This first chapter of a new trilogy to bridge the original trilogy and the sequels is okay. A new band of heroes join together to disrupt a gathering of rogue Imperials who are attempting to keep the Empire from fading away. There was a lot of character work, so much that I kept having to remind myself exactly what the plot was. Not overly memorable, but good enough to continue the series.

RamsFan1963 I liked the 2nd book, Life Debt, more than the first, mainly because of Han Solo and Chewbacca 7mo

🎧 This takes place after Return of the Jedi. The Empire is in disarray without leadership. Everyone‘s scrambling to get organized. New characters to me.

I don‘t think I was the target audience for this book. It felt on the young side of YA. A main plot point involves a young teen boy & his Rebel pilot mom, typical teen/parent relationship arguing.

It was fun. The narrator was youthful. There was music & sound effects.

Quick listen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Twainy PS - I loved Mr Bones!! I did recognize several names but they aren‘t major plot points really, mostly new characters to me. Good epilogue. 4y

Had some great reading hours this week and weekend! I didn‘t get to 24 but to 22 hours for #24b4Monday today I had a lot of distractions. For my own #wintersolstice #readathon I got 61 hours in. So many books finished and I‘m in the middle of two more. I have on a Christmas movie and then off to bed.

I actually enjoyed this even more the 2nd time around. The 1st time, those little interludes, set throughout the galaxy, felt like they disrupted the flow, this time they felt so very necessary, seeing the fallout after the original films and all the turmoil the long war left behind for everyone on every world to deal with as best they could. I still enjoyed our rag tag crew & the second half with them working together was still the best half.⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Plus after seeing the final film, I picked up on the tidbits about the Emperor setting up labs and working out in the outer rim...which I‘m sure meant nothing the first time I read this and now seem so obvious! 😂 (edited) 4y

Sometimes these book seem entirely too current & topical for a science fiction set a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away.

Re-reading this now, this opening seems a lot more topical....

“(...) The confusion in the boy‘s shining eyes is clear: He doesn‘t understand what‘s happening. But Rorak does. He‘s heard tales of the Clone Wars—tales spoken by his own father. He knows how war goes. It‘s not many wars, but just one, drawn out again and again, cut up into slices so it seems more manageable....”⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...”For a long time he‘s told his son not the truth but the idealized hope: One day the Empire will fall and things will be different for when you have children. And that may still come to pass. But now a stronger, sharper truth is required: “Jak—the battle isn‘t over. The battle is just starting.”” 4y

#StarWarsBuddyRead. How are you all doing with Aftermath? I quite liked this trilogy when I first read it, more as it went along, and now that I know more, more about Snap, more of the Emperor‘s final plans, I‘m finding myself looking forward to re-reading the rest of this trilogy again. So as long as we are in it, we might as well read the whole trilogy. So just in case you were planning ahead, plans on book 2 & 3 for Sept. & Oct.

This book takes place directly after The Return of the Jedi. It begins with Wedge Antilles stumbling upon a secret meeting of the last of the Empire. Then we follow Nora Wexely (former rebel pilot), her son Temmin (later known in the Resistance as Snap), Sinjir (ex-Imperial loyalist officer) & Jas Emari (bounty hunter) through Akira. I loved it 🖤

A nice read, typical Star Wars material 😁 Sadly, there are just to many characters that pop up and disappear again. The whole thing is a bit confusing.

Just finished Aftermath and absolutely loved it! Not only is this novel well written, but it has a great blend of classic and newer characters in the Star Wars universe! The pacing and payoffs were strong, as well. I think the major selling point for me was the integration of new, like-able characters like Jas and Sinjer. Lastly, Aftermath seamlessly sets the stage for an even better story and complex antagonist. Great read! Now on to Life Debt!

I can say that this writing style is not going to be for everyone. It didn‘t bother me, though, and I ended up really liking this. Sure, there were a lot of small characters and death fame-outs, but I am definitively in the “This is good” category. Looking forward to the next two.

Got some of the last of my #JulysHugeBookSplurge today. There‘s s few more stragglers & preorders coming, but this is the last of the big boxes. I think🤔 #BookMail Pt1 is the first book in a trilogy set directly after Return Of The Jedi. I‘ve heard great things about this series, it‘s at the top of most recommended Star Wars novels. I‘m trying to read them in order but the bound trilogies of the movie books are really hard to find! #alongtimeago

This is such an interesting time period but there are way too many characters and way too much going on. It‘s such a mess tbh but I‘ve heard that the rest of the series is better AND like I said this time period is really cool so we‘ll see what happens

My new #commutereading. It the first in a trilogy that tells the story immediately after The Return of the Jedi. The war for freedom isn't over. The writing leaves quite a bit to be desired but the plot is good and, once it gets into the story, quite engaging. I'm approximately 9 hours in, with another 3 left. The other books are also 12-15 hours long each.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had at least heard of Chuck Wendig when I picked this up, and I was glad the force was with me. I always worry about picking up Star Wars novelization (or any other geeky-series companion book) since they have a reputation of being a gross hot mess, but Wendig wove a good post-war tale with compassion, humanity, and wit. 🚀 #inagalaxyfarfaraway #rebelscum #spaceopera

The most cussed and discussed book of the new Star Wars cannon, Aftermath is actually nowhere near as bad as many have made it out to be. It wasn't a favorite, but I don't feel like I wasted my time either, and I *do* plan to read Chuck Wendig's follow-up novel LIFE DEBT.

Internal debate: wake up early so I can do my hair in Princess Leia buns for Star Wars day, or sleep in and let whatever happens to my hair happen and pretend I was intentionally going for a Chewbacca look? Decisions, decisions. Spoiler alert: I woke up and did the Leia look. Gotta represent at work at the library for #Starwars day. #inagalaxyfarfaraway #maybookflowers

An Open Blurb to All Authors of Star Wars Novels of the Past, Present, and Future: The novel you are writing takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. It says so on the first page. It is not appropriate for you to reference creatures from Earth's mythology. It just reminds everyone of Ani comparing Padme to an angel, and nobody wants that. #marchintoreading #bookishpetpeeve

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Also unacceptable: barely changing common idioms to make them more "spacey". A grothrok in the hand is worth two in the flarflab tree. = Not okay. 8y
