This is one of the books we‘re considering for next year‘s Common Read. It‘s about the ripples and effects of a sexual assault on a college campus community. The story is not told through the victim‘s eyes but through those of her roommate and a male acquaintance of the accused. I didn‘t care for the ending, but, to be honest, it‘s probably the best conclusion a sexual assault victim could expect of a university, so it‘s realistic.

This book was extremely powerful with varying point of views on a tough topic. It really shows the complications and trials of sexual assault cases and the perspectives of a man versus a woman and a victim versus the accused person. This is an important book about consent and the fine line between drunk sex and date rape. #goodreadsgiveaways

I‘m sure these aren‘t the #mostwreckedbooks in the world, but they are the most wrecked on my shelves. Pages are falling out of The Portrait of a Lady, the dustjacket on The Goldfinch is my bf‘s doing, the water damaged Outlander book is from my trip to Gili Air last year where it had a run in with a wave. And last, but certainly not least, I have committed the crime of dog earring pages 😱😱😱

Kalalalatja @julesG I know I‘m all about the #NoShame, but I do feel a bit ashamed to have done that to my poor, lovely books 😅 6y
needleminding I apparently used to dog ear pages and blocked it out of my mind because I found some of my old books recently and they had some pages like that. 😵😆 I'll admit that I kind of like it when a paperback has slight water damage related to a vacation or being read several times while bathing. Positive associations. 😁 6y

Well written but unsatisfying. I did enjoy a beautiful lunch outside while finishing this one ip. #boutofbooks

LauraBeth Bottled coke! 😋 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @LauraBeth Some people call it Mexican Coke. I'm not sure if it's bc it's made in Mexico. Yes, the only way to drink Coca Cola is from a bottle!! It's been about 3 years for me!! (edited) 7y
Dogearedcopy I am *addicted* to MexiCokes! It's to the point that I can't stand the "regular"/US Cokes! ?(And yes, they are called Mexican Cokes or MexiCokes because they are "Hecht in Mexico" - Real sugar, No HFCS, and less carbonation (sp?) ? 7y

LauraBeth @JanuarieTimewalker13 and @Dogearedcopy I gave up soda about six years ago but think I need to take it back up again just to try some MexiCoke bc I need to know what it tastes like! 😀 7y
ReadingSusan @JanuarieTimewalker13 @LauraBeth yes! It's delicious. It's made with real sugar so tastes much better than regular coke. I usually only drink Coke during readathons as caffeine is not my friend lol. 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Dogearedcopy @LauraBeth @ReadingSusan yeah, I won't touch anything with HFCS...I know this sounds cray cray, but I've been known to bring my own bottle of organic ketchup to restos. Lol 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I wish they made organic ketchup in small condiment packages (edited) 7y
ReadingSusan @JanuarieTimewalker13 my mom brings her own bottled water to restaurants. 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Why? She only likes one specific water, or she doesn't like that it may be unfiltered? 7y
ReadingSusan @JanuarieTimewalker13 she wants to know where it came from. 7y

A fascinating book about consent. I think she did a good job giving voice to understanding and different sides and thoughts of a very difficult topic.

Book one finished in the #deweysreadathon #readathon and it is a must read for our times. Insight into the rape culture that has permeated college campuses. Highlights the dangers of drinking, what consent is and isn't, as well as the investigative process that often victimizes the victim all over again. We have to do better as a nation to stop this continued violence against women.

Time for a healthy mid morning snack to finish this book with #deweysreadathon #deweys #readathon

Bkwurm Love the healthy snack! Sugar is so tempting (I say as I eat horribly sugary coffee cake) but the healthy stuff will keep you going longer. I'm going for apples and peanut butter later. 😋 8y

Rape culture is such a heavy topic but one that couldn‘t be more timely and relevant, especially when it happens on a college campus. It‘s running rampant and I googled some statistics that were shocking and horrifying. What happened to Jenny is happening to young women all across the country and it is not ok. The importance of consent is prevalent in this book and for that reason alone I will be encouraging everyone to read this.

This was a hard book to read, but a good book overall. I'd classify it as "New Adult" as it was printed under the Young Readers imprint, even though it is set at a college. A freshman accuses another student of rape, and it follows different perspectives and voices throughout the ordeal. Reputations, futures, and relationships all come into play, as do so many emotions that you as a reader will feel while reading.

Alfoster Oooo, sounds good! 8y

Starting this story about a sexual assault set during a girl's freshman year of college. So in my Venn diagram of intense realism and girls' stories. Out in October.
