An hour and a half after three-year-old Danielle Gaston is kidnapped from the Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, a new web site pops up on the Wold Wide Web--featuring Danielle Gaston. She's isolated in a room with no food and only water to drink. This live-action web page is available to all net users around the world and is soon rebroadcast on CNN and other networks. Since Danielle is the only child of a popular country & western singer and a senator, her case is a high profile one--and likely to end in heartbreak. Who better to take the fall for a bad outcome than Polly Kelly? At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Help me decide on what next to read! I have 21 books from my mom to read. I can't decide. Have you read any? What would you recommend?

MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Nice selection! Unfortunately I can‘t make any recommendations on a specific book here, but I do love Stephen King, so I‘ll throw my vote in for his. 😅 4y
Chrissyreadit You could always write titles on scraps of paper and pick one. I often have a hard time choosing for myself. 4y
Chrissyreadit This is where #book spin with @TheAromaofBooks comes in handy! 4y
See All 21 Comments
Ruthiella I agree with @Chrissyreadit , let chance decide! 😀 The anticipation of what will pop up is fun. 4y
Kaila-ann I have quite a few of these on my wishlist but I haven‘t read any of these yet 🤷🏻‍♀️. 4y
Amandajoy I agree with #bookspin! You could also put all the titles in a jar and draw one. 4y
ItsAnotherJen @Chrissyreadit @Amandajoy What is this #bookspin you speak of? I've never done it! 😅 4y
Chrissyreadit @ItsAnotherJen each month we post 20 books from our TBR and @TheAromaofBooks picks a number to correspond with the books. 4y
Twainy 😆 I‘ve only read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, I liked it. Sandra Brown is usually an easy read. The names in a jar sounds like a great idea! Good luck! 🤗 4y
Amandajoy What @Chrissyreadit said. It‘s great! Helps with the indecisiveness. 4y
TheAromaofBooks Hey!! I host #BookSpin, so like these lovely ladies were saying, anyone who wants to posts a list of 20 books, & I draw two numbers on the 2nd of every month & everyone reads those numbers from their lists!! Pretty simple haha Let me know if you'd like to be added to the tag list for July's reminder & if you want to join this month (since you already have a list!), the numbers were 10 & 3!! 4y
ItsAnotherJen @TheAromaofBooks Yes, add me in. That would be great! Thank you so much. I'll start with #3 'The Hiding Place' by David Bell and #10 'Irene's Children' by Tilar J. Mazzco for this month. This is going to be a great help. 🙂 4y
ItsAnotherJen I mean 'Irena's Children'..I hate when I have a typo and I can't edit my comment to fix it.. 🙃😁 4y
TheAromaofBooks Yay! Glad to have you along!!! I would love it if you tag me in your reviews, as it makes me happy to see how people are getting along with their picks!! I'm also hoping to have some kind of giveaway at the end of the year, where every #BookSpin review counts as an entry, so I check them off as we go!! 4y
marleed Bookspin is perfect for your situation. You have some really good WWII historical fiction in there! 4y
ItsAnotherJen @marleed Yes, my mom is a fan of historical fiction and apparently books with 'girl' in the title. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Lilac Girls, The Flight Girls, The Girl They Left Behind, The Lost Girls of Paris, The Girls She Left Behind...😅 4y
ItsAnotherJen @TheAromaofBooks Yes, I'll be sure to tag you in the reviews!! 4y
RenePenn I‘ve read both Sandra Brown‘s books. I‘ve been reading her books for years and enjoy them. They are usually a quick easy read when you don‘t want anything too heavy. 4y
ItsAnotherJen @RenePenn That's good to know! Thank you. I haven't read any books by her yet. These will be my first. 4y
intothehallofbooks I loved Once A Midwife by Patricia Harman-that series is one of my top, top favorites!! Patience Murphy is one of the BEST characters. I wonder if you‘ve read the previous books in this series: The Midwife of Hope River and The Reluctant Midwife? This one is certainly fine as a stand-alone, but the two previous books are so, so rich with the stories of the same characters in this book. 4y
ItsAnotherJen @intothehallofbooks no! I haven't read the others. I didn't know it was part of a series 4y

I got a new phone and I have some audiobooks from audiobook sync's summer freebies that I can't figure out how to transfer over. I looked up how much they would cost to replace and, as I suspected, it is prohibitive. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'd love to keep the books without having to keep the phone if at all possible.

Megabooks There‘s no way to just download and sign into the app with your account name/email and password? I‘m not familiar with this service, but that‘s how it‘s worked for me with other services. 5y
RiaWritten @Megabooks Unfortunately it seems they're not located in the cloud anywhere. When I downloaded the app on the new device it had no record of them. 5y
Megabooks @RiaWritten Yikes!!!!!! I‘m so sorry! 5y
RiaWritten @Megabooks It's ok! I've essentially decided to hold onto the other phone just to listen to those. Maybe I'll be able to knock them all out in a year! Could be a fun challenge. 😸 5y

Placing a book order now. Because of my 🤧 I can‘t think straight. What books/series are we planning on reading?

