Beatriz Williams was my choice this month for the #BacklistReadathon
I wanted more of the 1998 story and less of the prohibition story on this one, but it was still enjoyable. I‘ll probably read the sequel at some point.

I wouldn't mind living in a building haunted by jazz playing ghosts 👻🎷🎹

Finished this up on audio today. I enjoyed this historical fiction set in Prohibition NYC. The little bit of magical realism in the present day storyline seemed unnecessary. Looking forward to the sequel but not sure it will be anytime soon. So many books, so little time!
For some reason I thought this was going to be set in 1920s Chicago which would have been just fine with me. I‘m delighted to find its set in 1920s NYC and I‘m flying through it so far. I love when a book sucks me in from the get go.
First book I‘ve read by Beatriz Williams, definitely won‘t be my last! This was the perfect book to get me out of my reading slump ❤️
Found these at the thrift store for $1.00! I‘ve read The Wicked City and need to read the next one in the series!

Did a little #audiocleaning and started to tackle one of my bookshelves this afternoon. 😵💫 I can officially say I think I have too many books. Sad, I know...but making progress!!
Finally got all my #botm books on an actual shelf all together AND found out I have a signed copy of The Wicked City from Beatriz Williams!
Clean up and you will be rewarded!! 🧹✨
*Side note* I own almost all of Williams books but never read her! Changing that soon!!
The Audio version is fantastic. I will say that there is a trigger warning for sexual assault so be aware of that going in. I did want to find out more about Gingers father and Ella's case assignment. I am hoping the second book touches on some of those points more and connects both these women further.
I love anything set in the roaring twenties, and this did not disappoint. There are dual storylines, one in 1924 and one in 1998. I confess I don‘t see much point to the 1998 storyline yet but hopefully I will found out in the sequel. Overall, this was a little disjointed but I still found it enjoyable and would recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction and is a fan of the jazz age. 4⭐️

I loved the details of the book but the ending wasn‘t very strong and left a few things unanswered.
I really enjoyed this book that partly takes place in the Prohibition Era. I honestly have loved every book I have read by Beatriz Williams. I think Gin is one of my favorite characters in her books. She is strong and determined, and I just loved her wit. Can't wait for the next book in this series to come out.
Some afternoons require quiet reading time outside. Grateful for today's beautiful weather and I'm loving this book!
Enjoying a treat indoors on this awful humid and hot day. Happy Wednesday! 💜
The present day story started strong but ended up falling flat and feeling disjointed 😕 However, it doesn't distract from the overall flow of a good story.
This was my first Beatriz Williams book and after doing a little digging on Litsy, I see that my opinion is in the minority. This was one instance where I didn‘t like a dual timeline and there were too many unresolved story details to make this a fully enjoyable read. #LitsyAtoZ (1/26)
Thank you @Jen_is_always_reading! I adore her books and I have not read this one yet! After a rough day this was a great pick me up! #justabookswap @TheBookKeepers
All right, folks. I‘m leaving for a lovely lake house vacation on Friday, and I can‘t decide which books to take along. I‘ve narrowed the field to these 10 and my Kindle. I‘d like to get this stack down to 3. Anybody care to cast a vote and help me choose? 😃

Thinking about reading Beatriz Williams soon! Never read her before. What should I start with? #beatrizwilliams
This is my third attempt to get through this one BUT Clair has great taste in movies. One of my all time top 5.
The Wicked City started a bit slow. But as I've come to expect fun, sass, and a good story from Beatriz Williams, I stuck with it. And she did not disappoint. This is the story of 2 generations of women in a Greenwich village apartment - a flapper with a hidden past and a modern day woman starting life anew.
"Life‘s a gas. Stop and breathe it in."
I have a serious wheelhouse of historical fiction. This one was 1920‘s New York prohibition era. Undercover agents trying to flush out a gin smuggling ring. Square so much fun! One big drawback there was a component of modern era which sort of fit in to round out the story but to me I don‘t think it was needed. I felt that it almost pulled me out of the story.
Had our book club meeting last night, topped off with a gin tasting, for The Wicked City by Beatriz Williams. A slightly slow start turned into a page turner that had us, as usual with Williams's novels, bouncing between 2 decades...the prohibition era 20's and the 90's, each highlighting a strong-ish female lead character attempting to find her feet.

I think of the jazz era for this prompt! Flappers, a young generation of women in the 1920‘s who wore short skirts, bobbed hair, listened to jazz and flaunted their distain for what was then considered acceptable behavior. They wore makeup, drove cars, drank alcohol and had casual sex! Wow, they just sound horrible 🙄🙄 I love reading about this era! We meet Gin Kelly, a flapper from the hills of Maryland! Just love her!
@annahenke thank you so much for everything!! I love Julie Klassen! Well I love all three of the authors, actually! The bookmarks are great! That‘s so cool that you helped design them. And my husband will be happy about the booklight! He hates when he is trying to sleep and I‘m reading. I have been so sick for almost a week now so this was so nice to open. Thank you again 😊🙏

Which literary hunk do you want to be your Valentine? I am definitely enticed by the hero of the first book in a new series by Beatriz Williams. THE WICKED CITY‘s handsome good guy is a Prohibition agent with secrets of his own—meet Oliver Anson. 💕❤️💕
Good morning from Hawaii. 🌴🌴 I‘m reading this one while listening to the waves crash and waiting for the sun to come up.
This was my second book by Ms. Williams and I liked it very much.
This is a story of two women who share an apartment in New York, but they do it in two different times; Ella moves into the space in the modern age after leaving her husband. Geneva lived there during Prohibition.

1924 Gin Kelly is definitely #sassy!! She‘s a saucy flapper from the hills of Maryland and a regular at the Christopher Club. She gets caught up in a raid and is persuaded to help catch her bootlegging step dad, Duke Kelly!
Ella moves into a quaint building and continues to hear jazz music at night... She unravels the history of the building and her connection to Gin 💗
Pics of my sassy girls!! ☺️☺️
