So I was really excited to start this novel. Daisy Jones and the Six is still one of my favorite books of the past few years. But I‘ve found I‘ve had to slog through this one. It‘s not the narrator. I credit Julia Whelan for me making it this far. If I weren‘t so stubborn, I‘d DNF, but I don‘t have much longer and I‘m hoping for a payoff. Has anyone else had this experience with this book?

Bookwormjillk I didn‘t love it either 3y

Mary Jane | Jessica Anya Blau
Mehso-so

I had high hopes for this book. It had so much potential. I connected with Mary Jane and I appreciated her relationship with her young charge. As she lied to her parents for more time away from home, I wondered where this would lead. Where if lead was just okay with me. I‘m glad I read the book, but I was hoping for another Daisy Jones and the Six, which it was not.

I started a new book today. I love how this story is starting. I can relate to being a sheltered girl experiencing the larger word through the world of babysitting. The narrator, Caitlin Kinnunen, is new to me, but perfect for Mary Jane. I have a feeling I‘m going to enjoy this one.

I had some time to kill this morning, so I stopped by Barnes & Noble and picked up these two books. The Son of Good Fortune sounds so good and relevant. God Shot is about a cult. What‘s not to love about that? I hope everyone‘s Sunday is relaxing and full of good books.

Mother May I: A Novel | Joshilyn Jackson

I started this audiobook as I ran errands yesterday. I absolutely adore Joshilyn Jackson as an author and as a narrator. I was not expecting this storyline whatsoever (I don‘t read blurbs most of the time for authors I love). On top of that, there‘s a male POF in this novel as well. I‘m loving it all. Jackson does a decent job narrating Marshall. She‘s got me on the edge of my seat. Ack! Why do we have to work on Mondays?

My first #readathon book is finished. I‘d already listened to the first 2/3. I finished it up to give my eyes a rest and finish up my laundry. Sometimes you just need a book that makes you laugh. Sometimes you just need a book that makes you feel good. In this case, I found both. I need to be in the right mood for Bachman. When I am, he always delivers. Marin Ireland does a fantastic job bringing each of these anxious people to life. Recommended!

Riley and I highly recommend Jennifer Weiner‘s latest. Her work just keeps getting better and better. This novel takes place in my home state of Michigan. The little details there initially brought me in, but the stories of Jo and Bettie were compelling. This book spoke to me so much as a newly single mom of teenage girls. Weiner nailed the MI and the mom details. It also spoke to the pain and injustice in the US from the 60s through today.

Last weekend I went to the Virginia Festival of the Book in Charlottesville. I went to a panel where Greer Macallister speak. I just had to read it. While I wouldn‘t consider it a thriller as it was billed, I enjoyed the book and would most definitely recommend it. Who wouldn‘t be interested in a book where the narrator gets herself admitted to an asylum to save her sister?

In the end, I enjoyed this book. The last six hours of the audiobook were compulsive for me. I just found the story too long. There were enough surprises without the need, I feel, for the side story with the detective. I don't know how memorable this will be for me.

The narrator's, while not great, got the job done. I wouldn't not listen to them again. I also wouldn't seek out listening to them again.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the idea of a new generation of detectives in the Holmes & Watson families and the increased tension they have at boarding school. I get how you can be furious and frustrated with someone and then have your heart melt when you're reminded of who they are to you. It's been a rough few months for me and Emma, but catching her like this (on a bale of hay no less - yikes!) makes me happy to be her Mom. She's worth it all.

I've really dug into this book over the past couple of days. Its fascinating. This paragraph questioning the concept that God doesn't give you more than you can handle has made me think all morning. This may not be the most uplifting read for a long holiday weekend, but I'm constantly drawn to it, so I'll take it.

Megabooks This is a really hard concept for people to tell you when you've had a lot of stuff happen in your life. It's like, should I pray to be weak? 7y
LitHousewife @Booksandcooks I agree and I'm sure I've said that to others because I know I've said it to myself for reassurance. Sometimes I don't think through those traditional things I say. When my grandmother passed away, she left her family her life story. I had the honor of typing the story for the rest of the family. In her life story, she included her favorite books from childhood. Some of these A List Audible titles are not great. Not all Hollywood actors have what it takes to narrate. For $1.95, I took a chance. Let's hope that Michael C. Hall knocks it out the park.

I have walked the UVA campus and the mall many times without fear. That these beautiful places have been sullied by bigotry, white supremacy, and violence is heartbreaking. This book was a slow read for me. Then, toward the end, it just got weird. While far from the worst book I've ever read, it's not making me jump to read anything else by Sadie Jones. Not my cup of tea.

emtobiasz Agreed! I'm not sure what this book was trying to do... ☕️ 👻 7y
LitHousewife And the horse storyline was just ridiculous all around. Maybe I should have gone thumbs down. Boo! 7y

Tonight, with more than a few tears, I finished Les Misérables. What a beautiful, beautiful book. Jean Valjean will forever be in my heart. I'm so glad that I finally met him. Victor Hugo, thank you.

#LesMisLovesCompany was one of the best reading decisions I've ever made.
