Story of 12-year-old Cedar‘s first summer after her father and brother were killed A myriad of emotions permeate the novel: a deep connection between a girl and a boy, an interest in the life and early death of an admired actress, and the struggle to find footing after learning that nothing is ever certain. Genuine characters, unique setting and tender treatment of tough issues result in a sweet, hopeful, even wistful story. Book 28 #MGMarch

1. Going back to work (teacher) have two days left of COVID exposure quarantine, so starting virtually (at least I‘ll have time for some audiobooks!)
2. Going on a walk with the family and feeding carrots to some local horses! My daughter is obsessed! 😁
Cedar arrives for the summer in Iron Creek missing the recent loss of her brother and father. While there, she meets a boy named Leo working for Summerlost where they discovered clues to one of the famous actors from the play.
It's a cute, middle school read.
Also really important reason to love fall. It. Is. Not. Summer!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I thought this middle grade story of loss and friendship was pitch-perfect. Cedar and her family are spending the summer in Iron Creek after a devastating loss. Cedar‘s friendship with Leo, her relationships with her mom and brother, and her summer adventures were lovely to experience on the page.

Thought this photo will sum up how desperate I am for #summer! My gift is ready to go for the #funinthesunsummerbookswap ... since we still have snow in the ground and it‘s almost May!! Wtf... so this exchange is a sign that summer seriously must be coming!!!!
Managed to be a very cute story while dealing with a tough subject. I loved the MCs obsession with that soap opera.
It's nice to read a YA that doesn't focus on romance, just friendship through hard times. This quick read was the perfect book to end my summer break. It's about life after loss and the friendships and family relationships that help one young girl get through it. All set in the midst of a summer Shakespearean festival. I loved it! #summerreading2017
Okay, everyone else can pack up and go home, because my #SummerSolsticeExchange partner is the best. Two books I don't already own and haven't read, a journal/coloring book, bookish earrings (with legitimate pages!), and the grand finale...a key to the Overlook Hotel! @heatherkaz you spoil me so! #SummerSantaGoesPostal

"Last summer we had a dad and a brother and then they were gone. We did not see it coming. Summer would be the same and never the same."
This book was a short a sweet description of a summer, a friendship, and how loss can effect kids.
This was a cute middle grade read. My expectations were low because I wasn't a fan of matched but I enjoyed it. It's a really quick easy read. I also really liked the lack of romance amongst middle schoolers 😂 i loved the complexity of the grief and even the brother with (what I'm assuming is) autism.
For my #recommendsday pick, a sweet, nostalgic coming of age story (MG) about friendship and summer and theatre.
Perfect for right now, since summer is almost lost for those of us in the Midwest headed back to school in two weeks.
My summer reading has a tendency toward books with "summer" in the title. This one does not disappoint.
Loved this book. Cedar is spending the summer working at a Shakespeare Revival Festival and making a good friend, Leo. She is also trying to get over the deaths of her father and brother. This book is full of hope and heartbreak and will leave you thinking about Cedar for a long time.
Excited to get into this middle grade novel. I've read Condie's YA trilogy, but Summerlost is more up my alley.