Andrew65 In April we will be reading The Armada Boy by Kate Ellis, Book 2 in the Wesley Peterson Series. Also onto book 3 of our other series : (edited) 6y
Andrew65 Mo Hayder 6y
See All 39 Comments
Andrew65 Also said at some point we‘d read 6y
Andrew65 Next Maeve Binchy 6y
EadieB I‘ve read this series and enjoyed it a lot: 6y
EadieB We said we wanted to read: Susanna Gregory and Elizabeth George 6y
EadieB My series I am going to read: Roy Grace by Peter James, Detective Lennon by Louise Voss and Mark Edwards, Ben Cooper and Diane Fry by Stephen Booth, Detective Kim Stone by Angela Marsons, DI Murphy and DS Rossi by Luca Veste, Jessica Daniel by Kerry Wilkinson, DCI Daly by Denzil Meyrick (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Not heard of Claire McGowan. Some great series on your list. Read most but still need to get to Angela Marsons (but will be reading those on Librarything), Kerry Wilkinson, Susanna Gregory, Elizabeth George. But no capacity to start these for the next few months. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘ll be involved with finishing my century of books too but we will be ready when we need to start another series. lol (edited) 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 @EadieB I remembered correctly! Both Mo‘s and Jane‘s number 3 have gone missing from the library, but I‘ve asked them to buy new ones. I need to start a new hisfic series soon, but if Andrew is not ready to read Gregory or George yet I‘ll start another series. Maybe 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB @Andrew65 Very keen on reading Heresy! I found I list of books I was meant to order. I have written House of Shadows on the list. No author. I have not marked it on any TBR. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads possibly Paul Doherty is the author 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB 👍🏽 Probably! Obrigado! 6y
EadieB I have a lot of Doherty‘s books. Andrew has The Tainted Relic books and wants to read them too @Tove_Reads @andrew65 (edited) 6y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 When are you ready to start a new hisfic series? 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Are they good? 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I have not started them yet but I want to soon! 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Have you ever read this series: 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Or Barbara Hambly‘s series: 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Nope! Need to check them out. I feel like crap now due to a 🤧 and I can‘t concentrate on reading at all. Feeling sorry for myself so I‘m checking out books. 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Hope you feel better. I have a diffuser that I use with essential oils that helps my sinuses. Eucalyptus works well. 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Strange. House of shadows is number 10. 6y
Tove_Reads @eadieb I inhale essential oils. This crap is in my lungs. 6y
EadieB Here‘s another book: 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Can‘t be that one. Supernatural is not my thing. 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads How about this one: 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB I was thinking it could be that one. Have no clue why I didn‘t mention the author. 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Out of all the series you mentioned the library has two, and a few books of some series. I hate this! 6y
EadieB @Tove_Reads Your library needs another plan about getting these books and keeping them available. 6y
Tove_Reads @EadieB Yeah, but we have books in so many languages which makes it harder. They are very good at getting requested books though! 6y
Andrew65 We are finishing CJ Sansom this month (now 74% through Tombland) so can start another Historical Fiction Series next month. Will it be S. J . Paris‘s series (Heresy) or Susanna Gregory‘s Series (A Plague on Both your Houses). I‘m assuming it will be the Matthew Bartholomew Series we are reading by Gregory as opposed to the Thomas Chaloner Series. @EadieB @Tove_Reads (edited) 6y
Andrew65 I actually own Nicola Cornick‘s House of Shadows and have heard great things about it. I think it was from @Melissa_J and trust her judgement on historical fiction implicitly! 👍😊🙌 @EadieB @Tove_Reads 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Maybe we should read House of Shadows before we start another series. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Sounds a possible plan. 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 If I remember correctly I think we chose Chaloner. Don‘t remember why anymore. Maybe due to my library? 6y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads My library has the first one so that is good. 6y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 I‘ve ordered some good books we are planning on reading. Let‘s hope I get them! Then I‘m ready to go, Gregory, George, Parris, I want to read them all! Let me know when we start and with whom! Don‘t forget Code to Zero in April, as well! @EadieB (edited) 6y

Recommendations desperately needed!

I feel like all I‘ve read recently are very serious novels about abuse, harassment and bigotry and I just don‘t have it in me to read anything emotionally difficult right now. I don‘t need books that are particularly laugh out loud funny but novels or memoirs that are just like, not actively traumatising? I adored crazy rich Asians for example, I love Agatha Christie, I need something light! Help pls

Booksnchill You don‘t specify genre but my last few “palatte cleansing” reads were Hope Never Dies (if you like the cover it is for you) The Murderbot Diaries (4 novellas and the sweetest robot) and A Talent For Murder (fictional account of Agatha Christie‘s lost days). 6y
BarbaraBB I loved the above book and it came to mind reading your post. 6y

Billypar My favorite in recent memory was Jenny Lawson's memoir, Let's Pretend This Never Happened. 6y

Simona My last ‘funny‘ book was 6y
Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare PG Wodehouse is my go-to in times of crisis, especially the Jeeves and Wooster stories 6y

