Two Can Keep a Secret
Two Can Keep a Secret | Karen M. Mcmanus
The New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying, Karen M. McManus, is back with an all-new, page-turning mystery perfect for fans of Riverdale! Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery's never been there, but she's heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows. The town is picture-perfect, but it's hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone's declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing. Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she's in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous--and most people aren't good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it's safest to keep your secrets to yourself. Praise for Karen M. This is a decent enough YA mystery/thriller. Not earth shattering, no aha moments but still it managed to hold my attention. The last line was the best part.

This is one book where I was so invested in the storyline that I needed to finish it before I went to sleep at night. As always, Karen McManus blew me away with her writing style and ability to really throw in a shock factor. I literally could not guess the ending of this book, which is why I loved it so much. I think One of Us is Lying was a little more intense, because of the multiple POVs, but I HIGHLY recommend this thriller!

Pretty standard YA fare. A good mystery for teens, but I prefer the sharper teeth of adult whodunnits. That‘s just me!

I enjoy reading YA mysteries even as I find myself thinking, “you should be more careful!” anytime the main character asks potential suspects dangerous questions. I enjoyed this one as much as One of Us is Lying. I even woke up a little early to finish it before work, which is a big deal as I love sleep.

I really like this author. She has a strong creative voice in the thriller genre. She really takes an idea and brings a lot of elements together to make it entertaining and suspenseful. This book is about generations of missing girls and murder centered in a town with a horror theme park at its core. There are so many interesting pieces of this story that made it hard to put this one down!

OnlyYoo I thought it was kind of fun all the different theories the main character came up with! 3mo

I really liked this book, although I liked One of Us is Lying much better. The ending was kind of anticlimactic, but I liked the characters and their relationships. There was a little more diversity in this book, with one of the main characters being mixed, and two side characters being LGBT (but that‘s not their defining characteristic!). Anyway, if you‘re a fan of thrillers, especially the YA type, here‘s a book for you!

Good, suspenseful read that had me laughing out loud at parts. This would make a good movie. I really enjoyed the main characters. I liked One of Us is Lying better. For some reason I‘m more critical of when the bad guys are revealed. It‘s so hard to make sure it‘s not cheesy. A fun YA title overall!

History bleeds into present when another homecoming queen goes missing in this town where girls go missing and don‘t come back. It is a good teen mystery but I didn‘t find it as frothily engrossing as “One of us is Lying”.

I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. The last line of the book almost bumped me to a 4 star, honestly. Great finish. The rest of the story was fun too, very YA. Reminded a bit of a CW show, or Pretty Little Liars. And not just because the title includes words from the theme song. This was a guilty pleasure book for me, so I will definitely be picking up other Karen McManus books soon.

LogiKitty Is this the sequel to One of Us is Lying? 6mo
tracey38 I liked this one, too. I did get a Pretty Little Liars vibe to a degree, too. Especially with the title. 6mo

Karen M. McManus's Two Can Keep a Secret is a worthy follow-up to her first book One of Us Is Lying (which I loved!). In this excellent YA mystery, Ellery and her twin Ezra move to their mother's hometown, the site of several murders of young woman (including their mother Sadie's twin sister). The narrative alternates between Ellery and hometown boy Malcolm, whose older brother was a suspect in one of the murders. (continued in comments)

UnabridgedPod The plot unravels with perfect pacing as true crime fan Ellery develops theory after theory about both who is currently terrorizing the town and who committed the earlier crimes. McManus balances strong character development with an engaging and suspenseful plot. Great read!⠀

Though I think her first book was a little bit better, I still enjoyed this YA mystery/thriller. I liked this one better than One of Us is Lying, but it still had its own problems. Namely, there were too many secrets going on, some of which wrapped up too easily and some of which weren‘t answered clearly enough (don‘t want to spoil anything here). Still an enjoyable YA mystery though, and I will give major props to that chilling last line!

A high school student & her twin brother move in w/their grandma when their mom is sent to rehab. When another student goes missing, the town is a buzz w/ memories of 2 other girls who went missing years before. I was a bit disappointed in this one. It felt predictable & having one of the characters obsessed w/true crime felt like a distraction rather than a plot point. I really loved the author‘s 1st, One of Us Is Lying, and would recommend it.
