to-listen-to-in-september.htm...
I started this last night and I‘m totally hooked. For other new fantasy see my roundup or look up the titles here. https://www.bethfishreads.com/2018/09/4-fantasies-to-read-this-fall.html?m=1
