Bookcraft: Techniques for Binding, Folding, and Decorating to Create Books and More | Heather Weston
35 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
Binding, folding, and decorating techniques to create beautiful artists books and more From heirloom memories to unique journals, albums, and altered booksor simple tag books for your kidsBookcraft contains all the skills you will ever need. Books are a central part of life, and have been with us for around 2,000 years. Although most books we use are produced commercially, many of us are drawn to the book form in its various guises, and are interested in exploring how to make books of our own, whether as a vehicle for telling stories, as scrapbooks, or as notebooks and journals. This guide provides the essential ingredients for designing and making your own books, from simple binding and finishing techniques to complex complete products. Projects are designed to suit a variety of skill levels from beginner to advanced, and use a step-by-step approach to learning the necessary skills. Each project begins with basic techniques and progresses through to thought-provoking applications of those techniques. Each technique includes an example of a finished book that fully and beautifully utilizes the methods described by the techniques. This book explores more experimental binding and page treatment techniques, and has a comprehensive gallery of ideas outlining the skills and materials needed to apply techniques often reserved for professionals.

Thanks for the tag @IndoorDame #wonderouswednesday
1. It completely depends on the book for me. But sometimes I really appreciate a good epilogue.
2. I love pictures. I wish there were more. And I love maps. And I love interactive features.
3. I think my recliners- both indoor and my outdoor chairs that recline, or a comfy rocking chair.

Who else wants to play?

IndoorDame Outdoor recliner sounds like heaven 💗 2y

I have never dropped a book in the bath or, to the best of my recollection, left a smear of chocolate in one. I did occasionally, in the folly of youth, dog-ear pages, but would never dream of doing so now! Having grown up in a small town, our library lending limit was 4, so yeah, I hit it. I‘ve read Gone With the Wind, Animal Farm, A Tale of Two Cities and some Georgette Heyer books more than 5 times.

BeansPage Very nice 👍🏻 6y

Got to love this! Books all around - in a restaurant. I especially enjoy the ”Pili” one - it means little penis in Finnish 😂The food was fantastic, the service excellent... but nothing beats the sangria. 😍

#tuesdaytidbits @JenlovesJT47

1.) Aside from the obvious #harrypotter, the entire urban fantasy modern faerie tale series by Holly Black.

2.) Eragon - Christopher Paolini

3.) it's a toss up between Ashley Wilkes from Gone With The Wind and Margo from Paper Towns

4.) The Hunger Games. I liked it but I didn't think it was the end all be all of YA, as I was led to believe.

5.) @BiblioNyan

JenlovesJT47 Lol at number 3! 😂 Ashley is a bit insufferable to be sure. And Margo really pissed me off, especially at the end! (Selfish much?!) 7y
blithebuoyant @JenlovesJT47 he's such a whiny little turd burglar. And Margo is whacked. 7y

#Librarianpost Had a WONDERFUL time at the Book Repair workshop with the WISD librarians this evening! So glad I now got to meet all the men& women who work in our schools! PLUS I won the drawing for a $170 value box (bottom right picture) of Book Repair materials&tools for Clift Library!🎉🙌🏻 I could tell I was among Kindred Spirits- when the instructor showed us how to fix the horribly torn binding of a HB, we all clapped at the beauty of it!😂

tpixie Awesomeness!! 7y
Emily92Bibliophile Yes @tpixie it was the epitome of “awesomeness “- I have never been around so many librarians who squealed with delight ( all in unplanned unison ) as the instructor made a clean save out of a book that looked destined for the trash 🤗🎉🙌🏻 7y

#TheBookCam #SpotAReader how often do you talk to commuter who is reading? I do it all the time :)

Jinjer Never because I hate it when someone interrupts my reading. #antisocial #leavemealone (edited) 7y
minkyb My daughter is constantly having book conversations on the subway. 7y
That-Bookish-Hiker I'm with @Jinjer lol. They can ask me what the book is about but generally I don't like to be interrupted. 7y

Okay, #littens, need more recommendations for #bookish apps. Here is what I currently have. Help!

scripturient LitNav and The Love Book - the last one is a poetry app and has readings by Tom Hiddleston, etc. 😍 8y
ramyasbookshelf I'm going to follow this chain.. I pretty much have the same ones you have.. 8y
See All 16 Comments
Laney1733 I will follow this as well. I'm looking for an app that I can have a TBR shelf and a READ shelf that will display the actual front cover of the book on a little shelf graphic. If you can picture that! With no social network/media aspect to it. Any suggestions? 8y
saresmoore Bookout is fun for tracking reading time. It helps keep me focused and off of Litsy during reading sessions. 😬 8y
ReadingEnvy Does your public library have Hoopla? There is an app for it if so. 8y
scripturient @Leo1733 Don't know if this meets all your criteria but maybe the 'To read' app would work. 8y
rachelm @ReadingEnvy @rubyslippersreads my library doesn't use it 😭😭😭 8y
rachelm @scripturient amazing!!! 8y
rachelm @saresmoore I need that. Sold. 8y
Kmmsellers I'm following for recs, too. But I do second that Bookout is a good one. 8y
k.reads I haven't actually tried it yet, but Kobo is an ebook purchasing app that gives a portion of sales to the local bookstore of your choice. 8y
k.reads Also LibriVox has free public domain audiobooks read by volunteers. 8y
rachelm @k.reads oo! Those both sound awesome!! 8y
