Someone doesn‘t want me to start this one.
Someone doesn‘t want me to start this one.
Mikey and I are both up past our bedtime. Shhhh!
Mikey says “Stop trying to drop hints, Mom. I already AM a good creature.”
Holy crow, I had no idea that this book I picked up at a library book sale was actually a signed copy.
Up next on deck, book 4 of the year. Mikey-Cat wouldn‘t be sleeping so peacefully if he knew what was beside him!
“Really, Mom - don‘t you have enough stacks of unread books on your bookcases?” Maybe, but they were missing THESE books.

“And what about the cat who saved you, Mom‽”
Went to an author event this evening, Kate Atkinson in Conversation. Thoroughly enjoyed it - what a smart, funny woman. And not only did she sign the new one for me, but she also signed the other two I brought. Mikey-Cat was really enjoying the soft-touch lamination on the dustjacket of the new one, but is wondering about the significance of the flamingo.
Late night reading with the Mikey-Cat.
Just finished this one, and was sorry it ended. I‘m going to have to do a quick reread once I‘m home, because there are so many great lines I want to add to my books of quotes. It did my heart good to read this. Mikey-Cat also does my heart good.
I know where my cat is - but need help with the unicorn...
Because I am that person you see in the bookstore, stroking the pages of books and crooning softly about paper quality, the BBE ordered this book for me, A Communicator‘s Guide to the Neuroscience Of Touch. Mikey-Cat has taken to lying on it. I guess he likes the feel of paper too.
I‘m calling it a pick since I enjoyed it more than the previous book in the series and it‘s better than “meh” but I think it‘s longer than it needs to be. I‘m glad to be done this brick of a book so that I can give Mikey-Cat more attention.
I first read this story in Asimov‘s Science Fiction November/December 2017, and it made me cry. It‘s stuck with me ever since, so I‘m delighted to have it as an actual book - especially in light of what happens in the story.
I wanted to really like this book - there are a couple of happy stories in it but overall, I found it depressing. So Mikey-Cat is here to cheer me up and give me kitty-kisses.
I LOL‘d several times over this book - it‘s great! Mikey-Cat also makes me LOL, but for totally different reasons.
I liked this one - maybe not her best, but I still found myself laughing out loud over the banter between Coop and Piper. Good fun (although not as fun as chasing a laser, says Mikey-Cat).
We‘re not having the greatest weather on this second day of cruising so I‘m staying warm in my room, looking out the balcony doors and reading.
Ending my first day of vacation in sunny climes (away from the snow and minus-insane temperatures) with some reading in bed.
Me and the Mikey-Cat!
Christmas present from my Mikey-Cat. I miss listening to Stuart McLean‘s Vinyl Cafe.
Much better than the previous couple of books in the series.
I want to start this one now, but someone has beaten me to it! #catsoflitsy #ilovetolieonmymomsbooks #toosmartforhisoengood
Funky cover!
OMG, it‘s in, it‘s in, and I have it! Yay!
(I think I‘m hyperventilating!)
I love Eddie, the Bookmobile cat. I also love that he says “Mrrr” like my own Mikey-Cat does.
“Every act of communication is a miracle of translation.”
I‘m at our aunt‘s cottage, and I intended to leave my phone in the cottage and just sit on the dock and read, but I just had to share this. I heard Levar Burton read one of Ken Liu‘s short stories so had to pick up this collection. I‘ve barely started - the preface is beautiful!
What an opening paragraph: "Floating upward through a confusion of dreams and memory, curving like a trout through the rings of previous risings, I surface. My eyes open. I am awake."
Didn't disappoint, hooray! If you like short stories with a bit of a twist, read this!
It's such a beautiful day to read outside - I just have to decide what to continue with next!
I actually won a book from the Goodreads giveaways! I've enjoyed Jeffrey Archer's other collections of short stories, and am hoping this one won't disappoint. And Mikey-Cat says hello! #catsoflitsy
Another quick read - very interesting and entertaining, but I felt something was missing. Still a pick though. On to my next cottage read, Smoke and Mirrors (I heard one of the stories on Levar Burton Reads and found it amusing - I highly recommend that podcast, if you like being read to.). My chip bowl is almost empty though; I might need a top-up. And maybe an adult beverage...
This just about broke my heart, and the writing is so good!
Sorry for the silence, fellow Littens; I haven't been feeling right for a while so at the urging of the BBE, finally went to see my doctor. It turns out I display many of the classic symptoms of depression, & have been put on medication for the time being. I'm glad the BBE intervened before things got worse but wish I'd clued in earlier. I still don't feel like doing much, even reading (😳) but hey, baby steps. Don't ever be afraid to seek help!
Day 31 #bestofmay It made me laugh, it made me cry.
Day 30 #satirical #maybookflowers Never thought I'd be taking a photo of these two books at the same time - Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey and George Orwell's Animal Farm.
Day 29 #inmemoriam #maybookflowwrs
A quick read, full of what should be common sense.
Finally! It seemed to take forever to get through this one, and I had a hard time keeping track of who was who (since it's been a while since I read the previous book in the series). It picked up in the last quarter, but I didn't find it as engaging as some of the earlier books were. Well, at least it was a lovely day to sit outside and read, but it's starting to cool off and my wine glass is empty.
Ok, not literary-related but because I was introverting too much yesterday, I took a walk in the early evening and not 5 minutes away from my house saw a heron, a bunny, a goose family, and this ginormous turtle - I have never seen one this big in real life before!
Day 27 #introverting #maybookflowers I've been in a huge reading slump lately, reading only my daily Serial portion. It's not that I don't have anything to read, I just haven't felt like reading (*gasp*) - or doing much else, really. I introverted big time yesterday and worked on updating my electronic devices and organizing my iTunes library while watching fluffy rom-coms (and eating sweet/salty popcorn).
