I adored this prequel! Seeing Viv‘s backstory was lovely, Fern & her bookstore were a delight, & Satchel was hilarious. It felt a little too quickly resolved, & the epilogue felt a bit sequel bait, but overall I really enjoyed this! Even the romance! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Made my #bookspinbingo stack while I had a little energy. It took way more out of me than it should have, but my surgery recovery has been going so well, I‘ll only complain a little 🤣 @TheAromaofBooks

I kept expecting some exciting twist and it never showed up. Which I guess is the point? I hope it isn‘t that I dislike cozy fantasy. I adore Becky Chambers. I‘m sure a big part of it is that Baldree likes to use my biggest bookish pet peeve.

I did adore Satchel.

The prequel to Legends & Lattes (#Seriesread2025) and I loved hearing a bit of Viv‘s backstory. This was wonderful and I enjoyed every minute of it, especially the epilogue. Glad to hear that another book in this universe is coming out this year.

It took me so long to finally read these books and now I am hooked! I love the characters and the world and I want to read moremoremore!

This book felt like one giant hug in book form! It was so sweet and heartwarming that I wanted to stay forever in Murk with Viv and the gang!

It looks like a year in reading 2025 is off to a solid start!

I rarely feel this way, but I liked this follow-up prequel to Legends & Lattes more. The bookish interactions between the characters keeps the mood cozy & humorous, but there‘s so much more action brewing here. And I hope Baldree works Satchel into future books set in this fantasy world.

The observations about readers, writers, and bookshops in this one keep cracking me up!

Viv‘s first impression of this bookstore doesn‘t sound great, but I imagine the shop keep Fern will sway her toward reading. Comfy reading for Christmas Eve.

A great prequel! A bit more adventure than the first book, but the reviewer on the cover calls it “a warm hug of a book” and that is so accurate. If you like fantasy or DnD, and you want an easy read with a fun story, this is it. It stays true to Viv‘s character from the first book but doesn‘t feel repetitive. You can see her growth. Loved it and would read/listen again.

I‘m not sure if this is even my most recent #serieslove2024 grid, but it‘s the one I found in my collection! Anyway, this was a charming book and a lovely companion to Legends & Lattes. If there‘s more to the series, I‘ll be delighted, but if not I feel satisfied with how everything transpired.

Meanwhile, I bailed on Children of God. It was leaning too much into Vatican intrigue & I lost the thread. I plan to do 2025 series a little differently.

I needed another Kindle book to keep my reading streak going, so I downloaded this from Libby. I was going to read it slowly, just a couple chapters a day, but you know how that goes!

It‘s cozier than the “twisty domestic noir” that I was reading earlier for book club.

I had a truly awful day at work. It‘s the beginning of the peak season for the post office, all the equipment was breaking, and on top of all that, I had an ovarian cyst rupture while I was at work.

To come home to this on my porch, I burst into tears. What an incredibly thoughtful package @Bookzombie ! I did not have this book, and I am so excited to read it! I hope things are going well for you, and that you have a wonderful holiday season. 💖

It‘s safe to say that Travis Baldree is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I adore these characters and loved the story. It had many wholesome, cozy moments along with silly scenes and plenty of action in between. I loved Legends & Lattes and this prequel held up to its standards. I enjoyed seeing Viv when she was 20 years younger and the steps that led her to where she was in the first book. I hope we‘ll get another book out of Baldree soon.

I really had to read the prequel after reading “Legends and Lattes”! “Bookshops and Bonedust” did not disappoint. I greatly enjoyed it while walking my pup 😊

Love this series! It‘s so cute and heartwarming. A great prequel, even if I knew exactly what was going to happen.

Before Legends & Lattes, Viv the orc is flighting with the Ravens against a fearsome necromancer and is injured in the battle. This is the story of her convalescence and maybe of a few fights along the way.

Worth a read if you like cosy fantasy with lgbtqia themes.

I stayed up quite late last night reading this 😅

I loved this, I actually preferred this to Legends & Lattes. Restoring a failing bookshop, creating a sense of community and fighting a necromancer are just more my thing.

