Special Announcement... | University of Michigan. Summer session. Colleges of Engineering and Architecture

Unfortunately Sumisbooks has left Litsy and as #24B4Monday was her idea we are unable to continue with this popular Readathon at the end of each month.

I have been giving thought to a new Readathon for the last weekend of each month to replace it., and will be making an announcement on this tomorrow.

One question would you rather this was a four day readathon (Friday - Monday) each month or a five day Readathon (Thursday - Monday).

This app does not have that capability of notification, unless you‘re tagged. Not all people have FB though, so we do our best to spread the word here, too! ♥️♥️♥️ 6y

But there is no function to make a post that alerts everyone here, so is a conundrum about this app. It did mention that when it goes down, there may be a pop up alert at that time, if I understood correctly 6y

kgriffith Full disclosure: I‘ve worked for LibraryThing since 2014, but been a member of the website since 2007, and I love it. Some of the active social interaction I would personally like to see on LT (like Talk notifications) is supplemented by what Litsy did with intent, so the two together really do give me a complete bookish experience. 6y

LectricSheep I think it could be a good thing— it doesn‘t seem like Litsy gets a lot of administrative oversight. I like that LT is acknowledging how the platforms differ. 6y

Chili I don‘t like that to enter more than 200 items you have to pay. Granted it‘s not a lot, but it really bugs me. 6y

dariazeoli I hope they don‘t change Litsy too much. I think I had a Librarything account years ago but didn‘t want to pay for the over 200 items level. Goodreads is perfect for my logging needs. If my feed starts looking like FB I‘ll be disappointed. 6y

TimSpalding On the 200 books thing, well give any Litsy member who want an account a free one. A small fee was how LibraryThing succeeded without having ads. It created members not “users.” But we make most of our money selling software to libraries now. 6y

quietlycuriouskate I'm not familiar with Library Thing. I'm glad it's not Facebook. They'd better not take away the chronological feed, or start letting algorithms choose which posts I see, or spam the feed with adverts... You get the idea. 6y

The_Literary_Jedi I‘ve used LT for a while to keep my books but dropped off once I found GR especially for the 200 books limit; I‘ve been recently using it again and I like the cataloging aspect of LT. It‘s nice to know Litsy won‘t become a new IG or FB and can remain a dedicated book lover platform 6y

Andrew65 To be fair to @TimSpalding I have found him to be a great book enthusiast and a man who has stuck by his word not to sell out to the big boys, e.g. Amazon. He also offered us a totally free account when Shelfari Closed (grrrrrrr. Amazon! - still not forgiven them). I run a couple of groups on there and can see how the two could complement each other (and I don‘t work for Library thing or know anybody personally that does). (edited) 6y

melbeautyandbooks @andrew65 The non chronological timeline is something instagram did and many people hate it. Your timeline will not be in the order which people made the post. Meaning, you can be scrolling through on Monday and see stuff posted from 3 days ago and not see stuff that that same person posted 5 minutes ago. You completely miss stuff that folks you follow posted. Or you see it days later. It‘s frustrating. And it‘s hard to tell when stuff was posted 6y

ReadingRover I have the same worries as everyone else. Definitely don‘t want a non chronological timeline, don‘t want to pay if I want to join LT to log more than 200 books, and I couldn‘t bear it if Litsy because impersonal and not the friendly community I‘ve come to know and love. rwmg I've been a member of LT for a very long time. I joined as a life member in its early days. I love its social features, which are more like discussion boards and have found it to be just as friendly and reader oriented as Litsey. 6y

BookishMe @TimSpalding thank you for your assuring replies. I am sure you will understand why some will prefer Litsy to other apps/ platform. Litsy's interface is user-friendly and I believe you can see the strong community spirit here. Hope the good things will be left as they are. 6y

It‘s been a while since I‘ve posted here. Life (work) has gotten in the way of my reading. I haven‘t finished book in print since mid September. I‘ve continued to listen to audiobooks, but I‘ve really been blah. Then I found out something awesome: I‘m an Audies judge! This is quite an honor. The one downside is that I can‘t share the category or audiobooks I‘m judging. Still, I‘m happy to be a part of this event. Like Frazier, I‘m listening. 🙂
