Everything about this seems #Terrifying lol. Definitely matches the #HauntsandHexes prompt. And of course, now I want to read it. 😄 Also #HauntedShelf cover #ScavengerHunt for Unputdownable because the title gives me that vibe. #BlackCatCrew

This book is next level amazing. It's like an adult version of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I'm glad someone put these together and translated them into English.

I meant to save some of this and include it in my November list but I couldn't stop reading.
Yep, these “fairy tales“ are scary. In two ways: once there's the supernatural side. But there's also reality. The reality of living in the Soviet Union. Petrushevskayas characters are all suffering from cold, hunger and desillusions. Death often seems like relief. A relief not granted. No wonder the author wasn't allowed to publish for a long time...

The ones with the hearts are the official books, with Rome being number 3 and the other one being number 15.
And now - let's play! 😁
Must read her other books! My favorites of these short stories were the fairytales. They‘re not Disney-like topics with princesses, but eerie like the original Grimm‘s fairytales. Think a sparse, dark Katherine Arden. Thanks for sending this @TheWordJar 🖤🖤🖤🖤
So I sat down intending to read just a few short stories and am now 1/3 into the book.

When I saw we were taking a trip to #Russia today I had to post about Ludmilla Petrushevskaya. If you are looking for dark, twisted stories, check her out. I‘ve read the tagged book and really enjoyed its fairy-tale-esque feel. Her other books have been on my TBR forever, but I would especially like to read her memoir.

Thanks so much @slightlyfoxed for the wonderful #shortstoryswap box! I‘m really excited to read these collections 🤓 They look strange and weird which is exactly what I like! What a great swap!!! Thanks @CSeydel for hosting 😄

I love Russian and Eastern European folktales and this is a modern version. I loved these short stories, the last part of the book was the strongest and when I couldn't put this down. If you've read the old folk stories you will recognise the bones of them in these but with a slightly more modern soviet era twist. The translation is wonderful sentences kept catching me and making me smile. #readingwomenchallenge #womenintranslation
Picked this up because it sounded creepy but meh. Maybe only one or two out of all of them were creepy to me.
What a weird, awesome, dark and twisted collection of modern fairy tales! Stories about a father, who finds his child in an abandoned house, an apocalypse, the places we go to when we die and so mich more. I did try to read one story a day, but I think they work better if you read it in little chunks at a time. I will definitely pick up more of Petrushevskaya's works 👍
#RussianLit2017
My kind of not-so-#freakyFriday - only cakes and #RussianLit2017 for me. I have had a really busy week, and in #timeslikethese I like to treat myself a little extra (who am I kidding, I treat myself all the time!). But this Friday, this mean two cakes, two books and two hours of reading time. I'm switching between audio and print for C&P, so I'm getting through it pretty quickly 👍
#Rocktober #SpookyOctober
Starting my #RussianLit2017 with these two. The tagged book will be my new fairytale-a-day book, and from the first tale I have read, it is going to be a dark ride!
Baba Yaga's Assistant looks fun and light, and that's what I need on this Monday night 👍
If you feel like joining in with some Russian lit of your own during October, feel free to use the hashtag, and tag me in your post 👏
A stack of white books for @Cinfhen and the #bookcolortag 📚 I was a bit surprised by how many white books I could find on my shelves. These were the ones that could fit into the picture 😄
I have slept really badly and the weather is grey today, so I need something to cheer me up - a YELLOW stack of books. @4thhouseontheleft @Aninski @ferskner you up for it?
This is an excellent collection of short stories that also happens to go with today's #backintheussr theme. Highly recommended.
Luckily I had steak last night and I remembered to take this picture #vampchallenge #bookandsteak 💃🏻
Some of my #freshpicks by which I mean newest books 📚 😄

These books #setineasterneurope have the best titles I have ever seen! They are all on my #tbr and I really need to buy them soon 📚

Like a Russian version of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, this book is a collection of folk tales with a frightening bent. #longtitle #booktober