This had way more plot. The book recommendations given to Viv matched what was going on in the story which I loved.

2✨I got about 60% through this and I was just bored. I do want to say I like how it is written, and calm it made me feel when they discussed the store and how to make it a better shop. As well as talking about books that was just really relaxing. There was some adventure too, but I DNFd to find something else I personally could engage more in. Again not a bad book just didn‘t catch my interest anymore.

You know the author has amazing descriptions....when they make you want to read the books being described IN THE BOOK!!!

Ahhh I loved this!!! Apparently cozy high fantasy is a balm for my soul that I didn‘t even know I needed 🤣. Viv is such a great character and I loved the banter she developed with all the new characters. There‘s also some action and adventure and of course…books!! It‘s even better that the author narrates the audiobook, and he does a fantastic job! Highly recommend! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

While this is a prequel to “Legends & Lattes“, it should be read second. Much to my surprise I have thoroughly enjoyed both of these cozy, lighter fantasy books complete with all sorts of fantastical creatures. I find the characters to be well developed and fun. The book is humorous, and leaves us mere mortals with life lessons. As a former bookseller I loved the bookshop setting. I look forward to more adventures with Viv and her friends. 4.5/5

The prequel to Legends & Lattes, this gave us a look into the shaping of Viv. She‘s forced to recover and slow down in a small town. The people she meets and her experiences lead her to where we find her in L&L.

Hi Litsy. I have horribly fallen out of posting this year, (not to mention actually finishing books 🙄), but I miss you guys, and am attempting to come back! I‘ve also just realised that tomorrow‘s a Bank Holiday, so I get a whole weekend (🎉🎉and probably 😴!)

So, Bookshops. It has taken me MONTHS to read this. I love the characters, I love the world, I love the setting (sleepy seaside town with a cafe and a bookshop that needs Serious Work 🤔.

I almost hate to do it, but I‘m bailing on my #bookspin for this month. I loved Legends & Lattes, but I am not enjoying this prequel at all. I don‘t know if it‘s the pacing or something else, but it doesn‘t seem to have the same heart as the first book. It‘s not that I‘m bored so much as I just don‘t care about the characters. Even Viv feels less Viv-like.

This is prequel to Legends & Lattes and it was just as wonderful. It has action, mystery, cozy vibes and good humor. Of course I loved the bookshop within and all that brought to it as well. This was such a well done story. Even though it comes before the 1st book I recommend reading them in the published order to get the full effect of the ending. (Which ties into L&L.) I look forward to any other books this author may put out.

we finally get the origin story!

Ok, I‘m going to have the #unpopular opinion here, but I thought this story was way too slow. I liked the characters, the beachy small town setting, even the premise. But it was just a little *too* cozy for me, and I liked the first book much better.

What an entertaining, lively, cozy, sweet, fun read! I had not heard of “cozy fantasy” before listening to the Reading Glasses podcast, where host Mallory has talked about her love of the book Legends & Lattes often. This is the prequel and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I loved the quirky characters and even got choked up a little at the end. I‘m listening to Legends & Lattes next, but suggest starting with that one as it was pub‘d first. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I wasn‘t sure I was in the right mood for BOOKSHOPS & BONEDUST, but it quickly won me over with its community feel and love for the power of story. I‘m now a hundred pages deep.

It also cried out for a good beer, so I paired it with an Absent Landlord Kolsch Ale from Cowbell Brewing Co out of Blyth, ON. I had one a couple weeks back and liked it so much I bought another can right away. It was a great fit with this delightful read.

This is a very enjoyable read, with actual character development and a plot that makes sense.
Viv is stuck in a small town recovering and learns to love reading through the efforts of the local bookstore owner. Romance (no spice), magic, books and a love for pastry all make Viv‘s life more complicated while she learns to be where she is and not mourn a life she doesn‘t want yet.
5/5 stars excellent. Read for a fantasy that focuses on emotions
