Pretty good. Kimberly Harrington was open and honest about her thoughts on marriage, societal expectations, and her experiences with the gradual dissolution of her own marriage. She also made it somewhat funny. Her writing didn‘t make her seem relatable but I definitely commiserated with her ex husband Jon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ddzmini One book I couldn‘t get into … marriage is work that‘s part of loving another person there is always room for improvement and understanding… I just couldn‘t get into her writing… I‘ll have to try again later 2y
EchoLogical @Ddzmini Agreed. As someone whose marriage is nearing its end, I read this book and found myself empathizing with her husband. It seems as though he wanted to stay married but the author was done working on their marriage. I think the author‘s writing was very dry, almost caustic but I can‘t say I blame her after reading her essay on dating again. It was a mess. Lol 2y

I did it, I reached my Goodreads goal!
This book was depressing yet validating. It‘s good to know that I‘m not a loser for struggling with a broken system. The author covers a plethora of reasons why millennials are burnout: competition, the gig economy, impossible expectations, disintegrating boundaries, and the list goes on. Well done but very dry.

Before yesterday, I hadn‘t posted in months because my life has been a real cluster. I haven‘t been reading much for pleasure lately. Instead, I‘ve been opting for NF titles to help me figure out wtf I‘m doing. Anywho, this tagged book didn‘t help at all. My marriage counselor assigned it to me and the whole book felt really outdated and full of weird stereotypes. The advice given felt like playing games.

These kinds of mysteries aren‘t really my thing but this was entertaining. The narration really complemented the story. It was a bit predictable but the journey made it worth reading even if you‘ve already guessed the outcome. 4/5

Seems to be a popular quote, probably resonated with a lot of readers. The book was an interesting read. It discusses different types of distractions and how to deal with them. It‘s ironic that the author is the same one who wrote “Hooked” and taught companies how to make their products more attention grabbing to consumers. Great model, I guess. Create a problem and sell the solution 🤷🏾‍♀️

charl08 I find these highlights distracting and have to turn them off! 4y
EchoLogical @charl08 That makes sense! I like seeing what other people highlight but honestly, I don‘t read in the kindle app very much so I never really thought about it that much. I usually read in Libby. 4y

Skipped posting last Sunday so here's what I've been reading for the past two weeks. Gonna focus on my biggest disappointment... Mythos was totally pointless, IMO. I love Greek mythology but this book didn't do anything for me at all. I'm not sure why people love it so much. He retold myths in a really dumb, watered down kind of way.

I wish I could "Eternal Sunshine" this book out of my brain! I hated it! It took me the whole week to read it and I didn't even start anything else because I just couldn't. Am I the only one who hated this book? Like who even is Sarah Knight anyway?!

Sace I think that was one I had to DNF. 4y
EchoLogical @Sace I wanted to bail but it got so many good reviews, I thought it would get better. 😣 I'm having a hard time putting my feelings into words but it definitely rubbed me the wrong way. The author seemed so out of touch and gave some of the worst advice. My takeaway from this is if you make enough money you can move away and stop giving a frick. 4y
SamAnne I didn‘t read this but your review reminds me of The Happiness Project which I hated- was for a book club. It made me a little angry. Rich people who can spend hours focused on what can make them the most happy, or in this case how to not give a crap. 4y
See All 7 Comments
EchoLogical @SamAnne Ahh! I've listened to Gretchen Rubin's podcast and I totally see the similarities, which is kinda crazy because I don't hate her. Lol 4y
SamAnne @Echological I haven‘t heard her podcast. And I will admit that I DNF‘d the book. I think my issue is with the concept that happiness is the end all. I love feeling happy, content, etc, but rewarding things in life often involve some pain, difficulty and unhappiness. These kinds of books feel even more out of place during Covid times? 4y
Sace @EchoLogical EXACTLY! Some of us don't have the option of not giving a f*ck! Yup. You nailed exactly how I felt about it. 4y

So this week's reading wasn't as good as the week before but I enjoyed the tagged book. Cute illustrations with a fun, relatable story. I read it after my daughter named it her favorite book. Harbor Me was also a good read but Jacqueline Woodson can do no wrong, IMO.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I love reading picks my nephew or nieces loved, such unique reads I never would have stumbled on myself most likely. 4y
EchoLogical @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Same here. I try to keep her reading willingly so I'll read what she recommends or we'll read something together. Currently working on 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @EchoLogical I understand that. I read the entire Series of Unfortunate Events with my nephew that way when he was in middle school, close enough we could talk about the plot, inching ahead so he‘d be motivated to catch-up and very careful not to get too far ahead that he could still beat me to the end of the book. He was a struggle to get to read anything at that age, so in HS when he said he liked a book from school, I usually read them. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @EchoLogical The Creature in the Pines looks really good from the description, by the way. 4y
