Pretty good. Kimberly Harrington was open and honest about her thoughts on marriage, societal expectations, and her experiences with the gradual dissolution of her own marriage. She also made it somewhat funny. Her writing didn‘t make her seem relatable but I definitely commiserated with her ex husband Jon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Guys look! I think I might be the first to post my goodies from the #blitsyswap but can you blame me? Thank you so much @tmjg1978 I can‘t wait to take this stuff to work with me!!!!
I did it, I reached my Goodreads goal!
This book was depressing yet validating. It‘s good to know that I‘m not a loser for struggling with a broken system. The author covers a plethora of reasons why millennials are burnout: competition, the gig economy, impossible expectations, disintegrating boundaries, and the list goes on. Well done but very dry.
“…face or their hands or the love they gave you.”
“The world feels safer somehow if we share our pain. It becomes more manageable. And by sharing our pain, we inspire others to share theirs. We are so much less alone if we learn to wear our imperfections proudly…”
It wasn‘t too bad. Quick read, with meh characters, and a few plot holes. Brought me one book closer to meeting my #Goodreads goal: 15/20
“We often describe the emotional pain we experience after a significant rejection as analogous to being punched in the stomach or stabbed in the chest…brain scans show that the very same brain regions get activated when we experience rejection as when we experience physical pain.”
THIS
I‘m always astounded when someone has put the words of my heart to paper.
Revisiting some Rupi Kaur to help soothe my soul. I read it years ago and didn‘t really get it but now I do. I guess you have to be in certain headspace to feel it.
“Millennials became the first generation to fully conceptualize themselves as walking college resumes…we came to understand ourselves, consciously or not, as ‘human capital‘…”
Okay but I hate it here 😭
Before yesterday, I hadn‘t posted in months because my life has been a real cluster. I haven‘t been reading much for pleasure lately. Instead, I‘ve been opting for NF titles to help me figure out wtf I‘m doing. Anywho, this tagged book didn‘t help at all. My marriage counselor assigned it to me and the whole book felt really outdated and full of weird stereotypes. The advice given felt like playing games.
I‘m a little misty eyed posting this because @Chelleo is so frickin thoughtful and I appreciate her so much! I forgot to sign up for the #BlitsyHistoryMonthSwap because my life is one huge cluster right now but she sent me these goodies anyway. Just look at this pouch! Fricking gorgeous! Thank you so much!
Starting off slowly but no complaints here...
These kinds of mysteries aren‘t really my thing but this was entertaining. The narration really complemented the story. It was a bit predictable but the journey made it worth reading even if you‘ve already guessed the outcome. 4/5
Whew! This was a doozy, in the best way. Compelling story, with a well written dynamic between the twins. I definitely felt and related to their sibling bond. Their actions and mental states were made so relatable to readers. A great first novel from Diana Clarke. I can‘t wait to see what‘s next. 4/5
NOT MY IMAGE but someone shared this stack of books written by Indigenous authors and I wanted to share it here.
So this happened a few months ago but I can‘t remember if I posted about it. I‘m currently reading my 61st book of the year.
Seems to be a popular quote, probably resonated with a lot of readers. The book was an interesting read. It discusses different types of distractions and how to deal with them. It‘s ironic that the author is the same one who wrote “Hooked” and taught companies how to make their products more attention grabbing to consumers. Great model, I guess. Create a problem and sell the solution 🤷🏾♀️
Last one from this book... I‘m clearing out old pics and this is somewhat easier than typing everything out on Goodreads
Another good quote that hit way too close to home...
Still posting about this book because I can‘t get over it. I could‘ve written these exact words. Seriously.
This book! 😭❤️ I shouldn‘t have read it because it struck way too close to home but I didn‘t know that it would. Glennon Doyle writes about anxiety and depression in a way that I could never articulate. I honestly love this book. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
...in which she resolves to not let it bother her, the loneliness, the responsibility, the nagging inner critic who uses a bullhorn to broadcast into her inner ear she cannot manage everything, she cannot manage anything, that it is all her own doing, her undoing that is. Her hands begin to tremble...
Thank you @Chelleo, this definitely made my day!
Skipped posting last Sunday so here's what I've been reading for the past two weeks. Gonna focus on my biggest disappointment... Mythos was totally pointless, IMO. I love Greek mythology but this book didn't do anything for me at all. I'm not sure why people love it so much. He retold myths in a really dumb, watered down kind of way.
Definitely a better week in reading! I finished the tagged book today and I'm still sorting through my feelings about it so no star rating yet.
I wish I could "Eternal Sunshine" this book out of my brain! I hated it! It took me the whole week to read it and I didn't even start anything else because I just couldn't. Am I the only one who hated this book? Like who even is Sarah Knight anyway?!
Wait what? Who are these people wishing they could get up at 6 a.m. and go to the gym??? This combines two things that I absolutely abhor: waking up early and working out. 🤣
So this week's reading wasn't as good as the week before but I enjoyed the tagged book. Cute illustrations with a fun, relatable story. I read it after my daughter named it her favorite book. Harbor Me was also a good read but Jacqueline Woodson can do no wrong, IMO.
Gonna try to post a weekly wrap up regularly... This sheltering in place this has been great for my TBR stack. These were all great reads but the tagged book was definitely my favorite.
Such a compelling and insightful memoir. Gottlieb has lived interesting life and proven herself to be excellent writer. This book is honestly everything that I look for in a memoir.
Only took me 9 months and a global pandemic but I'm finally starting this one. My husband was so excited when he saw me reading it. He can't wait to talk about it. 😆
Y'all check out these goodies! My (lack) of photography skills doesn't do any of them justice but they're awesome. My daughter is already plotting on taking the bookmark and my husband has been eyeing my books 😆 @LeshaMac Thank you so much for everything and @Chelleo thanks again for putting this together 💗✊🏽 #blitsy #blitsyhistorymonth #BHMSwap

"It was not bad advice. She didn't want me to be dependent on a man. For her, money was freedom and power...The advice had an unintended side effect, though: I work hard, all the time, but when I fail to make an adequate amount of money, I feel terror... I've set back the cause of feminism and endangered my freedom. I don't just feel broke; I feel doomed." (pg 109)
"Every decision you make in life sends you down a path that could turn out to be a wrong one..."
Y'all, this is what I think every time I make a major decision and it's the absolute worst. This is why I struggle so badly when I have to choose. ?
So I think I'm technically too young to be part of the target audience of this book but its description resonated with me so I'm reading it anyway ??♀️
"... Generation X is America's neglected middle child...a low-slung, straight line bridge between two noisy behemoths. We are the Jan Brady of generations..."
Y'all I'm dying ???
Y‘all... Jason Reynolds replied to my comment on IG and I‘m dying because I frickin love him! Guess I gotta leave my husband now! 🤣
Okay so I just finished His Dark Materials and I might be obsessed. What an adventure! The plot, the characters, the world building were all fantastic. I‘m gonna keep reading everything set in this universe.
Just finished my first book of the new year in a day!
Light, enjoyable novel about a young Muslim woman trying to figure out the rest of her life (both professionally and romantically).
⭐⭐⭐
I get the hype.
"The president's campaign involved the promises of cutting taxes for everyone, eliminating the national debt, and increasing spending on both social policy and national defense...It is as if a farmer said he were taking an ?from the henhouse, boiling it whole and serving it to his wife, also poaching it & serving it to his children, & then returning it to the henhouse unbroken, & then watching as the ? hatches."