Okay I wondering if this every happened to any of you. I mailed two boxes for my swap Saturday morning. Saturday night I went to track the packages and it said that one of my packages was DELIVERED within an hour of dropping it off at the post office. The only problem is the package was not being sent to someone in the city were I live it was being sent to PA. I was hoping it was a mistake and the tracking would be updated. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Lovesbooks87 But it hasn't been updated. Has this ever happened to one of you and it was just a mistake and the package showed up where it needed to go or did my package it given to the wrong person or stolen. The package is supposed to be delivered today and lucky that it was insured. So I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else? (edited) 6y
JoScho Yeah sometimes the tracking doesn‘t show up right and then it says delivered. I would give it a few days and then if it is still wonky or not delivered call them. Fingers crossed 🤞 6y

Lovesbooks87 @MicrobeMom yea it said saying that someone picked it up at the post office in Frederick were I mailed it an hour after I dropped it off. So that's why I think something is up! 6y

I know that my Litten friends can help with a writing question. Hubby is reviewing a paper by Australian authors for an international agricultural journal. In referring to an economic impact, they use “AUD$1,000” for example. Hubby asked for my help on this one, because it didn‘t look right to him. I can‘t find any definitive standard usage. The D and $ seem redundant to me. Any help, ideas, suggestions? Thanks!

Redwritinghood I have no authority in this area, but I agree that the D and $ together seem redundant. I have usually seen it written as AUD1000. 7y
wanderinglynn Typically you do indicate the country. Whether or not to use a $ sign is optional, but not wrong. 7y
CouronneDhiver I don‘t think it looks wrong. I quite often see dollar amounts shown as $100 USD, or $100 CAD... “dollars” are so common that specifying the country is helpful. 7y
Lynnsoprano @Redwritinghood @wanderinglynn @CouronneDhiver Thank you from both of us😊 Hubby has decided to leave it as is, and leave it to the discretion of the senior editor. It‘s an English language journal, but published out of the Netherlands. He‘s familiar with the stylistic differences as they pertain to scientific matters, but this was something he hadn‘t encountered before. 7y

Hey littens! I'm setting up a NetGalley account & I want to include my Litsy handle on the section of your profile where they ask where you talk about books. Is there a way you can link your Litsy account in a field? I'm drawing a total blank on how to do that...

mrozzz I couldn‘t figure it out... Litsy doesn‘t have a web component so I‘m not sure it‘s possible yet. A question for @TimSpalding 7y
Jess7 I wasn‘t able to do that either. 🤷🏻‍♀️😞 7y

GarthRanzz You can only link to posts. To do that, go to your posts click on the arrow by the stack and select copy. So for this post of yours it would look like this: GripLitGrl's post on Litsy http://litsy.com/p/R21VWm53d3Rm You‘ll have to put a space between Litsy and the http or it won‘t work. (edited) 7y
GripLitGrl Thanks I was hoping it was just me... @mrozzz @Jess7 @RaimeyGallant hoping @TimSpalding can answer or come up with a fix for this 7y

I‘ve had two Nooks in the past and both died a frustrating death — the batteries crapped out. I‘ve been trying to read on my iPad and it‘s killing my eyes. So I‘ve read the Amazon comments and now I need the opinion of those who really know. Would you recommend the Paperwhite if all I‘m wanting is an e-reader? I have iPads for everything else. Thanks!!!

GarthRanzz I love my iPad and just can‘t bring myself to use another e-reader when I have a good one in it. But the girlfriend loves her Kindle and has been dying to get a paperwhite for a while. I hear they are good. A friend at work swears by his. 7y
DGRachel Yes. I prefer the old school Kindle with no light, but if you‘re used to Nooks, the lighting on a Paperwhite won‘t phase you (I am crazy sensitive to blue light). My mom loves her Paperwhite. 7y
Ashley_Nicoletto Yes! I loved my paper white and I've always had such great luck and experiences with Kindle in general. 7y

GarthRanzz Oh, and if you have a Prime membership they have $40 off right now for the Paperwhite! 7y
xicanti I don't have one myself, but both my parents LOVE their Paperwhites. They're a nice size and weight, and the battery life seems good. 7y
Jadams89 @GarthRanzz I agree, I really wanted to just use my iPad, but my eyes just won‘t allow it. I didn‘t have that problem when my Nook actually worked. 7y
SassyBookworm I LOVE my paperwhite! It‘s perfect for reading outside or inside! Also it‘s wonderful at night as I can turn it down so low the light doesn‘t disturb the hubs! Battery life is wonderfully long, and it‘s small enough to fit in my purse so I can pack it anywhere! I‘ve had my current one since 2015! Best kindle ever!!! 7y
Jadams89 @Ashley_Nicoletto Good to hear! 7y
theresidentromantic I use my phone and my iPad and I have to say I am almost constantly talking myself down from getting a Kindle. I think Amazon's products are worth it. 7y
Jadams89 @DGRachel @GarthRanzz @Ashley_Nicoletto @xicanti @Chrysta23 @theresidentromantic Thanks for all your input! I think I‘m going to go for it. 7y
