Sell the cemetery? Over their dead bodies . . . Not many people can see the dead (not many would want to). Twelve-year-old Johnny Maxwell can. And he's got bad news for them: the council want to sell the cemetery as a building site. But the dead have learnt a thing or two from Johnny. They're not going to take it lying down . . . especially since it's Halloween tomorrow. Besides, they're beginning to find that life is a lot more fun than it was when they were . . . well . . . alive. Particularly if they break a few rules . . . Deifio @julesG don't know if you saw this but @ljuliel asked if everyone could put up their readalongs under one hashtag to better find them. I think it was #readalong2020 4y
ljuliel Thanks @Deifio 😊. . I went ahead and added it to the list, but didn‘t add all the hashtags that are listed with this. I put the beginning ones and tagged both leaders in here. If anyone doesn‘t want theirs on that list, I‘ll gladly delete them. I think maybe they‘ll all get more participation if they‘re advertised in one spot . I‘ve seen lots of posts asking what readalongs are currently going on. 4y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I may be the only one who read this one this month, I know his non- Discworld novels are not as popular. But nevertheless, I still enjoyed it for the cleverly crafted silly YA (maybe even middle grade) story it was at its core....with some great wordplay and social commentary woven throughout for those old enough to catch and enjoy. 😉 4y

gossamerchild I'm still working my way through it. Tbh these aren't my favorites, so I'm finding it difficult to stay on track 🙄 4y
Iblu I agree we are spoiled with the Discworld universe of characters, yet this series has its moments. I‘m always struck by the references to J personal life thrown here and there and by the way they are described. Probably the YA could relate to that....would love to get my daughter to read the Johnny series at some point to see her reaction 4y
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I have read it, too! Albeit a bit late... reading slump here. I liked it a lot better than the first Johnny book. It seemed more Pratchett overall - more humor, more fantasy with the dead, and I enjoyed the silly dialogues of the kids. No Discworld for sure, but fun. 4y

Still enjoying my read through Pratchett‘s worlds, even these YA independent books (outside of Discworld) are such cleverly crafted silly stories with a touch of great wordplay, some social commentary, and deeper meaning if you‘re paying attention.

vivastory I really do feel like world news has been pushed aside a little since Trump took office. He consumes the news cycle. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @vivastory I agree, and sadly he‘s got so much going on, a story from yesterday disappears in the news coverage after 24 hrs because of something new...even when they are both about him. I miss having a fairly quiet functioning President who could go 24 hrs without stepping in/on something.🤪 4y
